thunder force isn't as good a game as some people seem to think it is. _________________

I read this a few months ago. Honestly, I'm not much of a Thunder Force fan. |

You guys are killing me! Next thing you know, I'll find out that no one appreciates the Ray series!
Seriously. Ouch. Are there any Thunderforce fans here besides me? The article was a nice read though and I should frequent the side much more then I normally do. _________________

The article was a really nice read. The one about the Star Trek game was more entertaining though, I think. |

Don't start talking about the Ray series! Oh man! There is much respect for that series on these boards.
Anyways, TF didn't really find it's way until part three. So, with that, you have some mediocre beginings, then some strong moments in the middle and a weird arcade game on the side. At best I will admit to liking one of the games (and having not played V), but as a series it's a bit of a mess.
Haven't read the article yet, but I am right now! _________________ “The average man has a secret desire to be a swaggering, drunken, fighting, raping swashbuckler.”

I enjoy the series quite a bit too, so there's at least two of us. I just wish I could find it in a nice manageable compilation that doesn't cost a lot (I'm looking at you, Saturn Thunderforce Collection!). |

I really dug TF as a series when I was younger, but it's harder to go back to now. TFV is broken as hell, IV is too long, III is kind of bland and easy. Rockin' music though!
The Ray series sucks except for Layer Section, by the way. |

I was thinking toothache. I think the salute idea is more appropriate, though. _________________ Like you thought you'd seen copter perverts before. They were nothing compared to this one. |

Layer Section is amazing. The rest is good. Hence, an excellent series. Anyways, I think I like what Ray-Crisis is doing a lot. I need to spend more time with it though. _________________ “The average man has a secret desire to be a swaggering, drunken, fighting, raping swashbuckler.”

i've never played raycrisis. i have raystorm on the ps2 but i havn't played it that much. i just can't imagine loving it as much as rayforce. layer section may well be my most-loved shooter, even if i'm sure i'll never see the end of it on one credit. _________________

Raycrisis is pretty weak. Raystorm's great, though. |

Don't make me choose! I have to admit though Thunderforce came from nothing and evolved into something great. I adore V, even though it is panned frequently. It's love or hate when it comes to that game.
Also, this reminds me of my hardcore shooter days. Ahh, memories. _________________

I have faith that you could. I could get to the boss before before the last level on one credit, and you're probably better than me. It's not really that hard once you get down the crowd control and learn where to kill everything before it really even comes on screen. I also did this in only one weekend of pretty much straight playing. _________________ “The average man has a secret desire to be a swaggering, drunken, fighting, raping swashbuckler.”

... I still find absolutely nothing wrong with part 4. Great graphics, awesome music, spot-on difficulty. Plus the last boss and ending are both amazing.
I even still enjoy 5, though only the Saturn version for its piss poor polygon graphics, which will make you go "hey, at least they tried." |

so i've been playing some raystorm and raycrisis. i like them! they don't have as much art as rayforce, but few games do. i do feel as though sprites make the theme of descent more tangible, though the theme admittedly isn't as strong in either of those games to begin with. raycrisis has lovely bosses / large antibodies. so does raystorm, but raycrisis clearly shifts the weight of its stages toward the bosses.
anyway, i just bought simple 1500 volume 75: the double shooting (both latter ray games on one disc) off of yesasia. yes, asia! _________________

Woowoo! I like Raycrisis much better. It feels more thought out... or something. I guess it just feels more like a game they wanted to make and less like a game that was half hearted because "OMG 3D graphics!" ended up taking too much time to do. _________________ “The average man has a secret desire to be a swaggering, drunken, fighting, raping swashbuckler.”
