Random dumb history question:
When did people start talking about games in terms of having soul? And considering it an important, if tough to pin down, element.
Is it borowed from like, people who write and talk about music?
It reminds me of when I read "The Commitments", though ususally that book put it as "is soul" rather than "having soul".
(Or is it that tough to pin down? Can Soul-laden games come corporate tools, or is that how you tell that a game won't have it?) |

It seems to be a nostalgic concept. I know I've heard of such from some of the first arcade game players. It's funny how many people actually look at video games in a cultural light, if only due to their presence in their childhoods. There are far more than typically recognised. _________________ "This is the most fun I've ever had without being drenched in the blood of my enemies!" |

Huh. Plenty of old classic games had soul; I wonder what an early game that clearly didn't would be... possibly some of those Pac-clones? Any other specific titles come to mind? |

A deeper devotion to what by whom?
Like, faith that some games can touch a deeper level of experience than the casual observer might guess? |

I find it amusing how I've seen the same games called souless and said to have soul. It seems to be an arbitrary decision on the part of the author and they just have to hope their readers think of the same thing. _________________ | Little bird fighting against a bat sect game | |

all games have soul because the plastic and silicon of which they are wrought have soul because they are of the earth, and the people who envisioned and designed and programmed the games have soul, being similiarly of the earth.
thread is over. (this thread has soul.) _________________
