Well, some of it too is what kind of optimism you see about your own death.
I don't even mean that optimisic transhumanist hope you stick around 'til longevity tech works itself out, I mean "am I going to die on my own in a hospital or in some city, state, or global scale clataclysm, in which case who gives a fuck about dumb little site.
But then of course, even if a cataclysm doesn't get me, there might well be a cataclysm for the world in the future, and then we're back to square one.
Sigh. It's not enough that I'm an attention starved goober now, I want attention IN THE FUTURE too.
