I picked up Flashback for $5 today at a pawn shop.

Probably won't get to play it for awhile, though.

Bullshit.

The games industry can't keep this pace up. I'm calling it, right now, folks. The games industry will crash with the next generation. It may not be as bad as the crash in the 80's, but it will be bad. If Nintendo actually follows through on their GDC rhetoric, they will be hurt the least; regardless of whatever else happens, Microsoft, with their "HD era" talk, will be hit the hardest. Sony will lose money but keep doing what they've always done. The PSP will probably sink, though.

Disclaimer time:
1) I know barely anything about economics or business, or even the inner working of the games industry; this comment is not only totally off the cuff, but also based on my increasingly frothing hatred of the games industry.
2) I'm being optimistic (in that, this is what I hope will happen, because the games industry sure as hell needs it). This isn't a realistic expectation. But, I could see it happening. I can see gamers getting fed up with increased prices for the same crappy games they played this generation, only HIGHER RESOLUTION OMG. I can see consumer interest drop to a startling low; even the occasional GTA or Zelda won't be enough to keep things afloat.

Unless Microsoft wants to give me an HDTV then I probably won't be partaking much in the "HD Era" either.

And right now the only thing I care about for the next gen is GTA. There's still a lot that could be improved on with better technology and some tighter design. That, and I'm a shallow GTA whore. I'm interested in what they're doing with the next Elder Scrolls game as well, Oblivion.

Yeah... That's about all I care about for the next generation. An industry crash wouldn't surprise me either. I know if games go up to $60 or more I definately won't be buying as many of them.

I barely buy any as things stand. And when I do, it's a year or two after their release, when the price has dropped.

Hell. I might be like, filthy stinking rich soon. But I'll always be a cheapassgamer at heart.

I had a fevered dream today in which Toups featured heavily.

I spent days and days editing a fevered article about an obscure trilogy of Japanese GBA games. The article became an obsession, and it was impenetrable.

Toups began to haunt me at my childhood home, where I was supposed to celebrate my sister's birthday, but where, instead he showed up drunk demanding revision after revision after revision.

At the end, I realized I hadn't eaten in two days.
