I think a valid question that this raises is how much faith any of us can still have in the concept of Castlevania in 3D. Maybe they'd have more success if they made if first person.

That's a joke.

Let's see, Gunstar Super Heroes GET!
Soul Calibur 3 GET! (my wife's a big fan and hasn't realized the series has jumped the shark)
Castlevania almost GET! but will wait to see a review or two after the last 3D CV... and maybe a price drop.

Oh, and not on the list, but Dig Dug Digging Strike GET! too! It's really, really good, too!

gunstar depends on when i get a gb player.

other than that...no handhelds, no piece (of commerce).

i am probably getting both oblivion and fear for mithras day or my birthday. which is all i really want. quake 4 is a piece of goo.

I'm really looking forward to playing Civ 4 but...probably not on my computer.

What was the last 3D Castlevania anyway? I feel like the only person in the world who doesn't follow the series and actually liked the n64 one.

EDIT: Is Oblivion coming out soon? It's one of those things I resigned to the "some time in the distant future" slot of my expectations. Also, probably not on my computer. Not unless I make a new one just for it.

I'd like to check out the new Ratchet and Castlevania games, but if I had the money I'd probably just spend it on Gunstar. That's really the only must-buy I see out of that list.

I actually have no knowledge of this game, other than that it appears to be a remake from the screenshots I've seen.

oblivion is due in november. i'm going to try and run it. if not, well, i have some money coming my way due to unforseen boon-ness that may find its way into a new graphics card/mobo/processor combo.

just need to pick one, is all.

dig dug is great fun. i've already played through all the "normal" stages twice. gunstar super heroes...is essential. details to appear in the gamer's quarter issue 4.

when's taito legends coming out? it has a number of games that are on neither arcade memories disc. specifically, return of the invaders and ninja kids.

Same here. I still want to get that DS Castlevania, though, because I don't mind boring familiarity.

And my PS2 is broken so I can't play SotC. Did I mention that? And how bummed I am about it?

Anyone know how much store credit at Gamestop one can normally get for a half-broken PS2?

oh, gunstar reminds me- when I go pick it up, is it worth it to get advance guardian heroes as well?

the things on my list are Fire Emblem GC and FEAR, but I'm perfectly able to wait for both cause portables take almost all my play time these days.

BUY ADVANCE GUARDIAN HEROES.

Anyone that tells you it's no good spent 3 minutes with it on an emulator and has crud for [strike]reflexes[/strike] patience. No more difficult than say, Vagrant Story if you're into that.

Someone has to tell me how Civ 4 is while I covet a Mac version and dread the quality of the conversion.

I have had it for quite a while. It is pretty damn good. I beat it on normal than hard, then I worked on Super Hard or what ever it was. I got stuck on the space stage towards the end with the columns you can break and the eyeball things on little tiny spider legs. Good stuff.

re: gunstar super heroes, north american release.

they really should have kept the original voices. green's new voice is especially terrible, but i hate that they changed even the grunts of soldiers and smash daisaku. still, it's gunstar super heroes. and they kept the g spot.

Last night Shaper and I hit up Toys R Us for the Buy 2 get 1 Free game deal. I got Soul Calibur III, DDR With Mario, Fire Emblem GC, Metroid Prime Pinball, and Pac-man Pinball.

Soul Calibur III rocks. Every time you swing your weapon you unlock something new. And there's a full-blown RTS mode where battles take place in the Soul Calibur Engine. And the story mode has QTEs. And I created a character named Sextania. I'm really into it.

how's the create-your-own-character mode? the only thing that interests me about the new soul calibur is the avatar capital.

Well, it's pretty robust overall but you've got to unlock stuff first. You can change everything from eyepatches, monacles, capes, bras, shirts, coats, elbowpads, bandannas, haircuts, faces, armor, shoes, gauntlets, hats, faces, etc. and you can change the color of everything too. It's very neat. The only real problem I have with it is that you start out with just a few character classes and weapon choices.

I want to make someone that uses a whip sword, damnit!

has anyone obtained taito legends yet? i read somewhere that it's supposed to include rayforce, which would be absolutely fantastic, but the official site doesn't seem to mention it.

it does mention volfied, the underrated follow-up to qix, however!

Wait, Wes, there's a 2-for-1 sale going on at Toys 'R Us? I wanted to buy Digital Devil Saga 2 and maybe Castlevania, but if I could get them both with Soul Calibur, then well... I'll be happy.

And I'm too busy to play them. I cry.

LET'S ALL MAKE OUR GAME WANT LISTS!! (New releases ONLY!)

