the myth of the rational voter is highly recommended, though i had to tap some of my statistically-minded friends to help me understand one chart near the middle.
there are two approaches to writing counterintuitive iconoclasm. you either seduce or destroy. this is not a seduce approach. _________________

I got to see this debate. It's really entertaining to see a new theory overpower an old one. Wittman took the main survey Caplan uses as evidence, looked at the questions a bit, and said, "I don't see too much difference between economist and non-economist beliefs." Caplan got up and responded, "Uh, this isn't something you can just eyeball and say 'close enough.' You have to do some actual statistics to it. Here they are. Besides, in his book, Wittman argued that their beliefs should be the same, not 'close enough.'" The debate was pretty much over right there. _________________
