Holy shit.

Supposedly you'll be able to buy it tomorrow at this website, but it's not coming up for me.

wait, wait, wait...

Is this what I think it is? I thought this was never going to happen or something?

Someone please give full details as to what is going on here.

Also, the Genesis version of this game still holds up quite well graphically. It is still very gorgeous.

The details are here.

Looks like they're doing a hi-res remake. Sweet. Wonder how much they'll charge for it!

I once had a friend who had a really cute drawing of the fang worm rearing up put on a black t-shirt, with the words SCARY SHIT written under it.

I wanted one.

Another World fascinates me, more so than Flashback! When I try to play it though, I get stuck somewhere near the beginning around the time you hit an elevator. I beat the first Oddworld and I couldn't hack it! The demo of the remake is really nice though.

I know it goes without saying but that was one of the most stylistically perfect games ever.

I remember articles thinking that 2D polygon animation were the way of the future but that never really came to pass.

A few games stick out in my head as having a certain transcendental grace, design wise. I think the original Pac-Man has that, "Another World" does... "Jet Grind Radio"..."Ico"... not too many others come to mind.

Come to think of it, all these games seem to be somehow ahead of their time... Pac-Man, to me, just ha an aesthetic beauty that other games of the era , like say Donkey Kong, didn't have. Another World was ahead of its time, JGR was a trendsetter, and Ico has a peculiar style that other games for the most part lack.

It's only 7 euros. I've already tried the demo, and I'm going to buy it.

The demo is, so I don't see why the full version wouldn't be.

As I recall, it always had been in English, even the French release. But my memory of said release has to do specifically with the SNES version, so I wouldn't know about the original one.

Well, I can't guarantee that Eric Chahi will show up, if that's what you're hoping for, but you're totally invited to my birthday party anyway.

Freely downloadable formative Eric Chahi games on the Amstrad! I am so grabbing these tonight. The Eric Chahi chronology is gorgeous, too.

According to the English site, the Collector's Edition of Another World features full English localization. Not that it matters because there's basically no text.

I've purchased the Collector's Edition yesterday, as a late birthday present and because I've got a suitable bank account now.

First thing I've noticed: Unsurprisingly, vectors age really well, and the graphical updates are subtle enough for the most part and are consistent with the world, so there's nothing jarring here. I suppose it does lose in the alienation department. Stark, simple colours like old games do naturally really do play a heavy part in making me feel estranged when I play a game, and I can't fully explain that. Even if it does worry you, you can select the older renders and backgrounds without a problem.

Second thing I've noticed: It's a Hell of a lot shorter than I remember it. Took me three quarters of an hour to beat. Makes sense: I knew how to solve the puzzles beforehand, as difficult as they were. It's not really a bad thing to notice, just a realisation.

I'd say it's worth the paltry sum of €7. It's still the gloriously art-film experience I remember it to be, and is exemplary of games doing what games do best, I feel: Creating new worlds to explore and escape in. The update makes it feel less alien, but more alive. Think of it as two ways to experience the same incident.
