i like that it seems to be taking the same tack as the hopelessly overlooked galaga arrangement: elaborate, mathematically beautiful patterns of invaders. _________________

I always seem to be the last person to find out about these things, but the ever-wonderful EYEZMAZE has made another entry in his 'Grow' series, Grow Island. http://shingakunet.com/special/16608701/0285/index.html
It doesn't break the mold, but as long as he keeps making these I'll keep playing them. |

http://kotaku.com/5025630/dont-be-surprised-if-there-are-re5-controls-surprises
RE5 may ditch RE4's control scheme for a Gears of War type system. This doesn't sound good to me, and is precisely what I feared would happen without Mikami's involvement.
The current demo still has RE4 controls. I haven't actually played Gears, so I don't want to criticize it, but I thought RE4's control scheme was perfect. Does every game need a cover system these days?
E3 so far has been pretty disappointing. Fallout 3 looks pretty underwhelming and now this. The worst part (for me) is that I'm sure I'm in the minority and so I doubt I'll be happy with the way things turn out. |

I was just browsing though MMOsite.com and I just saw that perfect world is having a closed beta for the US version. This is pretty cool because I played the Malaysia version and it was cool but it had such broken English and the lag was horrible. This version is gonna be completely translated to English and the servers will be hosted here. Check it out if your interested. Registration hasn't started yet though. All the info I could find is listed below.

Gears of War's control system owed a lot to RE4, so I guess it's only fair they take something back.

I really wanted like, a ROLL or something like that in RE4. I got frustrated not being able to move at all while shooting. _________________

Well, you could say that Pac-Man CE was the first true sequel to Pac-Man. Ms., Jr., and all are mostly expansion packs. _________________

What about Pac-Man 2: The New Adventures!
I actually quite liked some of the Pac-Man sequels that weren't related to his family, like Super Pac-Man. HE COULD TURN INTO GIANT PAC-MAN, just like in the cutscenes in the first game!
I wouldn't see Pac-Man C.E is a sequel, too. More of a... championship edition. _________________

in fact, i have said that. but i don't know that i'd consider galaga 88 or, hell, gaplus to be ms. pac-mans. _________________

Ms Pac Man was pretty good. Pretty much an improvement on the original in most every way. I would call it a sequel even if it was just a hack to begin with. _________________ Signature:

It's not really much of a leap over Pac-man, though!
I thought the first true sequel to Pac-man would be something like Pac 'n' Pal or something like that. I mean it's not very good, but it is at least an attempt at overhauling the game mechanic and creating comething fresh.

Then I suppose the first real sequel to DooM would be DooM 64, which was done by Midway just like Ms Pacman. _________________ Signature:

Did Iwatani work on any of the Pac-Man follow-ups before CE?
Did anyone on the new Galaga game work on the original? And isn't Galaga a sequel to Galaxian anyway? _________________

ms. pac-man was by general computer blackmailing midway, if you want to get technical.
and the honest impression i've gotten is that iwatani's involvement in championship edition was limited to a title. _________________

Did I mention I met the director of the Pac-Man World games? He was this big Australian bloke who couldn't give two shits about the games he was making. Also he called me a 'wanker'. |

I dunno, it sounds good to me. I don't think that the first Dead Rising was this perfect, shining paradigm of game design in the first place. Neither the story mode or the endless mode really worked all that well. The most fun I had with that game was playing the demo.
As for the camera, it's a pity it's gone but I'm sure you won't miss it when you're playing. I'm interested to see how they'll pull it off! And I'm very glad it's coming to the wii in some form or another.

Rhythm Tengoku GOLD for DS!
According to what it says there, it is apparently the same game, essentially, with no new rules or complex controls, BUT it involves the touch pen this time. I have no idea if it will allow you to use the pen and/or the buttons.
Click on the big grey buttons at the bottom to see screenshots of the new levels. The Easter Island one looks great!
This might be the first game I have really, truly looked forward to all year! |

That DO SUBMISSIONS TO PROGRESS the story stuff sounds pretty dumb to me! The lack of a camera is also unfortunate, but I still think this could be interesting.

i was hesitant about rhythm tengoku gold until it was revealed that the game would be played in the "book" orientation. i think my greatest fear for the game was that (like too many ds games) it would have lots of wasted space. i think the narrower width of each screen in book mode makes it harder to misuse screen space. maybe i'm crazy.
the game looks absolutely devoid of clutter, though. left screen given up entirely to the display, right screen given up entirely to the touch controls.
i'm glad rhythm tengoku's taken off, because warioware hit a conceptual brick wall with the first place. actually, the only place they really could have taken it was a multiplayer game, AND THEY TOTALLY SCREWED THAT UP. it's like someone at nintendo said OKAY I'LL SKIP LUNCH TODAY, HERE'S THE BUDGET FOR MEGA PARTY GAMES. _________________

Yes... I don't really know what the deal with that 3D table tennis one is. I hope that isn't one of the levels. |

the problem with mega party games is IT'S JUST THAT ONE MODE that has actual mutli-player games, and there are only that handful of them. most of the modes are just ONE PERSON PLAYS A WARIOWARE GAME WHILE EVERYONE ELSE WATCHES. what it really should have been was a giant collection of five-second-long multiplayer games.
that STAND ON PEOPLE'S HEADS TO SNATCH MONEY game is PERFECT.
i think the table tennis one actually looks really good. polygons are easy to make ugly, and i think these fit the game's style well. _________________

I dunno, I don't really think it fits the games usual style, and looking at the other screenshots available, it seems to me that they are sticking with that style for the most part.
That said, Rhythm Tengoku's levels have always varied a lot in style - it's one the great things about the game! So maybe I should be more forgiving. Hopefully, I'll be playing the game shortly and I'll be able to see how I feel about it as it sits there in my hands. |

I'm actually really excited about this. Mostly I am intensely interested to see just how Capcom is going to pull this off. I'm fascinated by the whole idea, and new information can't come sooner, as far as I'm concerned.

N key. But it's tiny, there's no radar, and no sound cues, so if it's actually meant to be playable I haven't picked up on how. |

Yeah, I was going to basically say the same thing. I find the game highly unplayable. _________________ “The average man has a secret desire to be a swaggering, drunken, fighting, raping swashbuckler.”

I'm very skeptical on this port. What they suggest would drastically differ with the whole entire flow of the game, I suppose that is the idea though. I hope they plan on seriously changing the way the missions were structured, all the boss battles and survivor rescues kind of lose their punch when you can do them at your leisure. |

What you have to remember is that the structure of and flow of Dead Rising was no great shakes to begin with, so I'm open-minded about any changes they want to make. The old version is still there if you want to play it!
Hey look, the robot you build in Rhythm Tengoku Gold looks a bit like Mikey, the Robo-Karaoke Machine.
