I'm interested in Steel Empire if it's cheap enough!

Well I have not sat down and directly compared the two, but now that I think about I would assume they are nearly identical. I just remember when I got Ultimate Qix being very dissapointed by the non-vector style graphics, and weirded out by the new graphics. And when I loaded Volfield on the Taito Legends pack, I was like "Ohhhh, ok...maybe."

yeah, none of the many clones of qix is really come close to the original's compellingly abstract motif. as a sequel by qix's original developers, though, volfied is pretty interesting in its own right. instead of stark abstraction, there's a theme of uncovering and moving through layers. the background that you uncover in each stage becomes the background of the next stage, and eventually you start uncovering bloodstreams, marrow, and the infinite.

it adds some new gameplay mechanics too. most notably the fact that when your line is touched by an enemy you're not instantly killed, but rather a pulse is sent along the line, allowing you to escape if you're far enough away. the pc-engine port doesn't retain this feature, but i'm glad to see the genesis version does.

I actually might, but they would probably be at my parents house. I may be going down there this weeked, and could dig a bit. Only guides I have here off the top of my head are one for GTA: San Andreas. Only one I know for sure at my folks is Wind Waker guide, and don't want to get rid of that. But unless I trashed em, I might have a surplus of guides that I got from back when I worked at Best Buy and guides got Pennied out all the time, as well as ones from GameStop that the dude would let me have when theirs got pennied out. But I have this feeling I may have chucked em' for some reason.
