So there is a St. Louis International Film Festival coming up (god I am overloading myself!) and I want to go to at least one film but I have been so out of the loop that only a very few names ring a bell.
Any one else who is more into the scene than I am care to help me out with recommendations on one or two that look the most promising? Here's the list. _________________ “The average man has a secret desire to be a swaggering, drunken, fighting, raping swashbuckler.”

Yeah, I looked and the list and was about to scream "THE HOST!" before I looked at dark steve's link. But it bears repeating:
"THE HOST!"
Oh shit, INVISIBLE WAVES!
Pen-Ek Ratanaruang is fantastic; go watch 6ixtynin9 and Last Life In the Universe and you'll see; he seems to have a great range of ideas, and Christopher Doyle on the cameras is never a bad thing either. And Bong Joon-Ho's Memories of Murder while you're at it. I downloaded his Barking Dogs Never Bite (no domestic release yet) and that was great as well.
I envy you for those two (well, they've probably already come to NYC and I just never found out about them in time).
EDIT: And if you're only going to 2, take those. Gilliam is assured of a DVD release at least. |
