I spent some more time with La Mulana and have come to enjoy it a little more. Is there any kind of basic walkthrough for this game? I mean, not like a full walkthrough but hint guide to point me in the right direction. Some of these puzzles are just so obtuse it's ridiculous. _________________ “The average man has a secret desire to be a swaggering, drunken, fighting, raping swashbuckler.”

The puzzles vary wildly. They start out a bit strange, get better, then get way, way worse toward the end. There's a big section in the endgame that's just completely unnecessary and forces you to go back to everywhere you've already been.
Of course, when I was playing the game, I was using a horribly butchered online translation of the then-Japanese-only guide, so that made it a little more frustrating. _________________

I think there's something wrong with that link because it says it's forbidden. _________________ “The average man has a secret desire to be a swaggering, drunken, fighting, raping swashbuckler.”

I finally finished Uncharted last night. As I've detailed elsewhere, it's the kind of game I don't really want to play again any time soon. It's the best-looking mediocre game I've played in a long time, though. There are so many little details and elements about the game that are so right, it's a shame they were used to put together such a safe, tepid experience. I actually rolled my eyes several times near the end.
Gorgeous title, though. I want all my characters to talk this much while I'm playing; it really adds a lot and helps build a connection with your little gun-toting avatar. |

Still playing a bit of Dragon Quarter, and I guess it's not so bad, still ugly, but the film grain effect helps a bit.
I suppose the most interesting thing about it is that, in a genre based on the limitless potential of characters, Dragon Quarter focuses on the finite. I'm not sure why it is held in such high regard, but I remember hearing that it was mercifully short, so I'll keep at it. _________________ Straight up |

Still weirdly obsessed with Earth Defense Force 2017.
I just posted a revamped weapons list I made to GameFAQs, though only in the message boards, it would probably get bounced as a stand alone submission (though I pinged the person who made the main weapons list there, on the offchance he wanted to embed it)
The core idea is I wanted to see when it was worth bumping up difficulties on levels to farm weapons; there's some strong ideas on how to cleverly farm on the msg forums, but I wanted to know when to usefully try my "snipe the UFOs" with Zero Laser Sniper trick.
It was kind of an interesting Tufte-ian challenge to organize the data. The basic list was easy enough, just removing the group-by-weapon-type, but then I tried to make it more clear by putting each difficulty in different column.
Sigh. I probably put more work into the Perl scripts to do that than it was worth... but still. Such is the life of the gaming geek. _________________ =/ \(<D)_/

been playing re4 on the wii. why can't a move while shooting? gah i don't like these controls. or the perspective. I'm coming to the conclusion that i don't like third person games (except mario 64). cue some jackass saying i don't like games in general!
ok, i've been playing it a bit more and it's getting better. grenades are your friend. I have plenty of money now and can buy any of the weapons on offer. what are the kind of things i want to be carrying around? _________________

Shotgun and pistol, until a rifle is offered. Quicker re-loads and bigger ammo clips are the best upgrades, in my view. _________________ Like you thought you'd seen copter perverts before. They were nothing compared to this one. |

Typing in a southern drawl I guess.
Cycle you're going to want a pistol, and a rifle for sure. Probably some sort of shotgun too. You don't have to buy the rifle until the second one becomes available though, and if you don't you're really kind of boned.
The TMP is fun, but it really is kind of useless on normal foes and really useful on bosses.
Shotgun is useful against crowds/up close enemies, pistol for weak, single targets, etc.
The rifle is pretty much the only long range weapon in the game, but it also SLAYS single targets.
You can buy a rocket launcher if you're not fond of actually fighting bosses. They're totally worth it to essentially buy your way past any given boss fight.
Um, anything else? The minethrower's fun. No word on whether or not it's actually good though.
Try to induce QTE kills on zombies as much as possible, and keep in mind that flash grenades kill the freaky plague mutant head zombie type dudes immediately. Also keep in mind that you can throw a grenade practically on your own feet and not get hurt by it.
The punisher handgun penetrates everything except for metal.
When you reach the big... thing... hanging from the ceiling, you can just unload on it and eventually it will just drop piles of treasure for you.
Invest in treasure maps, they give you more than they cost by a damn sight!
After the boss fight in the refinery or whatever it is, go back into the room after the cutscene to collect your phat lewt.
And I think that's pretty much it for RE4 tips. That I know of. It really is a superb game though. _________________

