More hard-drive noise related questions!

So. My current 150 GB hard drive is grinding like a drugged-up raver to a good bassline every time I boot up my computer. Interestingly enough, it only grinds and whirs while booting, and the grind/whir festival calms down as soon as I log in.

I have another 500 GB hard drive ready to install/format and all my data is backed up, but I'm basically just wondering does anyone know why it would be so noisy at startup, and yet totally silent and normal all other times, and how to fix it if possible? As you can imagine, Googling for "motherfucking noisy hard drive at startup" isn't exactly yielding results.

Record it, remix it and sell it as an avant-garde noise project.
