Oh man, I just caught wind of this game called Rainy Woods which, for the most part, looks like it's borrowing heavily from many of David Lynch's films, and from his general aesthetic.
Trailers here
Considering that almost everything that gets released on the 360 eventually comes to the US I kind of expect this too as well. Honestly, it looks like a PS2 game from the trailers, and it looks kind of bad. BUT I want to play it anyways. _________________ “The average man has a secret desire to be a swaggering, drunken, fighting, raping swashbuckler.”

It more looks like Twin Peaks: The Game, written by Stephen King, Directed by Roger Corman.
I'm kind of curious though--because I feel like this game could go either way--if it's going to be more an homage to Lynch or just a blatant exploitation of his work. _________________ “The average man has a secret desire to be a swaggering, drunken, fighting, raping swashbuckler.”

Suda51 is no longer the special kid on the block. It looks inspired by a few styles (it's only a trailer, of course). A bit of Silent Hill? Maybe? (It's not that rusty or foggy or wormy I guess). But yeah, Blue Velvet and Mullholand Drive, I see that. I hope it comes state-side too. Thanks for a heads up. _________________ he was the first to realize there was no future in farming |

Well, it is being developed by one of Suda51's toleraters: Marvelous Entertainment. I wouldn't be shocked to find that Suda has a finger or two in the game.
But yeah, the major similarities include Twin Peaks and Mullholand Dr. or Blue Velvet at times.
Doing a bit more poking around it seems like the Executive Producer is the man behind Harvest Moon. The director/lead designer is SWERY who also directed Spy Fiction/Extermination (PS2). Without a lot of information I know that Extermination was developed by Deep Space which was part of the team that broke up from Whoopee Camp (the developers of Tomba!. Another major part of the team went over to Team Ico, and then the rest is pretty much the lead developer of the Ghosts N Goblins games).
More research to follow shortly. _________________ “The average man has a secret desire to be a swaggering, drunken, fighting, raping swashbuckler.”

Hidetaka Suehiro is one of the writers for the game who also worked with Swery on Spy Fiction. The other writer, Kenji Goda is responsible for the Parasite Eve II story (unfortunatly).
Ahh, while watching the HD version of the trailer I now realize why so many people carry over from the Spy Fiction/Extermination games: this is developed by Access Games, which is essentially what happen to Whoopee Camp commercially. The character designer, level artist, level designer, writer, and art director.
The only person who's a bigger mystery is the art director, Hitoshi Okamoto. The only other person who I've found that could be him has only previously worked on sound and audio for games like Riviera, Summon Night: Swordcraft Story, and (of all things) Dragon Ball Z: Budokai.
In the special thanks appears Yoshihisa Ohbuchi who was the producer of King of Fighters EX2: Howling Blood, and also appeared on the special thanks of Valhalla Knights (an XSEED published game). The other person in the special thanks is Eishin Sasaki, who I believe to be in Killer 7's special thanks as well.
Interesting. This lowers my overall expectations, and there are a few people on the credits who have no previous connections to games that I know of, but this could be a great b-game coming out this year. _________________ “The average man has a secret desire to be a swaggering, drunken, fighting, raping swashbuckler.”

I'll set the scene for you:
[someone links to Rainy Woods]
SB'er1: Ha ha, Rainy Woods is a stupid name!
SB'er2: It looks like a bad playstation 2 game.
Me: Also it appears to have several scenes which are ripped off directly from the show Twin Peaks.
SB'er 1+2: We will not be playing Rainy Woods.

I don't see how anyone could not be excited about this.
A sandbox game by an small Japanese development house that rips off David Lynch?
Yes, please. |

How about I just come round your house and fuck you in the ass while talking backwards and a midget paints the room red? How could anyone not be excited about that ass-fucking? |

Thankfully I don't have much of a cinematic study under my belt, so I've got no idea what the fuck you guys are bitching about.
I'm still confused as to how the game is meant to play. _________________

Little harsh of you to immediately jump to anal rape when I was just saying Rainy Woods will at the very least be an interesting train wreck of a game. |

I'm acquainted with the guy who made D2. I wish I'd played it, or even heard of it before very recently. I want to interview him, but I'd feel kind of stupid, not having played his game.
His name's Kenji Eno, and he designs interfaces for vending machines now! Says it has a lot in common with making videogames. _________________ Raymondo Person | Eegra | Things |

I always expected a CD full of rape anthema to have John Mayer's photo on the cover. Maybe that's only for the date rape soundtrack. _________________ Signature:

You're acquainted with Kenji Eno? That's really impressive.
Eno also worked on Enemy Zero and D (though I find D nearly unplayable as it's mostly an FMV game that is painfully slow moving, though quite intersting) He has a blog and a google blog with music on it. On Nov 22 he made a post about the games hes made here. From a quick google translate it just seems like a development diary, but I would love to see an official translation. _________________ “The average man has a secret desire to be a swaggering, drunken, fighting, raping swashbuckler.”

Enemy Zero is pretty sweet, yeah, though D isn't all that great. He also made that sound only game that I can't recall the name of... Real Sound or something? I always wanted to try that one.
I heard he was getting back into games because of the Wii! Though if No More Heroes bombed... _________________

Shaper: If/when I interview him, I'll solicit question ideas on this forum, since some people here are familiar with his work!
Cycle: I asked him if he wanted to get back into games, and he said yes. No details on when or why, but it's straight from the horse's mouth at least! (Well, via me, I guess.) _________________ Raymondo Person | Eegra | Things |

Toups is never going to send it Cycle, just like he is never going to send me anything in return for having sent this to him long long ago. Just give up the ghost on that one.
I need to finish that game, but I think I need to fix my dreamcast first. The thing just makes such loud noises. Also, I think it might be better if someone else is around you wondering what the fuck is going on.
But yes, bug Toups about getting that game to you. I am holding some alarm clock of his hostage until then. |

Are there any console louder than the Dreamcast? It's so noisy.
I played Space Channel 5 part 2, it's amazing! The best graphics I've seen on the dreamcast. |

YES.
It's a shame it's not as well-known as the first game, 'cause it's about a bazillion times better. Well, maybe not a bazillion. Maybe ten. But anyway -- lots. Definitely in my top five games ever. _________________ Raymondo Person | Eegra | Things |

It's not far off from a bazillion. It even has more Michael Jackson in it than the first one.
I still think it's crazy that Michael Jackson appears in every entry in that series. He's pretty much a main character in the second one, too! |

You just have no rhythm man! Seriously, unless you only tried the game once and then gave up it's not that hard. It is a little awkward the first time or two, but after that it's cake. _________________ “The average man has a secret desire to be a swaggering, drunken, fighting, raping swashbuckler.”
