I paid $5 for RotTK10 for the PS2. Sorry, but there's no way in hell I'm getting today's release. _________________ “The average man has a secret desire to be a swaggering, drunken, fighting, raping swashbuckler.”

The speccy original was a nice little single screen "platformer" with nice inertia and stuff.
I have a suspicion the remake might be absolutely wonderful, but I'm not going to drop 400 points on it unless I know it is. _________________ aerisdead |

Granted, I played them about 8 years ago, and my tastes have changed significantly since then, but I still thought Jetpac was fantastic.
It's also pretty hard. |
Yeah I agree with this, although I think the original Donkey Kong was the best part of Donkey Kong 64. Anyway, Jetpac was Rares first ever game, back when they were known as Ultimate Play The Game. It was the first in the Jetman series.
It's lots of fun and pretty damn addictive, I had tonnes of fun with it and got pretty far. It's pretty cheap when you get killed at the endge of the screen though! Well, I guess you just learn to stay away from there. ANYWAY, it's already made remade like a billion times before, so... one even features mario! it was actually pretty clever.

Today's games are Star Fox 64, Dragon's Curse and the NES TMNT. The last one is $6 instead of $5. I imagine people will complain about this somewhere! |

I enjoyed the demo for Jetpac Reloaded (or whatever it's called) and ended up buying it. There's a ton of levels and I have enjoyed it quite a bit! _________________ resetbutton.net: videogames for unattractive people |

Agreed! I bought it yesterday and I like it a whole lot! The updated version is easily the best of the "classic updates" the 360 has gotten. The concept of the original is very good, but the tech it was runs on feels very dated. Moreso than most classic arcade games. The new version keeps the concepts that the first one was built on but updates the graphics and pacing in all the right ways. Good stuff.
As for the VC, does anyone know if Dragon's Curse is any good? I like both Dragons and Curses so of course I'm interested, I don't even know what type of game it is though. I shoulda had a TG16.

Holy shit, it's Wonder Boy 3! Does that mean it's part of the Wonder Boy Collection that I bought but haven't received yet? Damnit. I want to play.

Triple post for great justice.
I found this link which is a good rundown of all of the Turbo games and their likelihood to appear on the VC. Pretty informative when wondering about future VC releases.

It's unfortuate that it's already incredibly dated!

The Game Gear and SMS ports are on the Monster World Collection, but not the version that got put on the VC today. |

Tell me differences! I must know which version is best!
Also, yeah it's dated, but if you want to know ABOUT a game that you already know is coming to VC it's a pretty good reference. That's been my issue for the past few Mondays.

It has a bigger screen resolution and better music than the Game Gear versions based on the hardware difference alone, but I wouldn't pick up the TG16 version if you already have Monster World collection on the way. |

I just beat a game intentionally choosing the "easy" path each time. I used the classic controller.
I kept on wasting bombs because I would set my finger on the wrong button at the start of an area. I would have used a Gamecube controller for the superior analogue stick placement but the shoulder buttons had to be depressed down faaaaaar too much to manage A BARREL ROLL consistently.
Anyway, I didn't even break a thousand hits at the end! I expect to soon now that I have the game in an easily accessible place. |

goddammit, i should've known they'd do something like that after mapping the rest of the controls so damned logically (been waiting for this game all along as something that i was reasonably confident would turn up in the first six months as opposed to, say, bubble bobble / kirby superstar / mario party 2, and well, there i go). |

New games today.
Galaga™ (NES®, 1-2 players, 500 Wii Points)
BRAVOMAN™ (Turbografx16, 1 player, 600 Wii Points
Alex Kidd™ in the Enchanted Castle (Sega Genesis, 1-2 players, 800 Wii Points)
Quote: | Bravoman
US Release: 1990
US Publisher: Namco
Developer: Namco
An arcade conversion involving a superhero with extendable limbs. Not very good looking and not very entertaining. Your nemesis is the evil Dr. Bomb, a weird purple-haired old man waving a staff in your face that introduces each stage.
The game itself is oddly animated and the control just feels off, for lack of a better description. The levels are rather bland (although there are five design sets, they're reused over and over), as is the action itself. Bravoman is a pretty horrid design in and of himself, so it doesn't leave much room to like the character. The game gains some slight interest in the fact that when underwater, Bravoman converts into a submarine with basic shoot 'em up gameplay as the result. Along the way he runs into a couple of other characters known as Alfa Man and Lottery Man, who offer their own types of assistance.
Today, the game is seemingly more "popular" for its Engrish translation than anything of value.
Wii Virtual Console Chance: None, hopefully.
To put it bluntly, this isn't a very good game. It seems as though it would barely be interesting when it was new, let alone over a decade later. Not worth the time and Namco will probably quickly realize this. |
Apparently Bravoman isn't very good!

Yeah, it's pretty shitty! I think it's great that I can download it for 6 bucks on a modern video game console, though. It's so wonderfully improbable.
I'm not going to, but it's nice that the option is there. |

So I finally got my Wii back on the net and discovered we have Punch Out! in addition to a few other neato games you yankees don't have! Sweet!
Also, for some reason Elebits is called Eledees here. I prefer the former. _________________

It is! You can even keep your current region's games. This is pretty much only restricted by which countries you can select in your options menu. This fucking great news! I still have to buy a Wii, but I was planning on in the future buying a Japanese one as well to get their VC games too, but it sounds like I won't have to!
Im guessing there maybe issues with Euro VC games however, with the different TV mhz or whatever issues? |

It might as well be called "Boom Boom Dollar" since it's basically DDR with the arrows rising at different parts of the screen instead of in one column. I was expecting more, but literally I think I could have thrown this together from the stepmania code in about an afternoon. _________________ resetbutton.net: videogames for unattractive people |

Here's something I just realized. It would have made traditional business sense to have released Paper Mario 64 on VC a few weeks ago, to drum up anticipation for Super Paper Mario. But they didn't. This is coupled with the delayed release of Ocarina of Time, several months after Twilight Princess; should we take this to mean that the VC is actually a more profitable operation than new games, and instead of that traditional model they're hoping to drum up support for the VC rerelease? Will we be able to calculate a model of VC dates?
(New game release date) + (New game's approximate length / hours per day Nintendo's statistics show the average player will spend with it) = (Date of prequel's rerelease on Virtual Console) |

I don't think we have a big enough data set. Super Paper Mario is like the first(?) Nintendo published game to be released outside of the launch window. _________________ resetbutton.net: videogames for unattractive people |
