|
|
I was playing marathon with someone (it was their first time, he hated it though even though he said its better than doom) over xbox live and hes a BIG BAD MANGER at gamestop. He told me that people constantly come in asking for PACMAN because PACMAN IS GANGSTA.
I just want to know what is with hip hop culture and pacman
becuase like i got these pacman shoes, but i got them at the hip hop flashy bling bling store in the mall, not the skater kid weeaboo store i usually get shoes from
infact the people in that store didnt even know that pacman shoes existed!
so why is pacman so iconic for gangsta rap around Baton Rouge, Lousiana? does pacman eat bullets? do you think those dots are bullets? so if you cover yourself with pacman you can, too eat bullets and become bulletproof?
Or maybe its because he has always got those ghosts chasing him, they could be considered his "man" trying to "keep him down"
I saw a pac man belt buckle on a dude and i was like HEY NICE BELT BUCKLE PACMAN HUH and he said PAC MAN IS GANGSTA
is there an underground pac man revolution that i havent heard about?
im not really sure
i would like more input

From all the drug dealers I've worked with - thanks, fastfood - I heard the term used in connection with someone selling on someone else's spot. I was friends with this guy that was like Minor Drug Dealer and his friend Deluxe Drug Dealer would come in and chat about what was going on, and Sir Deluxe would call whatever interloper was around his spot Pac-Man. I was glad they introduced me to the lighter side of narcotics with the intent to distribute. "Pac-Man?! How fun!" _________________ Come to me, Mordel. We shall depart. |

The Gangsta Pac-Man connection is probably about how Pac-Man is trapped in a maze just trying to get by, avoiding the fuzz. The fact that Pac-Man takes power pellets to exact his revenge on his oppressors probably strikes a cord, too.
Also, Mario can't be black. _________________ Wii #: 8749 9109 9732 3653

With its electric-blue on black backdrop and glowing and abundant pellets, Pac-Man as a game is more Blingy than nearly all of its peers. _________________ =/ \(<D)_/

in asteroids you reduce monolithic heaps of ice and bling to grillworthy gems of bling until finally, they are relegated to the black void of space, ie the joolry store, to never bother you again, ie you have acquired them for your bling and your grillz.
i could also make a case for pong or missile command being gangsta but, ultimately, i think it's because classic video games are generally "in" right now. _________________

None of those games have a soundtrack.
Actually, none of those games have a character.
Trying to think of what other older games do: Donkey Kong, but Mario is Too Much With Us.
Then I thought of Space Invaders, but for some reason that seems more hipster these days than gangsta. So why is that? _________________ =/ \(<D)_/

It's funny you should mention this because two years ago a friend of mine got busted graffiting loads of Pac-Man ghosts down a street in Cardiff, and the cop got him by following the trail of ghosts and caught him while he was doing the stencil of Pac-Man. True. I never got caught, because my shit was much more discreet. We used to tag alleys and hidden spots with Zelda fairies, so it was like discovering a secret fairy fountain. Also we played a lot of Pac-Man on GBA at the time, and I used to think Jay-Z's The Grey Album was a good album to listen to while you played it because the lyrics are thematically similar to the gameplay. If anyone's got haters on his jizzock plus the freaking cizzops it's Pacman. So I guess this isn't the first time I've been aware of that link.
You know in London now you see a lot of black kids wearing customized shirts with cartoon characters on them, like Bugs Bunny, Sylvester, Tweety and Mario. Haven't seen a Pac Man one yet, though! But it wouldn't surprise me.
I visited Blitz Games where they make Pac-Man World for an interview, and those guys were about as un-gangsta as it's possible to get, but thinking back to it one of them had a fake ear! Maybe it got SHOT OFF BY A COP |

I think that shit is really cool! I mean when iconography is reappropriated by demographics they weren't intended for. I think it's ace that black kids make their own Super Mario and Looeny Tunes shirts.

Yeah, they sound pretty awesome
I should add I was under the impression these kids were making their clothes themselves, I think being able to buy this shit at the mall is a recent development. As is changing the imagery so they're doing gangstery things. |

God damn, "urban"-ified cartoon characters were pretty cutting edge in... let's see... 1986? '87? That's when I saw 'em in my middle school...

Because Pac-Man is the original consumer of power.
Also possibly because he gained massive popularity at roughly the same time as rap music. |

Pac-Man appeals to gangsters because he's a symbol of the Successful Immigrant.
Like Scarface, but without the attitude. _________________ "This is the most fun I've ever had without being drenched in the blood of my enemies!" |

I can't remember where I heard a black guy say 'It's ON LIKE DONKEY KONG!!' meaning 'let's get ready to rumble' but it was awesome. That should have been the tagline for The King of Kong. |

The thing is, I'm sure that I saw these in middle school, but I mostly remembered the Simpson ones, which must've happened after.
I think I saw Black Peanuts.
Also, there was whole Bebe's Kids WE DON'T DIE WE MULTIPLY that I didn't get it now. Though even then I thought it was kind of weird to purposefully hint at using an "R-Type" reproduction strategy. (Of course I didn't call it that then... see? Video games can be educational, kids!) _________________ =/ \(<D)_/

I never heard "The Pimpsons" but "Black Bart" was what everyone called him back in the day _________________ Signature:
