I would L.O.V.E. love that!
And regarding the name Anna, I named the game and character after a girl that I had a huge crush on in high school, so I have to agree that Annas are generally superior to the rest of the species.
edit: you can send it to my email at vincexii monkey yahoo banana com except with an '@' instead of a "monkey" and a '.' instead of the "banana."

The sequel to the amusing Poke646 mod for Half-Life, titled Poke646: Vendetta, was released over a week ago.
It's an impressive job, barely feeling all that old, with very solid level design and an entertaining, tongue-in-cheek plot. Highly recommended. _________________ "This is the most fun I've ever had without being drenched in the blood of my enemies!" |

I don't think this has been linked here yet: Biots
I was looking up a Rama reference and found it.
I found the descriptions to be more interesting than the actual "game".
Others may get more mileage. _________________ I felt sheer anarchic joy when I ran over my first pedestrian. |

rider is pretty nifty. it's a motorcycle sim where you try to get your package to its destination on time without breaking any traffic laws (when cops are watching). reminds me of tokyo bus guide, but better since it involves motorcycles (and you don't have to observe crazy bus codes). it's a pretty nice chillout game. videogame sunsets! _________________

I haven't played it myself yet, but Luigi vs. Mario (Mario Adventure 2) was released recently (well the abondoned project was released).
Shaper, if you didn't ever get the soundtrack to Gamma Bros., let me know. The soundtrack is by Mark DeNardo and I was actually going to get a bunch of his mp3s from him and I could probably get the Gamma Bros. soundtrack as well. |

i'm wary of that hack since most of the author's previous releases show no understanding of level design, that the author seems to think that hard = good so unplayable must = great.
actually i could say that about most rom hacks.
also the screenshots lead me to believe the author spent six months adding dithering to every sprite in the game. _________________

You know... I think he did send them to me. The guy up and emailed me about it one day and I don't even know how he found out I wanted them. It was durring an exceptionally busy time in my life and I just can't say if he actually sent them or not. I would appreciate you getting them if you could. Those, I have. They are not exactly what's in the game, but still good. Dig the vocal song, it's cute. _________________

6 Days a Sacrifice is now out. It won't make sense unless you've played the other three games in the series (5 Days a Stranger, 7 Days a Skeptic, Trilby's Notes).
It juggles with a lot of ideas, too many ideas even. Some are excellent (The fifth day being perhaps the best part), some are mediocre, some are just poor. A lot of the developments feel forced, and it's mostly a narrative experience, rather than an adventure. It's not even that scary, serving just as exhibition for completists. Not as good as Trilby's Notes, but check it out if you want to see what happens to some of the key characters in the previous games, and a further look into the mythos Yahtzee tries to create. It certainly doesn't feel conclusive, and I do expect another game to be announced eventually.
Do give the three IF pieces he wrote beforehand. I suggest opening them with Windows Frotz, rather than the suggested interpreter. _________________ "This is the most fun I've ever had without being drenched in the blood of my enemies!" |

The vocal song is basically what's in the game but with lyrics added. So, you know, that song without the lyrics. I think there might be one or two other in-game songs, I don't remember too well. _________________

Cactus has updated this game with a few changes:
-You can go back and forth in the menu now
-You can go back and choose a different pilot between completing missions without them being reset
-Quitting can only be done on the title screen
-Pressing enter after losing a ship will make you respawn faster
-Pressing enter while the credits roll will make them fade out
-Player Two spawns with 200 debris to make dying slightly less frustrating.
Bugs fixed:
-No immobile enemy bullets that stay behind and cause trouble
-Pilot Two's energy release had a small bug
-The drawing of Pilot Two's debris display also had a small bug _________________ "This is the most fun I've ever had without being drenched in the blood of my enemies!" |

Wow, so much I could mention! I searched all this stuff out primarily through being broke, and was suprised by the quality of the freeware games on the internets.
As has already been mentioned, download every Kenta Cho game.
Dokutsu Monogatari/Cave Story will blow you away. Probably the best freeware game ever in fact.
There's lots of demos for Touhou games on the web that are worth checking out.
Warning Forever would be flawless if it wasn't for it's incredably erratic scoring system.
Cho Ren DA 20K is simple but stupidly fun.
Shooters Solitude and RAY HOUND look absolutely amazing, but I can't get either of them to work, oh woe. _________________ Black has built a silly dice maze |

duck dash is a remake of an amiga game. you move a duck around a grid of tiles, collecting eggs and bonuses while avoiding enemies. tiles you step on crack and become impassable, but to counteract this you have the ability to shift the row or column you're standing on. it moves pretty quickly and there's a good deal of strategy open to you. _________________

on of eyezmaze, the creator of the grow series, was commissioned to create a little flash game for the publishers of lineage II (whatever that is). it is fantastic. it's a puzzle dungeon of the zelda sort. there is next to no text. to solve many of the screens requires an intuitive leap, but the solution never violates the game's internal logic. the puzzles are satisfying to solve. my total play time (to the "true" ending) was one hour and twenty-eight minutes. _________________

there are two items that appear in the starting room (if you count above and below). to get either of them you need to use your click tools.
as for the last moon, it's definitely the most difficult puzzle in the game, but finding the solution was so pleasing that i'm wary of giving hints. if you really want one, here it is: the solution lies in another room. _________________

kenta cho has a demo up of a shooter based on conway's game of life. the edges of the screen generate green cells, which obey the laws of conway's life while firing at you. your ship spawns brown gliders, which interact with the green cells, turning them brown. when you release the fire key, all brown cells on the screen disappear. interesting! _________________

understanding games (currently three episodes of which are online) is a good idea - a game that teaches you the principles of games. i don't think it's done very well, though - it feels more like a lecture on games intercut with brief playable portions, and i would argue that the whole thing does not itself constitute a game. i think i'd like to see something more like eric loyer's chroma, where the game evolves around you, as you play, to demonstrate the principles which are being taught.
it also reminds me of this flash game that attempts to tell the history of videogames by gradually introducing new elements to the same simple game. i can't remember what it's called or where to find it, though. _________________

i played a slightly older version of that, and i was impressed by how well kenta cho managed to balance the game (even at that stage), considering how wacky the premise is.
digital eel made a shooter that uses conway's life rules too, but it's really a bit too hard to predict and react to. and it's not free, so it's beyond the purview of this thread. _________________
