I have started to play this a few times, and I am having trouble getting past the way the game works in terms of control and objective. The way that paths branch is especially difficult for me to wrap my brain around. Do any of you folks who got a lot out of playing the game (Shaper?) have some tips for getting past the unusual interface?
I am not looking for thoughts on the game, or lectures on how it will be worth it or not worth it for me to try to play through. Just some basic suggestions will do. _________________ Like you thought you'd seen copter perverts before. They were nothing compared to this one. |

Killer 7 is basically Snatcher. Snatcher is really just an adventure game with action elements. So Killer 7 is basically really just an adventure game with action elements. And blood. And a really good sense of style.
Don't try to do everything. Just hold A a lot until the game poses a question to you. Sometimes that question is "how to deal with a badguy". Sometimes that question is "why is there a bloody head in the drying machine?". When you've figured out all of the little riddles, just sit back and look at the pretty graphics.
They didn't really have to even give you the freedom to move on your own. It's kind of interesting that they did, though. _________________ Wii #: 8749 9109 9732 3653

I'd even say that makes killer7 far more honest than most survival-horror games about its intentions. _________________ "This is the most fun I've ever had without being drenched in the blood of my enemies!" |

Most of the split paths aren't a big deal. Many of them lead to dead ends that can be unlocked at a later time. Some of them lead to puzzles that must be solved before progressing. It's standard RPG fare, actually: If you think the path you chose is the right one, turn around and go down the other one. Because it is a videogamey videogame, that wrong path probably has a treasure or a puzzle that rewards you with a treasure. Or a character to talk to for extra information.
Just run, stop when you hear a laugh, shoot, run some more. _________________

Yeah, a lot of this has been covered, but don't think of A as the run button, more like the "press A to enter the hall" button from adventure games of old. Rather than just instantly teleporting you there you have to hold the button sort of like if you were watching a movie and had to hold the play button, but when you encounter something that you can shoot at you stop pressing play and deal with it.
Alternativly you can try to judge the paths as the come up and hold the C-stick ealry so it will go right into that segment.
Just think of the A button like a play button for a video, that might help enough. _________________ “The average man has a secret desire to be a swaggering, drunken, fighting, raping swashbuckler.”

Loading times seems to be the popular reason when people say what is different between the two versions. _________________

Oh, I thought it's an on-rails FPS kinda thing?
And Snatcher is brilliant (barring the third act)! If Killer7's anything like it, what's with all the hate? Confounded expectations? |

According to the SB thread, it's actually quite popular. I'm just assuming there was a vocal minority. _________________

Don't worry, y'all. The GCN version is the one I own. I also find the controller fantastically comfortable. My thumbs always slip off of the PS2 sticks, and I have to stretch too much. And the buttons aren't big enough for me. This makes me feel wussy. _________________ Like you thought you'd seen copter perverts before. They were nothing compared to this one. |

Yeah, of all the benifits of the GC version (grapics and loading) the controller really is the key. It's kind of like RE4 where you can just tell that the unique controller was heavily taken into the through process of the control scheme. Particuallrly the c-stick. _________________ “The average man has a secret desire to be a swaggering, drunken, fighting, raping swashbuckler.”

I stopped playing Killer7 when I found myself doing lame Resident Evil eagle, snake, tortoise puzzles. It's Resident Evil but even less fun to control! And instead of the developers jumping out of a cupboard saying BOOGEDY BOOGEDY BOOGEDYwith a monster mask on they're jumping out and saying husshusshusshussssss with a cool t-shirt on while they slash their wrists. |

You people honestly prefer the Gamecube controller to the PS2?
Wowza. Maybe it is just because I am much more accustomed to the PS2 (which I played at least 95% more than my Gamecube) but I always found the Gamecube controller bulky and awkward. The PS2 controller - as far as traditional control schemes go - is perfect in my eyes. _________________ PSN: Twitch_City ||| Wii: 8083 5371 5767 6700

I find both controllers to be awkward, the GC's because of the bulk and bizarre layout, the PS2's because it's basically a gigantic "fuck you" to your hands. Even the original X-Box controller isn't that offensive. _________________ "This is the most fun I've ever had without being drenched in the blood of my enemies!" |

I only really appreciated the PS2 controller after I started playing Guilty Gear every day for months. |

I hate to break it to you, but I'm pretty sure you can't play GameCube games using the classic controller. I think you'd have to just use regular old GameCube controllers.

What?! Seriously? Oh, geez, that's absurd.
I mean, you can at least use the Wii/nunchuk, right? What about people who sold their GameCubes but still want to play GameCube games?
EDIT: Apparently not. How ridiculous!

You can use the Wavebird.
But the backwards compatability isn't *perfect*. By that I mean I know that Donkey Kong's Jungle Beat doesn't work. _________________ Wii #: 8749 9109 9732 3653

I've only tried two Gamecube games: Fire Emblem and Jungle Beat. One worked, one didn't. The only other thing that I think you might want to know is that I don't really like how my spice orange controller's cord loses a few inches bc it starts out pointing up. In fact, corded controllers in general stink in the Wii play area because usually you have a huge open space for the game.
Also, you have to use the remote to select the Gamecube game. Which is a slight inconvenience. _________________ Wii #: 8749 9109 9732 3653

This does blow. I'm hoping it's one of those things they can fix through one of their "updates." You can use the classic controller's analog stick to slowly move the cursor around the screen, but only if the pointer's not pointing at the screen. It's odd.

Well, the Gamecube is really a different beast than the Wii. Its functionality really does seem tacked on. I like playing the 'cube in my room alone on a tiny TV. Cords stretching over to my bed and lots and lots of blankets. I can't say the same thing with the Wii. _________________ Wii #: 8749 9109 9732 3653

i was under the impression that the bongos sent exactly the same signals a normal controller does, ala guitar hero. |

Donkey Kong Jungle Beat works just fine for me! There's Gameboy homebrew that can read the bongos if you've got it running on a Gameboy Player, so I don't see any technical reason why it wouldn't work.
The Wii is backwards compatible enough that GC homebrew hacks still work, even! |
