What's your gamertag isfest? I want to say I know this answer, but I can't recall offhand. _________________ “The average man has a secret desire to be a swaggering, drunken, fighting, raping swashbuckler.”

bleah. i bought bomberman and a gold account. bomberman is ugly and the level selection is pretty uninspired (the game is notably missing a conveyor belt stage and an everyone starts fully powered up stage) but, woohoo, it's live.
matt, call me when you get home cuz i might be sleeping. _________________

Instant buyers remorse!
But woohoo on the gold account! And I will call. _________________ “The average man has a secret desire to be a swaggering, drunken, fighting, raping swashbuckler.”

I got this today and played it a bit at lunch. It's good! My preferred setup is random stage selection with three rounds to win. The only thing is, I'm not sure Bomberman's a good match for online play. A big part of the enjoyment comes from playing with other people in the same room. In some ways it's a game of skill, but the main draw is the company, not the victory. I'll probably play if you guys get on, but I'm thinking that I'll probably play it more with the suckas at work and my friends at home.
Can I recommend worms again?

wing commander arena seems boring. and has nothing to do with wing commander, of course.
i'm still amazed i'm the only person i know to have bought missile command. doesn't wes buy anything they'll let him? i checked the leaderboards today, and i'm in something like 150th place. _________________

speaking of which, everyone should download the super contra demo just to see how utterly hideous it is. _________________

I'll admit that I only played the modernized version of Missile Command, but it was really, really bad. Like, something I'd never want to play. At least the Digital Eclipse ports are shoddy ports of games that are enjoyable underneath the bad emulation.
Also: Everyone should own Sneak King.

upcoming games for xbox live arcade.
sensible soccer will apparently be released on august 29th. no doom II, but final doom? ikaruga? every extend is coming out in august. durandal must be. metal slug has been announced; so's the incredible machine. oasis could be interesting - i beta tested it but havn't played the final game. space giraffe remains in limbo.
they need to get around to putting out some of these games already. _________________

oh, hot.
anyway, i ended up buying alien hominid, not for the main game (which is a kind of bland metal slug clone) but for the pda game. i figured, when's the next opportunity i'll have to play a cleverly designed single-screen platformer on my xbox? not until n comes out. i downloaded all the level packs, including the two "classic" packs (the levels from the original release) so that i can get rid of my copy of the gamecube version.
so far i've played through the first forty stages of the "starter" pack, which is unique to the xbox version. it takes about twenty stages to start getting good, but it does in fact get really good. and in the game's defense, you can start from stage 20. and hey, there's online multiplayer in case anyone other than i cares about this game.
someone has to figured out how to get around the copyright issue and put super mario war on this thing. maybe call it "super giana war"? _________________

so yeah i'm liking these levels but i'm annoyed the behemoth didn't bother to fix any of the bugs in the game or improve the collision detection. _________________

You mean for the regular game? I would be up for that with you even though the game is sort of disapointing.
Also, remind me, which version is Final Doom? _________________ “The average man has a secret desire to be a swaggering, drunken, fighting, raping swashbuckler.”

well, i assume there is for the regular, boring game but i was referring to the single-screen game, which is the non-boring one.
EDIT: though i would be down for playing through the normal game with you with an mst3k-like running commentary.
final doom is two super-ambitious doom II level packs that were designed by fans for free before john romero bought them and released them commercially. it's pretty interesting that those have been announced but not doom II. _________________

achievement unlocked: bigger guns nearby!
all the achievements on durandal award points in multiples of seven. ha!
anyway, this rocks my socks. right now, for one fleeting glorious moment, i'm somewhere around fifty on the leaderboards. this will not last. i'm in volunteers, the second chapter. i just flooded the lava factory. there's also a fabulous survival mode, where you fight off continuously-spawning phfor troops on deathmatch stages. i don't last very long, but it's exactly the sort of bonus mode i expect in a live title.
cycle, crosshairs or no, you will be playing this with us. i will brook no argument.
i have that power of seven song stuck in my head now. _________________

i changed the thread title. i hope that's okay. we talk about live arcade games a lot here.
it's weird to think that the xbox live durandal will be a lot of people's first experience with marathon. i'm kind of worried they'll try to play it like it was doom. _________________

I am waiting on playing through the single player for a bit to see if Goose wants to co-op it with me. But oh god is it pretty.
And survival is an awesome little bonus game. It makes me remember the part of State of Emergency I liked, that whole arcade don't die feeling. |

I can't really play this tonight
It will be my first Marathon experience because I could never get that aleph one shit to work. Anyways, I'm psyched even if I probably won't be playing it until this weekend or so. _________________ “The average man has a secret desire to be a swaggering, drunken, fighting, raping swashbuckler.”

Frick yes I am downloading this tonight.
Also I've heard from arcade champions on the original that the "new" Missile Command is pretty good once you come to terms with it so I might check that out as well. |

you would all be destroyed if I had an xbox.
also, can you turn crosshairs off? I'd still kick ass without them.
also, I wouldn't co-op with me, since I know the game like the back of my hand and speed run it without even reading the terminals these days.
i'm getting a 360 in early october if all goes well.
also i guess i'll go finish that article now. shaper, when would it be printed, if i get it in before this issue goes out?
