i'm actually curious how they got the demographic information that underlies this poll's premise. maybe they just assumed it had to be the case since they're a videogame site? maybe they took a poll. _________________

You want to see UK gaming forums! At NTSC-UK (which styled itself as a British Insert Credit) they had a 'Wench Thread' where you were to post NSFW pictures of women. Like if you thought the boy's club atmosphere was overt on American gaming forums, it's nothing compared what we have over here. |

Ah, I forgot those fine details, how foolish of me. Yes, you are correct. Truly these are the roles destined for women!
Hah, women gamers, just the thought of it is enough to put me into a state of hysteria. |

that picture is pretty hot
i used to read the top ten posts at gamefaqs daily because i thought they were so stupid, and an eFriend did the same thing and we discussed them! we were both pretty happy when a list that didn't suck appeared.
also, man, i've seen what happens to females who post on the message boards at gamefaqs. it's quite scary. _________________

maybe i should join myface.
i remember back when i played AVARA there was this guy called stark who pretended to be a chick and SEDUCED and CYERSEXED a guy called missileman (he'd never live this down) and when asked why he did, he said it was a "social experiment".
right. the guy was also a compulsive liar and total nutjob. and he kept trying to sex the real ladies who played the game, with hilarious results.
those were the days. _________________

there are a number of people who think I'm a guy too!
though, to be fair I rarely specify a gender. And happen to be physiologically male.
But the initial assumption is, typically, that a speaker on the internuts is teste-equipped. _________________

sorry, was explaining my deep and complex point of view regarding a subject with no real social merit and with likely no ultimate effect on the game in question on the City of Heroes forums.
anyway, uh, it pleases me that you're not going to judge me for being a transgendered individual! it has historically been quite a turnoff for most of my dates. _________________

Daphaknee I did not know you were a female! Though I guess your name is basically "Daphnee" with an extra "a" and a leg-joint.
Anyway, I initially thought thought dess was a female so I guess my gender-guess-o-meter needs to be recalibrated? Or maybe it's spot-on?
Sediment, I hope you were asking them to make some actual useful and enjoyable reason to get to the CoH/CoV end-game? _________________

Anyway, the whole idea of treating gamers differently because they are girls is inherently retarded to me, and girls who demand special treatment or validation just because they play video games are just as culpable as the boys-who-constantly-ask-for-nude-pics that those game-playing girls denigrate. Treating someone differently because of their gender is still sexism whichever way you slice it.
Cycle, sometimes I feel like you keep egging me on to make inane one-line posts but then I realise I actually enjoy it and I don't know what to think. So I sip gently at my cup-a-soup and while away the workday. _________________

i'm lobbying for a complete toss of a new stalker set so it can be remade to better fit stalkers. the set is actually really interesting and fun for the other archetypes that get it - it being dual blades, a very fast, very endurance-intensive but combo-heavy and rewarding set for the sustained combatant - but for stalkers it's plodding and kind of dumb.
they recently added a significant amount of things to do at endgame, actually! perhaps not enough, but at least it's not all raid content. there's a new system that allows you to replay content from the levels up to your current range with increased difficulty and various complications, and it's pretty entertaining. especially since the badges associated with it are very cute - going at it without inspirations, for example, earns you titles like "dull," "unimaginative," or "coffee break." _________________

Hmm dual blades. Has that dropped yet, or is it still on the test server only? I never got around to joining the test server because I didn't want my shit to get wiped at the drop of a hat! Plus the CoV early game is so boring after having done it a thousand times I wouldn't want to do it again just because the developers decided something wasn't working. I guess I'll stop wussing out one day and give it a shot though!
Is that system you speak of that Ourorobos dealie? It looked interesting when I saw it coming up.
To be honest the real reason I dropped City of Villains as anything but a casual game was because of the sheer stale repetitiveness of the whole system. It's very fun with a group of people and stupid characters, and I like it a lot more than World of Warcraft but it's so stale and uncustomisable in terms of gameplay and it gets boring after a while (Which is when I make a new character and start again!). I'd really like them to introduce a larger variety of new skills, or some way of making the missions more interesting and varied. As it stands though I like it a lot, I just have to play it in small doses with good people and can't long-haul it anymore. _________________

it's out. And yep, it's Ouroborous. It's pretty sweet!
you may have missed a free city of heroes expansion if you were villains-only, btw, as a celebratory act of ncsoft fully acquiring City of Whatevers (rather than splitting the IP with Cryptic) they gave "the other side" to everyone who didn't already have it a bit ago. I think it was for accounts active on the 7th.
They honestly don't wipe test that often! I have had a couple characters active on test for over a year now. _________________

It's worth remembering that I'm pretty thick sometimes.
And I seriously like, never even consider genders unless someone brings them up. It's weird as all-fuck. _________________

earrings work best.
edit: i would be interested in seeing a large-scale study of game players and a good old fashioned demographic breakdown. then we can move onto the issues of race and income and whatnot and check them against hours played and other semi-objective measures and work them against their own self-evaluations of the seriousness of their involvement with games.
that'd be cool. _________________

only if you push hard enough.
ok people enough with the softballs.
to follow up on my followup, what's everyone's guess at:
1) the male/female visitor ratio of gamefaqs
2) the male/female forum reader ratio
2) the male/female forum poster ratio
i would like to think the male female visitor ratio would be 0% for everyone but that seems unlikely.
(my guess for all three is who knows but if you held a gun to my head i'd guess 70/30, 80/20 and 90/10 respectively.)
doubledit: meant to post this before but you've all seen the fucking ridiculous dork rage piledriver of sexual frustration directed at the assassin's creed lady, right? _________________

Are we talking about Jade Raymond? Because I can totally imagine that. The amount of hype that the company has indirectly encouraged around the "omg we have a hot producer chick" angle is pretty disturbing. Especially so since apparently she hates the whole thing and does her best just to get on with doing her job. I guess she can't feel too exploited though since she's still working there.
Anyway, I haven't seen any specific threads/posts of furious masturbation over her but I'm sure they exist. Links? _________________

well, i must say it's not much different than the amount of screentime you see with gametrailers and other devs.

On the whole I have to say I do not understand the obscure relationship between TGQ, SB and IC. I only get the TGQ wavelength of the spectrum so all this inter-forum hate and bitching and glorious camradarie is totally over my head. And people have shiny custom titles or little icons in place of their hearts sometimes! I don't even know. _________________
