There's video of Rhythm Tengoku DS, too. The choir game looks excellent!

http://kr.youtube.com/watch?v=GgaymhCr_tI

I'm just watching Nintendo's conference where they show Wii Sports resort. I don't understand all the fanboy goodwill toward Reggie, since he looks like a Frankenstien and says stuff like 'WII SPORTS RESORT GENERATES FUN IN THE SUN WITH A VARIETY OF ACTIVITIES.'

I wish I could work out how you add captions onto youtube videos because there's a bit where he beats someone in swordfighting and says 'See! THAT'S why they call me The Regginator!' and I wanted to put 'no, they call you that because you resemble a movie monster.'

The press kits, by the way, are my favorite part of E3. I like seeing hi-res versions of all the promotional art.

Rhythm Tengoku's artwork folder is worth the download, if only because there's some good avatar-making fodder in there. It's almost confrontationally stark, too! It certainly doesn't look like the promotional artwork for anything else.

The character renders for Mario Super Sluggers are bright and round and colourful and like falling into a ball pit. They don't break the mold at ALL. It's almost refreshing. The characters look like they belong on the same page as each other for the first time in a while, too. I saw the first picture of Mario and said AWW instead of my usual BLEAH. I'm glad they've mostly stopped giving him frowny facial expressions.

The Wario Land folder has some cool stuff. Some of the little enemies look quite iconic and timeless, like the Dr. Mario viruses or Pacman ghosts. They look as though they've been part of the series forever. There's a really nice fish-eye perspective drawing of the world he lives in which reminds me of classic old Mario box art. The art is by production IG, although you wouldn't know to look at it since they've mostly stayed very faithful and on-model to the old gameboy box-art style. Although there is a character in there who looks like Dick Drill from Dead Leaves.

Square always give you the original photoshop files of their promo art in their press packs, so you can mess around turning off layers and whatnot. The art is not really up to much this time around, though.

Samba De Amigo doesn't have any 2D art Sad

finally, a rape simulator for the ds.

okay, it's possible that "half-elf" is a consenting participant in what's going on in that touch screen. and the fact that it's obviously fantasy does imply consent in so much as the game is, by its nature, role-play at the very most. but still. go out and meet people, geez.

Man, Bioshock is only $15 this weekend on steam... and that's kind of the perfect price to pick it up for the PC. I'm debating on getting it even though I have the 360 version, and I don't think it lived up to its potential. Perhaps it'll feel different on the PC.

No, they were girls' comics

So far my favorite has been the Salaryman comics I saw in the noodle bar which were all about wacky boardroom meetings, mountain climbing, and rice farming.

Nice job being a NEGATIVE NANCY, Dess. The last game he worked on was Sands of Time, before the series was all emo-ed up.

Go Beyllium! is eating away at my soul. I can't beat the first boss - it's driving me nuts! I beat it once, and died basically at the exact same time.

The sound design is -perfect-.

EDIT: I made it to level 2. I feel like a God.

i've only played spectrum spelunker, and i quit it out of boredom, which is the worst thing a game can make me do. it really needs to ramp up a bit faster - i'd probably start tossing out grey blocks in the first level. i'm also not sure about the color change mechanic. maybe if there were only two colors, so i'd always know which color i was switching to (and so the color i was switching to would always, consequently, be the color i wanted to switch to). that's the problem with all color-change mechanics, though, save ikaruga's.

when does the next shindig start? i wanna enter.

I had that same problem with it. After going for a bit, I felt like, "Why am I even doing this?" and quit. I just seemed to be progressing along in whatever way I wanted and there were basically no limitations, and it didn't feel challenging at all. Then I'd slow down a bit, start to get stuck and panic shuffling between the colours.

I think having only two colours to shoot with would be a really good solution to that, because I had enough trouble figuring out in my mind what I even wanted to shoot at any given time, let alone then trying to get that same colour to shoot with.

Guys, I'm cleaning out my BOOKMARKS since there is lots of stuff I bookmarked for some reason and never went back to the website. I'm going to dump them here just in case I want to find them again.

http://www.7crows.com/main.html

Blog of one of the Deus Ex writers. Hasn't been updated for awhile, but it has a few insightful tidbits regarding Deus Ex (including a link to an almost complete script of the entire game) and a few other things he's worked on/enjoyed.

http://amigareviews.classicgaming.gamespy.com/alien3d2.htm

Second half of the page has that famous Alien Breed 3D 2 review (from the last issue of Amiga Power who had a long fued with Team 17) that slams it in the body text but gives it a super high rating and glowing praise in the verdict box. Apparently the head of Team 17 called them up and thanked them for the review, obviously before he read the actual review. Interesting experiment with review scores, really! This website is a great place to find old Amiga reviews, just FYI.

