I heard that there are only limited amounts of colors in the USA, so which colors are Japan only that I should buy before returning to the states?

If you're planning to make money by selling them when you get back Play Asia might have you beat. Otherwise, Japan's got a Black version and a White version that we never got, either of which I recommend.

The pink and blue just came out here attached to Nintendogs, but the Japanese versions have different color buttons.

Black one for sure. If not black, then get the pink one. That is the color my wife got and it is really nice. White too.

Nintendogs also had a light purple one.

The color that would get you the most burning envy would be the black, I think. This reminds me of when I bought an orange GBA (in Japan) many years ago. Upon my return, I sold it for a good profit.

The red one just came out here as a companion to Mario Kart. If you're a fan of the red one you might want to wait until you get back and pick it up here.

I don't like the shade of red they used for the Red DS personally.

I always liked the orange GCN controller you see once in a while; I wish they made Wavebirds in that color (and Black and Purple while they're at it. Why not?)

Hmmm, I think I'm leaning towards the black one. Who could I sell it too to get this profit?

The Black one is pretty nice, but you probably won't want to sell it.

Apparently there's also a Gold one that's only available at Japanese Toys R Us stores, and a Blue one with Pokemon on it that's only available at Pokemon stores. You might be able to sell either of those for a hefty profit!

Okay, the truth is I don't want to sell it to anybody. I just want a DS. I want Mario Kart DS, Mario 64 DS, the upcoming Final Fantasy 3, and a few other GBA games that I missed out on (LOZ: The Minish Cap being one of them). I think those four games, plus more coming out and that have come out constitute me buying a DS now. It's only $150 anyways, right? I might wait until my Birthday though . . .

A few things:

You MUST buy Kirby for the DS. It's very likely the best thing on the system.

You can skip out on Mario 64. It's the game that made analog sticks a necessity, but without an analog stick.

Minish Cap is good (and don't let anyone who hasn't played it tell you otherwise).

A DS is $130 now in the US, or you can get one with Nintendogs or Mario Kart included for $150 (I think the prices are the same in Japan).

You should buy Mario and Luigi for the DS. It's a spiritual sequel to Super Mario RPG and Paper Mario that's far better than either of those games.

You might want to give Phoenix Wright a shot. You're an Anime dork so I think you might be willing to give it a chance even though it's not exactly what you're usually in to.

Yes, but I'm pretty sure that Ryan didn't. I don't think that many people did for some reason.

But... M&L DS is a direct sequel to an amazing game... why say spiritual sequel to inferior games (one of which has a real sequel)?

I thought it was a picture of Mr. Driller, Meteos, and Dig Dug having sex with your DS. FROM BEHIND!

Well, if you're just buying it for yourself, I recommend you get whichever color you like the best.

I'll look into Kirby, and the bundle deals here. And I probably should give M&L a try for the GBA. And as far as anime goes, I'm not as big as I used to be. You're the one that got me started in that in the first place. Remember letting me borrow Evangelion back when we worked at EB my Freshman year?

And is Mario 64 DS not even worth it to play for the nostaligc value? It's been soooo long since I've played that game.

Perhaps for $5
I did not get the $20 worth I paid.

I got my copy of Mario 64 DS free and never played through the original. So... uh... yeah, what Shaper said.
