Living in Winnipeg a couple of years ago, my wife and I rented Michael Palin's Pole to Pole, wherein the dude from Monty Python travels from the North Pole to the South Pole. It was there that we made the stunning discovery that Winnipeg will actually get colder than the South Pole. Granted, the coldest time of year for Winnipeg is the warmest time of year for the South Pole, but come on.

Perhaps the thermometers they have in the South Pole are located inside the only heated igloos and science camps they have stationed there.
