i just finished dracula x: chi no rondo for the pc-engine super cd-rom from the beginning, no continues, in front of my parents whom i watched play nes castlevania when i was little. my mother was on the phone from shaft's ghost through the credits, which really disappointed me, but my father, who reached dracula when i was little but was never able to defeat him, cheered me on in the final battle.

my route was 0, 1, 2', 3', 4', 5, 6, 7, final. i lost my first life in stage 6. (i finished with 3 lives, i think.) and i played as richter, of course.

my file is currently 88% complete.

VICTORY.

I still haven't played this yet!

I just think it's so cool that your parents were seriously into videogames. I think if my girlfriend and I ever had kids (not that we're planning to) we'd be just like that. Playing videogames with kids is pretty fun!

Arghh! Tim broke the avatar restrictions?!

Anyways, welcome Tim. I miss the Calvin and Hobbes.

I'd like to get my parents into videogames.

My brother once tried to show my father the wonders of NHL Sports via Xbox (both are hockey fans) but the results were uninspiring. My dad likes to scoff. He does this at videogames regularly. I mean, he literally makes a sound sort of like "scoff!"

Also, Dess, congratulations! I don't mean to distract from your accomplishments.

Sorry! I was wondering if the restrictions were followed here or if we go out of the boundaries like IC. I've changed it, and I can still make it smaller.

Death Note is a fine manga. A bit on the silly side, but then again what manga isn't?

Really? I think it's fairly serious. Unless you're talking about silly situations, then I can agree with that.

I actually got into Death Note because of a feature that chazumaru did at insert credit last year for "Fucking Konami Week." So my current avatar here and on IC are a reference to last year's FKW.

To get back on topic, I would like to see Dess do a speedrun of Chi no Rondo.

shaper said the same thing. my skills need a bit of work before i would be capable of such a thing. and i might set rondo aside for a while to focus on contra: hard corps.

i did just find stage 5', the final hidden stage i had not seen. i also rescued richter's lover in the clock tower. my file is currently 94% complete.

i'm pretty sure i know where the last prisoner is hidden, i just havn't figured out how to get to her.

You are correct, Tim!

Death Note has a fairly serious tone, though the situations fueling it would look way too ridiculous if it treated them with less pomposity.

But, yes, a Hard Corps speed run would be good.

This topic reminds me how infuriated I am over the lack of an OSX magic engine. That guy told me in an email it was a sure thing but HE WAS LYING TO ME.

People keep sniping Hard Corps out from under me on ebay.

Nah, the Magic Engine guy. I talked to him once! For clarification, bannister is now "twitchy roller coaster guy", john stiles is "the skittles guy", brad oliver is "probably catatonic guy" and the dude who works on sixtyforce is "the jerk who works on sixyforce."

oh, hah, I just bothered to google "magic engine."

Nothing new in nearly four years? That's pretty awful.

brad oliver is actually doing things, though. "Twitchy" is a damn good description of bannister, though.

well! i rescued the final prisoner and finished the game to see the best ending.

now i'm going to look at all the spoilers i've been witholding myself from looking at, and set the game aside for a while. i think we both deserve a rest.

working on this game has been the most satisfying experience in my history with the castlevania series.

NOT JUST YET YOU DON'T! The forum demands a speed run. If you get it down to a managable size I will even host it.

Anyways, yea, you really should buy Chronicles soon.

You know, I've always thought of PCE Dracula X as the epitome of late 80's / early 90's video game style. It's almost like I've avoided buying it because I fear that I'll be disappointed by it. I take it that's not the case?

Anyway I've got to chase down a PCE before I do anything.

EDIT: Yes, Chronicles is heartily recommended! Shaper, I thought you'd want to know that with my recent Ceramic White Slim PS2, I can finally play my copy again!

contra hasn't arrived yet, so i put the game back in my super cd-rom and played it a bit more, checking out some of the secret stuff i discovered while perusing spoilers last night (including a whole boss).

now my file is 100%. i also have every technique video unlocked except the very expensive final one.

if contra doesn't come along and distract me, i'll probably continue playing rondo. at some point i'm sure i'll attempt to record something (though i'm not sure i have space on my computer for recording), even if it probably won't be a proper speed run.

The second one is great, in a "get drunk and go stagger into a movie" sort of way.

Well, that depends on the people around you, now doesn't it? And I certainly don't have anyone around who I'd like to share such a thing with.

I mean, Romper Stomper is the same type of movie. Especially, when you watch it with a real skinhead next to you and the both of you make fun of the Australian girl that tagged along.

Zoom in on a portrait of Hitler.

"Australian president?" I say.

"It's not the president," she says.

"Wow, according to this movie, Australia has, like, just become Vietnam," I say

A guy in the Australian navy appears on screen.

"You see," my skinhead friend. "He's in the navy because the Australian army is just the Viet Cong."

"Oh, be quiet."

Then a Polish guy walks by, watches the movie for a second, and says: "Man, I was looking forward to going to Australia, but this movie has killed that, you know."

"It's not like that," she says.

And so on.

Quite a tangent.

One can only hope contra does not indeed come then. And if speed run is not the right word, then "awesome run" it shal be dubbed.

About Final Destination 2: I did not want to see it at all after the first one, but after I borrowed it with high (I say this in terms of the catagory of film) recomendations I was shocked at how over the top it is. It is really awesome in a I can't belive that happen kind of way. It is almost like a mock-u-mentary of Faces of Death.

Remember that really ugly sex scene at the party, where they pore champagne on one of the skins?

At that point I said: "Australian sex?"

It's quite funny actually, whenever I write letters to this girl, I always ask her how her life is in Vietnam.

It's a good thing I've only read the first volume, or else that spoiler might have spoiled things I might not have wanted spoiled.

In other news, I booted up SotN just now and was shocked to discover that a good deal of IC injokes come from it.

For some reason, I didn't remember the dialogue in the beginning, so you can imagine what the hell went through my head when:

Dracula: Perhaps the same can be said of all religions.

You know I've always thought that that was just something that someone else just blurted out or something. But, lo, there it was.

And then there was, of course,

Dracula: What is man? A miserable little pile of secrets.

Again, I really didn't know this stuff came form there.

Anyway, I'll just say that SotN remains impressive. It's got the best introductory sequence I've re-seen in a long time. It almost made me want to like Castlevania again.

totally unrelated, what's with the always being surprised thing? are japanese people easy to sneak up on or something? or is it an anime/manga trope that just got absorbed, like telescopic eye bug outs in warner bros cartoons?

sorry if this makes no sense, i took the wrong thera flu and antihistamines are not my friend.
