I heard it on my travels in japan from a reputable source. You can choose not to believe it if you want, but it is certainly a DELICIOUS RUMOUR

you can tell your source, mister carries-notes-between-angry-parents, that i don't dislike your source, i'm just going to think twice about accepting a rumor from him as fact.

My source also tells me that Bioshock-hating games reviewer Ben 'Yahtzee' Crosshaw was an uncredited consultant on the game Bioshock.

Hey guys, word on the street is that Umihara Kawaze is coming out in the US. The street is Jeremy Parish, and the new name and publisher are Yumi's Odd Odyssey, and Natsume. Too bad it's the (apparently shitty) PSP version!

Didn't get far in Dead Rising, or maybe just didn't get it, but big static pools of zombies standing there didn't grab me.

kirk, I kind of have to agree with the other two posters: dead rising is spot on with the zombies. Especially if you made it though the regular mode. By the end there's so many it doesn't matter how slow they move, you're going to get eaten (or sexually harassed to death).

Zombies should never run. They are rotting corpses, they'd just fall apart. Running zombies are stupid.

Dead Rising is almost a pushing-past-zombies-on-the-way-to-other-things game. They're there if you want them- if you don't, run past. They're like the bushes in Zelda.

Even though I don't care about the game, EA had a pretty clever retort to a glitch.

Cycle here are two of your most favorite things, together at last: Heather Campbell writing for Actionbutton.net

I draw your attention to this because I am particularly proud of the shitty analogy I made regarding why Street Fighter III was alienating to fans of Street Fighter II:

Quote:

I do think a big reason for the game’s commercial failure is that players were turned off by the fact that they didn’t recognise any of the characters. Instead of the eight or so iconic, markedly different characters that made a brand, you’ve got like a huge mess of dudes including 8 karate/kung fu/ninjitsu guys and maybe three who just don’t make sense. Even if you pick good ol’ Ryu the chances are you’re going to get him in a purple suit or some shit.

It’s like turning on the new series of Scooby Doo and finding the gang has been replaced by like 20 dudes, six of whom are just Freddy with different colored neckerchiefs and haircuts, and one of whom is just a plate of breakfast arranged into a face floating in the air. Also Scooby Doo isn’t in it. It’s pretty much guaranteed to alienate anyone who ever liked Scooby Doo. They’re still solving mysteries and getting up to antics, though! I would watch it, but it’s pretty obvious why most people won’t.

Also here is another one! It's also a lot like Prince releasing 200 dumb-ass albums in the 90's. After a hundred medocre albums, people had kind of given up on buying Prince albums by the time he actually released a half-decent one. Similarly, Streetfighter's mainstream audience had grown tired of the franchise due to all the countless interations of Alpha Hyper Turbo EX whatever. In giving every iteration of the game a home release, they flooded the market.

Let me know when that has a release date.

Also James, I agree with you. I always felt that was the reason that SF3:TS was mostly ignored: it was released after the IP had lost all meaning to most people. Hell, it even took me over a year to really pick up on the game and give it a proper shot.

Thanks!

Worms really arrested the development of the Death Tank genre. I'm glad people are bringing it back. There was a version of that game hidden on Saturn Duke Nukem 3D which was more fun than actual Duke Nukem.

So, is it just Gradius 1 inside the Gradius Gaiden engine? Or do they do something more with it after the first stage. Because if that's all it is I have to say that I'm honestly a little disappointed.

I wonder why they changed all the music.

I really like the music, but I'm going to have to agree with shaper, beyond that. "Gradius... with a twist!" has been the modus operandi of pretty much the entire series outside of V.

There are also apparently only five stages.

The X-Com collection is now on Steam. 2K is said to have worked with the dosbox developers to launch a certain version of the program when you load one of the titles so they won't blow up on modern systems. The set is on sale right now for $13.95.

I will probably buy it, but I end up buying all sorts of shit on Steam and completely forgetting that I even own it. I think I use Steam to talk to Shaper more than I do to play games. So it seems that Shaper > id Collection.

Awesome!

Also, I picked up the Xcom collection while intoxicated because... well I hear so many good things about it. And yeah, I get the same feeling that I got from the Terrors From the Deep: I feel like I'm missing a tutorial.

Do any of these games have a tutorial? I have no idea if how I'm playing is right.
