From tonight's Super Paper Mario "HANDS ON":

Matt Casamassina wrote:
In our experience, the title tends to look better in 2D than it does in 3D and we've managed to (presumably) whip through what could be half of the title in about 10 hours, which suggests it might be too easy. The verdict on the latter notable is still out.

Seriously though, I go in expecting run-of-the-mill, blogger-type writing, and somehow I'm still let down. I stop and read something over three times, for some reason fascinated, trying to figure out what is so wrong with it. Sometimes it is blatantly bad, confusing writing, but other times he just picks the synonym with the wrong connotation. Either he doesn't care or he's really just completely oblivious to... language.

That doesn't even make sense.

I'm generally forgiving of poor style or grammar so long as meaning is preserved. Not so here, though!

It's like when you hear a little child say something that is grammatically correct and can be recognized as a sentence, but the content makes no sense because the child isn't trying to express an idea, but rather is rather just trying to mimic adults and the way they use language. That's IGN.

See, I'm pretty sure I know what he's saying, it's just that his opinion is fucking stupid. When you switch from 2D to 3D it doesn't look quite as good. Who cares?! And his second point is that the game is too easy because he's half way through it in 10 hours. But since when was an estimated 20 hours too short for a platformer?

I think the more important thing is you're more than halfway through at 10 hours in god hand and that's not an easy game at all.

Also, when is the game not in 3D? Do they just mean the control scheme? I think it looks really good both ways honestly.

Watch the videos dude. It's sort of like that Crush PSP game where you can switch from 2D to 3D at any time. I can see this looking sort of strange in 3D since all of the art assets are probably technically just a flat plane.

But again, I'm not sure why/how it would matter that the game doesn't look as good.

i'm just really worried that, what with the lack of a run button in a mario game, they will forget about momentum entirely.

i mean, it's supposed to be a platformer first and foremost, right?

How about the placement of "(presumably)" in the sentence? I think it's supposed to modify the guess about the game's length (which is redundant, because he also says "could be"), but instead it modifies "whip through."

Like, "presumably we're whipping through this game." Presumably... as opposed to what, taking your time? Reading Maxim? Whipping something else?

This doesn't bother me as much as his complaints about the game length of a 20 hour game. There's no danger that he's going to change the way people view grammar, but in a way his voice is representative of gaming culture, and if designers are told that 20 hour long games aren't good enough, rather than refining what's there and only including stuff that serves a purpose they'll start adding filler content to meet the requirements of reviewers .

It's very rare that people buy books, see movies, or buy music because they really like long books, movies, or music. Why should games be any different?

What I find sad is that I'm betting a bunch of IGNite readers will never play this game because their lord and prophet Matt said it didn't look great and was too short.

Ok, like, not only have I seen videos, but I have seen the game first hand and even played it.

Again, I ask, when is the game not in 3D?

About 80% of this video is 2D.

Nothing beats the time when IGN described a first-person shooter as third-person and spent paragraphs complaining about the camera and controls. When called on it, they put up, then removed, 'it's so boring it felt like a third-person game.'

Ah, Ivan. My friend can't stand that man, and with good reason. Even his 'normal' articles were on par with that.

Dude, all video is 2D. 3D monitors at a consumer level aren't viable yet.

Also, again,

I like how it implies that the verdict itself said it was going to go around the corner for cigarettes and you know, it should have been back already, it'll get back eventually, really honey.

Also, notable as a noun refers to an important person, not anything you consider worthy of note.

In my experience, he could be maybe referring to Mario as an important person (presumably). But the verdict on the latter notable is still out.

Sadly "the verdict on the latter notable is still out" sounds just about right for a Phoenix Wright localization.

So that's where they get their localization team.

Weird that he's using the first person plural to talk about playing a game. Is IGN really tag teaming it? Maybe that's why it is so easy. Presumably. Could be. In our experience, might be.

(The verdict is still out).
