So, this is interesting on a few levels. One is how this was dubbed "Playstation Thumbs." It reminds me of when everything was called a Nintendo at one point. Like when Playstation first came out and parents would ask for the new Nintendo. Or just call every game a Nintendo game. Similar to how tissues are called Klenex, or all Duct Tape is called "duck tape."

I think that up until the mid/late 90's this would have been called Nintendo Thumbs. I guess that losing the #1 place in video games has a few advantages.

this sort of damage used to be called "nintendo thumb" in the late 80s/early 90s.

What used to really frustrate me was when everyone called the Genesis a "Sega." Did so few people know of the existance of the Master System?

Nah, everyone called it a "Sega Genesis". They said both words simultaneously, not just "Sega" or "Genesis".

Always stuff like: "Dude, I prefer Madden on Sega Genesis."

Aside from the complete failure of the SMS to the point that it was not even distributed in parts of the US, they are still both SEGA systems.

Nonetheless I would say: "You play SEGA games on the Genesis." I don't think I ever called a system by the company name after the NES.

Surely PlayStation Thumb is more serious than Nintendo Thumb could ever be.

Excepting that Mario Party thing.

I had a friend hospitalized once due to Mario Party. He broke off the thumbpad part of the stick, and the stick itself penetrated deep into his hand.

And I don't see why there's such a thing as PlayStation thumb. It's my other four fingers that are uncomfortable with the PSX controller. As soon as I win the lottery, I'm getting a RetroCon controller. Yeah, baby!

I've heard of that happening to other people, too.

It's why there are no more rotating analog stick minigames in the sequels. Nintendo got sued over it, and had to issue protective gloves to people that had bought the game.

nintendo doesn't make kiddie games; their controllers, however, are meant only for children and people weakened by painkiller addictions.

Yeah, the Mario Party palm was pretty bad, but far worse was the damage those rotating games did to my controllers. I had to replace them all.

Space Harrier in Shenmue brought me to the point that I could barely feel my thumb and had little control in bending it. That's the only relatively serious game related injury I've had as far as I can remember.

IIDX gives me a pain similar to what most people call carpel tunnel (sp?). I also bust my thumb open playing Pop'n Music on an arcade controller. I was playing Super Metroid last night and got to an area that required you to learn how to wall jump. My thumbs began to ache and then not work. I had to pause for about 15 min and do something else. How Super Metroid made it more difficult to wall jump than the already hard wall jumping in Metroid II is beyond me.

I laugh at it.

Then I get over it.

It goes away after time. It is just repeat stress shit and it will go away if you don't do what is giving you repeat stress.

Or just learn how to properly do the thing that is giving you repeat stress (like typing). I also know that doctors are overly quick to hand out carpal tunnel awards to people.