So I played RE4 some more. I'm in the Castle now. I'm starting to lose interest! It's pretty tedious getting constantly swamped by enemies in between solving silly puzzles. I don't know how much longer I'll play it. _________________

i've resumed playing dungeon siege. for a while i was concerned i'd completely lost my savegame halfway through the classic campaign, and started a new game in Aranna, then found out i have a different command to play the classic game. (do note i've been somewhat feverish lately).
it's a fun game, though i'm having this weird texture issue where half my party members get fuchsia-and-terrain wrapped around their bodies and armour. it's not really killing my enjoyment though.
LoA adds a lot of new spells and gear, but I've had trouble finding a lot of the spells I remembered from the classic game. My main character's a Combat magic specialist, but I haven't been able to create the same acid fog chaingun effect that I used to be able to. I get booby traps now, so it's sort of a fair trade.
For those unfamiliar to the game: Dungeon Siege is basically just that, though there are some overland environments. You begin with just yourself, though both campaigns saddle you with a companion character (who is equipped and has the base statistics to do basically anything) very soon, and from there your party grows. In some ways it's a lot like Diablo meets Morrowind, in that your basic gameplay is very classic Diablo - everyone can ultimately use the same weapons, the same spells, etc but rather than having a level progression you build your skills through skill use. Thus, your melee combatants build up their strength and combat skill very quickly, while your mages get brainier and brainier, but if necessary you can hand any mage a sledgehammer and set them swinging. It's usually good to do that periodically as some of the better armour can only be used with decent strength.
I'm also still playing City of Heroes. There's apparently a great deal of expansion in the pipe for the Valentine's Day event. I can throw rice and propose to random people! _________________

I can't recognise that if I haven't played the whole game!
The village really was pretty awesome, though. The castle just isn't very interesting. _________________

Is this actual endorsement? Because, from what I remember of the demo, Racers was pretty horrendous.
I am actually interested in Monsters - is it worth a purchase? Especially if one is not really familiar with Tower Defense? _________________ PSN: Twitch_City ||| Wii: 8083 5371 5767 6700

Probably the less familiar with Tower Defense the better. And, yeah, Racers is pretty bad, and Monsters is fun/addicting with (as my mother described) cute-sy graphics!
EDIT: Also, as of right now it's on sale for $8 because I bought it today and it told me it was for a special price. _________________ “The average man has a secret desire to be a swaggering, drunken, fighting, raping swashbuckler.”

Although after the castle you may as well be playing Splinter fucking Cell, it doesn't feel like a Resident Evil game at all.
This is why I'm not excited about Resident Evil 5, because it's probably going to be just the same- a promising premise, and then halfway through they'll get bored and something stupid will happen. A giant mechanical spider with a midget dressed as Napoleon riding it will appear, or something.
I dunno if I already said on here about my theory that Resi 4 stops being interesting as soon as that shopkeeper turns up, but there it is again. Because you're never stuck for ammo and guns and no longer at the mercy of the environment, the thrill and excitement goes away and after that all they can do is throw bigger and bigger monsters at you, and fucking 'find the eagle crest' puzzles. That's also when I stopped playing Killer 7, when it started making me do Eagle/Turtle/Snake/Tiger puzzles like it's 1997 and I'm playing Resident Evil 2 again. 'I thought this game was meant to be clever?' was what i thought at the time. So yeah in conclusion please put me in charge of all the world's game companies. |

Actually, the fact that it WASN'T like RE was why Iiked it! I enjoyed the first RE, the others, not so much. The castle is way too RE-ish.
Anyway, I stopped playing that game for the moment and started Metroid Prime 3. Have all the Metroid Prime games been so zelda-y? This one sure as heck is. It's been ok though, it's been fun, but it just isn't very Metroidy. I still think Retro should drop this series and come up with something original, I think it would benefit them to start with a clean slate. I still need to play the first Prime, but if it's good as I hear, I hope they port it to wii!
Also, I also finally did it.
I...
I...
I STARTED A NEW GAME OF EARTHBOUND.
Will this game hold up to my HATE EVERYTHING standards? I sure as heck hope so!
EDIT: Les, fix your sig already. _________________

Cycle if you don't like Earthbound we can't be friends any more. If it makes it easier, you should bind a key to 'speed up' in your emulator and set the battles to 'auto', that way you can fast forward through all the boring turn-based fighting. |

And yeah, I really like the game a lot. I've been playing pretty much just it and Picross lately (my Xbox is in the shop, but honestly, aside from Rock Band, I'm not missin' it much).

Oh! I finished Half Life 2 the other day. I felt like the game was at a climax for the last six hours leading into the final boss. The final boss, by the way, is a damn shame after everything that comes before. Hop on the moving pistons to shoot some white floaty thing before time runs out? No, thank you. _________________ Like you thought you'd seen copter perverts before. They were nothing compared to this one. |

I would say Uncharted, Pixel Junk Monsters, and Everyday Shooter are the must-haves, followed closely by Ratchet and Clank (which is much better than the demo makes it seem). Apart from that, Unreal Tournament 3, Ridge Racer 7, Flow, Heavenly Sword, and a few of the geometry wars clones were pretty great. Haven't really dug much else though.

Um, those puzzle were kinda meant to be a joke on the whole Resident Evil style of stupid bullshit puzzle. Hence why all the pieces have the same name and such. The game just acknowledges how useless those puzzles are. |

Yeah, everything that's shitty in Killer7 is actually just a satire of things that are shitty. Man if Suda51 came to your house and pissed his pants you guys would say it was a satire of people who piss their pants. |

How do you determine what is and isn't a satire? I think ahving a bunch of items that looks different but all have the same function and name is a pretty apparent satire, but whatever. |
