I am praying to Planet Meteo that Borders has this when I stop by later today.

As advertised in Edge #176: I like it when things look this nice.

The one picture from Rez that got printed in the magazine ad is stunning.

Bless my bookstore, they had it!

It's really nice, everybody, and has interesting little bits about various games' aesthetics from their art directors.

and what's in it? from the description it seems like it's mostly "current-gen" stuff that's in it, and i would love a book of 16-bit spritework.

$12.99, which is a little price-y, but it's from the uk and all, so i understand the added cost. Actually, looking at the cover, it says £8, so it's a little cheaper here than there, if the dollar-pound conversions are similar to where they were last time i was over there.

As for what's inside:

The inside of the front cover is a giant blow-up of Samus Aran in here Super Metroid days set against a jet-black background. Aside from that one instance and the pieces from iam8bit (none of which I had seen before and most of which are really neat) it is all current gen. I think most of the companies they got to contribute to this did it with the idea of promoting games that are out in the mass marketplace right now, with few exceptions. The notable exceptions are a two-page spread on Virtual On, four pages of Jet Set Radio, some Shenmue, and a nice piece on Rez, which opens the magazine.

Some of the cooler bits in there are from:
MotorStorm
Spore
Resident Evil 4
Gears of War
Okami
Killer7
Team Fortress 2
S.T.A.L.K.E.R.
Fight Night Round 3
and, believe it or not, Rayman Raving Rabbids

It's a neat mix of sketches, comic-style drawings, giant character designs, and promotional stuff.

Of some interest is that it proclaims to be a "Volume 1," so there might be some hope that they manage to compile some older stuff.

I decided to pick this up, along with EDGE File Vol 2 & 3 (I don't need number one since I own the first year of EDGE). Impressions will eventually follow!

Killer 7? Oh man, I'm totally there.

Also, as of a week ago £1 = $1.92, so yeah.
