Sorry, but I just have to add: as a former GMR contributor, I will always hate GI. That is all.

I actually really like my copy of FILE Volume 1*. It's interesting to get into the head of the game industry circa fifteen years ago. Summary: It seems like developers were still pretty obsessed with the technology arms race, but were trying to push the limits of a lot of technology that wasn't graphics or physics. Like, there's an interview with Revolution, where they say their tech for Beneath A Steel Sky is way better than what LucasArts has, while at the same time recognizing that the impact the Virtual Theatre system has on the quality of the game is not huge. I find stuff like that really fascinating.

* In fact, I liked it so much that when my cat knocked my copy into the toilet, I bought it again ;_;

DAMN YOU I WANT THIS :-( :-(

I looked everywhere for it, too.

If you find the right Boarders you can walk into the store and buy it for $10.50. Last time I went to Boarders they had a copy of FILE, which is a "best of" kind of classics edition of old edge content. It's pretty sweet, and worth ever penny of the fairly cheap $12ish asking price. This edition covers the mid-90s. Ooooh.

I think you keep forgetting that I live in a different country? ALSO FILE :-( :-( :-(

Man, Lestrade, if you want I will walk into Barnes and Noble on the way home and buy you a copy.

Of course, in return I will require YOUR MORTAL SOUL.

That File issue sounds pretty good. Too bad there's no hope of finding it where I live.

I'm pretty sure Volume 1 is off the newsstands by now, but yeah, PM me if you want me to pick you up a copy. We'll work out PayPal or game trades or something.

Volume 1 is indeed off the newsstands (sorry Anna!), but Volume 2 looks fantastic. There's a huge spread devoted solely to French game developers, which just melts my black, icy heart.

Lestrade, I will try to get your copy in the mail posthaste!

Has anyone read gamesetwatch lately? apparently my magazine is trouble! thank goodness it's just something I do on the side, but I'd like to think of some new and radical ideas to help it out...
