I can't say I'm up for a Seattle get-together just yet, having spent about 48 hours in my car last week, but maybe at some point. It's what, an hour or two away?

Whew. For anyone who's curious, we made it through our cross-country drive. Portland's a great place, but it would be nice to be able to find a job. Anyone who is in the know care to recommend a place to work as a stopgap until I can find a real permanent grownup job?

I just received my PAX passes, all... eight of them?
I'm going with three friends, but I received two identical envelopes of four passes each. The credit card wasn't double-charged or anything, so these are, er, "freebies". I guess the Right Thing To Do would be to e-mail them about it and let them know. On the other hand, the passes aren't numbered or registered or anything, so they're legit and it doesn't mean four other hapless persons didn't get theirs.
xvs07 and Squidlarkin (or anyone else who wants to come but didn't pre-reg or can't afford it), would you want them? I didn't pay for them, so I can't really ask for anything in return. (Though if someone happens to have a surfeit of money they'd like to donate to help defray the costs of getting to Bellevue, it'd be nice!)

::screams and cries and laughs and imagines he's running down to meet shake hands with Bob Barker::

You, sir, are beautiful. Squidlarkin and I would be overjoyed to accompany you, if you haven't thrown the passes to someone else due to our recent laxivity in board-reading. I'll PM you with details, but it should be noted that said slacking was due to finally locking down real, permanent jobs.

F.C.: Glad you made it, and sorry to hear that you're in a job bind. Have you tried local employment agencies yet? Also, I recommend putting apps in to grocery stores (because they're unionized and decent) and security services, both computerized alarm monitoring and patrols (because the turnover is insane and always hungry, and the pay is decent), and I second the vote for Star*uck's (yet another evil empire that takes care of its own). Most importantly, though, is to simply fire off apps to as many places as you can as quickly as possible, on the theory that *someone* will bite. As a last resort, if you have *no* other options, Plaid Pantry provides benefits (of a sort), though offset by minimum wage, and they will hire damned near anyone.

I will pretty much look like this at PAX:

So you should be able to spot me.

Dunno... could be tough. I've never been to PAX, but I fully expect to see enough cosplayers, catgirls, and commercialism to strike me blind within the first five minutes. Though you are strong in the way of the Geek, we should coordinate a definite meetup of some kind anyhow, just to be certain of So Awesomeness.

Anybody else up for meeting Six, Squidlarkin, and ApM sometime between Thursday and Sunday? (I'm free Thursday from 5pm to 8pm, and anytime during or surrounding PAX.)

Schedule!
Thursday: Work (9ish to 5ish), Insert Credit Meetup: Seattle - 8 or 9ish
Friday: Work (9ish to 5ish), dinner (5ish to 6ish?), PAX (6ish til whenever)
Saturday: PAX! I've got a meeting at 2pm, and I know I want to check out the "Make a Game For Under 10 Grand" panel at 5:30. Other than that, no plans.
Sunday: PAX! Until 6:30 or so, I guess.

I totally think we should have a time and a place to meet up at PAX, mostly because I don't have any friends here who are going and being at a geek convention alone is like the ultimate sadness.

Six, if you've still got an extra ticket kicking about, would you be willing to donate one to my wife? She probably wouldn't hang out all that much (even the Game On exhibit kind of overstimulated her), but she's interested in seeing what's going down there. If not, that's cool.

Well, I don't see anybody else talking, so I'll talk: Maybe early dinner Thursday night, 'round five or six? Exact place and time dependent upon where everyone has to be and when? Chime in y'all. Also, suggestions of venue would be appreciated.

Sorry! All four have been claimed, now. My friend's called dibs on the other two for his Halo buddies.

Dinner Thursday sounds dandy, and I'm sure my friends would be up for it. We're staying in Bellevue that night, but should be hanging around Seattle for most of the day. (As an aside, does anybody have any recommendations on where we could stash a few bags for cheap during the day? We're travelling fairly light, but not so light that it won't be a pain to lug everything around before we get to the hotel. Y-yay foresight?)

I can't post any hypersexyfighting pictures of me just yet, but my brother's lending me his camera sometime soon. In the meantime, I can maybe narrow it down a bit with a pic from last year?

Six: If it's convenient for y'all, I think our place would be the obvious choice to drop stuff. You've got my address, so Googlemap me and lemme know if it is.

Also, playing into that potentiality, ApM and I have tentatively decided that dinner is on Thursday at 6 p.m. at Rice and Spice, a Thai restaurant of exceptional quality and modest prices, located at 101 John St, 98109. It's literally a stone's throw from my apartment, so Six and company could easily swing by to grab stuff once feeding time has concluded. If the time or place need adjustment for some reason or other, please do post, as this is all quite open to negotiation now and won't be in about 36 hours.

All who plan to attend need to either post here or pop me a PM so's I can make the appropriate reservations. You thank!

xvs07: I think we'll be taking you up on that offer - I'll drop you a PM. Thanks!

The restaurant arrangements sound jus' fine. Hooray for eats 'n meets!

Also, I got the camera from my brother last night. I will probably look like a less composed version of this:

: O

I can say with certainty that that is the most awesome picture of me on the Internet, by which I mean that it is the only picture of me on the Internet.

Okie doke... So, to count up for Thursday's dinner, we've got Six, his three friends, ApM, Squidlarkin, his girlfriend, and myself. Anyone else who wants to come, now's the time to say so.

I'll resurrect this old thread rather than start a new one to do some ridiculous self-promotion.

Hey! Local Portland (and outlying area) TGQ folks, my wife and I will have a table at the Stumptown Comics Fest today and tomorrow, showing off some of our some of our comics projects. So if you're in the neighborhood or are by some random chance already comic to the show, stop by and say hi. We're in the program as Chris Harback / Robot Guy. I'll probably have my DS with me, maybe we could even get in a quick round of Tetris or something!

As a native Pacific Northwestern-er, and a comic person, I really wish I could make it to Stumptown. A ton of my friends are going to be at the show.... Good luck!

Thanks a lot! Yeah, I met a tons of people there, and saw an absolute shitload of DS's everywhere. But I was too busy to issue a Tetris challenge.

Weird, but I got hit with a major dose of social anxiety for some reason on day two. Fortunately my wife talked to every single person at the show to pimp our wares. Even though it was fun I was left feeling kindof let down by Stumptown. I guess I'm just spoiled from having had so much fun at SPX the last two years.

Actually no, we had just moved out here and couldn't afford to fly back, but I was there the previous two years along with some friends of ours.
