There are so many covers of that song, but the only female one that springs to mind would be by Jarboe when she sung with Michael Gira under Swans. _________________ "This is the most fun I've ever had without being drenched in the blood of my enemies!" |

All slow and fragile?
Probably Susanna and the Magical Orchestra, off Melody Mountain.
Now how the hell did your Chinese restaurant pick up on indie Norwegian music?
Edit: And I posted another cover of theirs on the first page. Sound similar? |

Those aerospace engineers are all alike!
When they played with Enon, did they, you know, play with Enon? All at once, like they do with every other band they tour with? Because that concept alone is what I'm most in awe of. |
Unfortunately no. Enon were great though. John Schmersal played the guitar using his mic stand as a slide. _________________ where were you when nana komatsu got a wii? |

I love covers. The Stubbs soundtrack, as mentioned, is really good. The game's average, but the soundtrack is definitely worth getting.
I really like covers of older irish drinking songs. The Dropkick Murphy's have an awesome version of Finnegan's Wake.
I'm surprised nobody's mentioned Me First and the Gimme Gimmes. All they do is covers. If you like pop punk and oldies they're definitely worth checking out. They do themed cds. They've done the 60s, the 70s, r and b, show tunes, and country. |

There's a dub band called Jah Division that just does Joy Division songs. Haven't gotten a chance to hear them yet, so I don't know how good their stuff is.
My best friend's band did a cover of the "Mail Time" song on Blues Clues at a show last month. I'm not sure if they have a recorded version, but if they do I'll link to it. |

I realise I haven't particularly contributed to this thread, so here goes:
NIN does awesome covers for the most part. Whether it's Adam Ant's Physical, Soft Cell's Memorabilia, Joy Division's Dead Souls, Queen's Get Down Make Love, and the remix of Stone Cold Crazy or Gary Numan's Metal, I've never been disappointed. But then again, I may be biased on that one.
Bauhaus did a pretty awesome cover of Andy Warhol and Blixa Bargeld singing Somewhere Over the Rainbow is an epiphany. Faith No More doing Easy was huge in Europe, understandably. I also really enjoy Michael Gira's cover of I Wanna Be your Dog under the World of Skin project.
I have yet to hear a good cover of Suicide's Ghost Rider, however. _________________ "This is the most fun I've ever had without being drenched in the blood of my enemies!"

depends on how much you like joy division.
if you like jd a lot, you are probably not going to enjoy them too much.
i thought it was rather atrocious myself. _________________

I probably shouldn't bother then.
I remember seeing a list of all the covers of "Love Will Tear Us Apart" on some website once. It was, predictably, really, really long. |

I am altogether too fond of covers, as long as they're not horrible, which most are. Probably that's why I'm in an a cappella group, I suppose.
Jonathan Coulton's version of Baby Got Back is perhaps the best cover I've heard. The chorus is just stunningly imaginative, really.
http://www.jonathancoulton.com.nyud.net:8080/mp3/Baby%20Got%20Back.mp3
Also, Bohemian Rhapsody is probably the most-covered song ever, and most of them are terrible. Which is why the Kleptones' mashup of Bohemian Rhapsody covers is brilliant.

Ah, Thanks for showing that! I love it!
Guys I usually love covers (mostly "punk" covers of songs, like for example MXPX's version of My Boyfriends Back and Barbie Girl ) but I hate the Gnarls Barkley version of Gone Daddy Gone by the Violent Femmes. I dunno something irks me about it and they had to make the dumbest video for it too. Grr! |

If I were home I would provide a link to Faye Wong's cover of "Dreams" from Chungking Express because everyone likes that song.
Sometimes I think I like the R.E.M. covers of Lou Reed songs more than the originals. |

The Clash's version of I Fought The Law. Hardly obscure, but a great example of a band totally taking ownership of a song. |