Mischief Makers top 100 indie games.

http://www.geocities.com/jim_bowery/spasim.html

A nice, long article on what this guy claims to be the FIRST NETWORKABLE FPS. The guy even offers $500 to anyone who can find an earlier example. Someone found one (Maze Wars) but of course he was all like IT DOESN'T MEET MY CRITERIA!!! or some nonsense, but the rest of the article is interesting enough. Here is a nice site dedicated to Maze Wars: http://www.digibarn.com/history/04-VCF7-MazeWar/stories/colley.html

http://www.gamasutra.com/features/designers_notebook/20000915/adams_01.htm

A long, intelligent looking piece on Sex in Videogames, a subject I'm quite interested in! I still haven't read the whole thing, I should try to do that tonight.

http://www.deadhunt.com/

An indie FPS. It's pretty much a first-person Crimson Land or such... it doesn't work very well in the perspective, as the demo reveals. But it's still interesting to see. Interesting enough for me to bookmark the site, anyway.

http://www.escapistmagazine.com/articles/view/issues/issue_7/43-From-94-to-Infinity-Before-Halo.2

A Marathon article in Escapist. I remember reading this and thinking a much more interesting article could be written... so yeah, it's one of the reasons I started writing my one which I keep getting distracted from (it would probably help if the magazine it was for didn't appear dead, though) This article DID get Kirkpatrick out of hiding, though, so that's cool.

http://theangrypixel.com/blog/2008/01/25/an-impossibly-immortal-defense-aka-why-we-were-wrong/

I think I posted this already, but I really should get around to playing/buying Immortal Defense and seeing what the hubbub is about.

Famous last words... some really idiotic quotes from game developers. The most are from Tim Zito, the man behind Digital Pictures. Some gold right here.

http://www.eurogamer.net/article.php?article_id=70000&page=all

Bluffer's Guide to Xbox Cult Classics. Too bad 98% of them are 360 incompatible. There are some interesting games listed here.

http://bsixcentdouze.free.fr/tc/tgm-en/tgm.html

A very nice eassy on TETRIS GRAND MASTER.

http://www.virtualapple.org/

Virtual Apple, the online Apple II emulator, sure has come a fair way since I last checked on it!

http://www.nanoflix.net/

An AWARD WINNING machinema starring THE GUY WHO PLAYS TEX MURPHY. I remember watching the trailer for it and not being too impressed, but I've heard positive things? I don't know.

Brandon has an interview with Sega of America CEO Simon Jeffery where Jeffery notes that Yu Suzuki is off in China doing a racer and not really with the company - WAIT! he's a creative officer. Gigantic frown. He also mentions that Secret Level is probably kinda should be capable of making games that score in the 80s, but they'll never be a triple A team. He notes Creative Assembly as a headliner, which has the sales but has also completely fucked up the Total War series with their last two releases.

there's this show called bytejacker. i have no idea who pays for it. the host is apparently an ex-g4 guy, and they spend a few minutes of each (weekly) show talking about indie games.

annie's in it this week.

It's actually shooter. I don't know where the C comes from. It's an abbreviation for Shoot 'em Up.

But yeah, the word is not supposed to be spoken aloud.

EDIT: OK I watched that crappy show. That was terrible. I have nothing positive to say about it. I hope everyone who plays your game found out about it from some better form of information and entertainment.

Oh yeah, so, I heard this recently. How's this for news:

Someone who worked on Mother 3 (the guy who did the music, in fact!) says Nintendo has had that game professionally translated into all major European languages and ready to go since two weeks after its release in Japan. Nintendo of Europe and America didn't release it because they ultimately decided the game's content was too hot and too controversial.

Personally, I always assumed Nintendo's reasons for not releasing it were simply financial and quite ordinary, so I'm surprised to discover this is the case. Makes me want to play it even more!

i always thought it was partly both. i'm surprised to hear that there was a translation done, though. do you have a source? this is the AUTHENTIC LINK DUMP THREAD, not AUTHENTIC HEARSAY THREAD, and that'd be pretty fucking outrageous if it were true.