Mine goes like so:
- Dragon Quest VIII
- Castlevania: CURSE OF 3D PAIN
- Digital Devil Saga 2
- Animal Crossing DS
ESTIMATED TOTAL PRICE:
$200 (rounded up!)

I'm sure there's more so the rest is pending!
In my heart, I hope there's nothing more though. My wallet bleeds four shades of red!

FOR your DS:
-Trace Memory
-Pheonix Wright
-Trauma Center
-Lost in Blue

FOR your XBOX:
-Call of Cthulu, maybe!

FOR your PS2:
-Is We <3 Katamari still considered new?

FOR your GC:
-Is Battalion Wars?

I just completed my console trilogy this week, and it has expanded my buying options exponentially! There's a lot of old games that are now new to me...I think this list should be far more extensive. Anyway, at least I have a generous family, so here's to waiting for Christmas!

Psychonauts
Bumpy Trot (not that I know much about it, but it's Irem and that's enough)
Dragon Quest 8 (though I was underwhelmed by the demo)
That new Zelda game
Fire Emblem for GC, maybe (I'd like another new SRPG and this seems promising)

Shadow of the Colossus and We Love Katamari were the games I was REALLY looking forward to. I had to think to make up this list.

Chibi Robo's one of the few things on my radar. It looks like a Dreamcast game and I couldn't be happier about it. It is still scheduled for the 15th, right?

Edit: Is there some comprehensive game release list that just has everything coming out for everything on a single page?

I know that the Tony Hawk games are a guilty pleasure of mine and that this is by the same team that created them. I may renig on this, but for now I've got somewhat high hopes.

Actually my guess is that it's going to be pushed back to next year some time. I based this list on EB's coming soon list (which is often guesstimated upon announcement and then not updated unless a date officially changes).

Nope, I don't think so. I usually use this.

I try not to place any stock at all in anything Gamestop/EB says about games, ever.

I currently use Gamespot's list, but I wish I they'd show more than one week at a time. It says Chibi Robo and Odama are both coming on the 15th, but I'll honestly be surprised to see either of them then.

So. What the hell happened to Phantasy Star Trilogy? Last I checked, Gamestop had it slated for Quarter 4 of this year. IGN now lists it as both for North America only and Japan only, and Gamestop has changed the release to TBA. I've been looking forward to a finally competent NA re-release of these games (curse you again, Phantasy Star Collection, and curse you, Japan-only Saturn port).

Just picked up Civ 4, it's more of the same but prettier. Looking forward to Dragon Quest 8 big time. Need to get Ace Wright, Shadow of Collosus, that Surgery Game, and last but definately not least Fire Emblem.

You mean like someone writing a SNES EPROM with the easily-obtainable fan translation of DQ5, then charging $40 for it? Yeah, I know someone.

hahahahahaha

Yeah. You know... On one hand, I want to say Squeenix hates you and will never release it in the states. On the other, the PS2 remake of DQ5 has been out for... Three years? No, two years.

I'll tell you what. If Dragon Warrior VIII sells well, I'll tell Squeenix to release the PS2 dq5 statess-side, okay? Will that make you feel better? It'll be $50 and on a 6-year old system. Is that the image Square wants?

Post script: I think DQ5 is the second best, after DQ3, in my smarmy opinion.

I'm tto lazy to list everything, but it looks like this upcoming week is going to be pretty bad too. Snowboard Kids DS, Screw Breaker, and (apparently) Chibi Robo are the ones on my list.

So am I so totally out of the loop about the Xbox 360 that I didn't realize it's coming out soon? Looks like a lot of games/accessories for it ship this week and next at least.

You're in luck! Screw Breaker (now Drill Dozer) and Chibi Robo got pushed back until next year. Feb. 6th for both.

Yeah, but they won't be able to sell any first party stuff until the release date on the 22nd. At least, that's how it's been in the past. If places are selling accessories early (other than the wired controller), someone's not doing something right.

Whew! That's a load off! I'm up to my eye teeth with Gunstar Super Heroes, Metroid Pinball, and Soul Calibur 3. But it's sad, I had hoped to get Chibi Robo for my wife for Xmas. Oh well.

Drill Dozer? Guh.

Well, like I said, I'm super out-of-the-loop on Xbox 360 matters. Huh! This will the first time I haven't bought a console on launch day since... shit, since the Genesis. I'm curious to hear who around here is getting one-- the EB bundles are gut-wrenchingly expensive, but launch day systems seem to be trending toward that kind of arrangement these days.

Now see, I was enthralled by Chazumaru's praise for this one over at IC! Ugh! Dess, you edge out Chaz by quite a bit in the recommendations, so I'll trust you, but ARGH! It looked so good! Oh well. At least now I just have to buy SBK.
