Last year I had Aurora on my system, one of those damn malware programs that links random words on websites (like "as" and "the") and links them to online poker sites and porn, as well as throw out dozens of popups, and complained to the company behind it. It took me hours to remove it, using a combination of 3-4 different programs, nearly making my teeth bleed and head explode.
It turns out that the company kept my email.
I received an email from someone at Business Week asking for an interview, because a writer for the publication found my email address in a Word document. He has the file hosted as a PDF and, sure enough, there I am. I just said I would toast the day they went under, and something about screw you for wanting me to click on a thing saying I agreed to have it installed in the first place. I can see why he emailed me though, since the other emails ranged from violent to just insane - one mentions something about them being on par with shooting wheelchair-bound 14-year-old girls.
I find it odd, and slightly unsettling, that one of those companies that seems to be, and is, one of those faceless chopshop companies out of Eastern Europe (judging by their website) actually kept records of that. "Check out how many people hate us!" "Awesome!" _________________ Come to me, Mordel. We shall depart. |
