Ok so being the guy behind the curtain at this site I get to look at a lot of stats and see interesting charts... over 40% of our visitors use Firefox. I have not been too impressed with IE (and even less so about Netscape) so I thought what the hell. I downloaded it for home use and I am pretty impressed. Aside from the tabs I am pretty much using it like IE...
What are some features I can take advantage of on this thing? |

Welcome to the cool people club. You need to download some extensions:
Adblock, lets you kill ugly banner images.
Flashblock does what it says.
Get the Googlebar, because it takes up a lot of space and is cool-looking. And useful, too, sometimes.
Firesomething is necessary; trust me on that.
Chatzilla is like, IRC in your web browser or some shit like that.
So. Yeah. |

Anything else? That seems like some super excellent stuff. I am nervous about that ad thing. Someone was saying it was blocking the banners to this site |

I use adblock, and it doesn't block the GQ banners for me. Someone probably has a */banners/* rule or something. I make all of my adblocking rules from scratch, so that I don't block things I don't mind seeing.
miniT (drag+indicator) is essential if you use tabbed browsing.
I find Go Up to be a teriffically useful little button, as well.
The BugMeNot extension is totally great for reading the NYT website and stuff.
Download Statusbar is pretty awesome, if unnecessary.
Popup ALT attribute is essential if you read Dinosaur Comics or anything else that uses TITLE tags for hidden text.
StumbleUpon is a nice little timewaster. I'm surprised ajutla didn't mention it. |

I knew I'd forgotten something.
Yeah, BugMeNot and StumbleUpon are, like, essential and shit. |

Here are some that I use that haven't been mentioned yet. I'm not gonna give you links cause I'm lazy, but they are all easily found on the main Firefox extensions page (just click the Get More Extensions link in Tools>Extensions).
Disable Targets for Downloads - prevents download links opening in a blank window (nice if you read Other Music's newsletter)
Download Manager Tweak - gives more control over how files are downloaded...very handy
ieview - right click on the rare page that doesn't work in Firefox (like my bank) to open it instantly in IE
Image Zoom - obviously...
MapIt! - quickly map addresses...useful to find places quickly
QuickNote - select text, right click on it, and send it to a text file instantly...I use it to easily make note of albums I want to listen to
Translate - translates pages from many languages
FLST - brings the focus to last seleted tab when a tab is closed
AND MOST ESSENTIAL OF ALL:
Mouse Gestures (NOT All-In-One Gestures or whatever it's called) - I can't live without this now. You can do things by just moving your mouse. For instance, clicking on a link and moving up opens it in a new tab, moving the mouse left with the mouse gesture button clicked goes back, and moving down+right closes the tab/window you are in.
Have fun! |

Yeah and tabbed browsing will change your life forever.
And you forgot Nuke Anything. It is great for removing crap you don't want to see on web pages.

Is there anyway to make it so that it never openes a new window only opens a new tab? Sometimes it opens a new tab others a window. |

Scrollwheel click should definitely be opening windows in new tabs. Scrollwheel click on tabs should close 'em, too. It's a fucking indispensible shortcut. |

What a way to introduce myself here...
Pornzila @ http://www.squarefree.com/pornzilla/
Drag the links found here are WONDERFUL. Just drag them to that otherwise fairly useless bookmarks toolbar folder bar- type-thing. Even if you don't look at much in the way of adult-oriented content, all of these are very useful. |
