That's... wow. I really have no damn clue what to say. Like, I won't watch it, but I'll give it a try. How are you going to distribute this? YouTube?
I don't have any recomendations for you, but I'm sure it's going to tax the hell out of your PC. _________________ “The average man has a secret desire to be a swaggering, drunken, fighting, raping swashbuckler.”

Yeah, youtube. Or google video? You know, whatever. I never got tired of watching DeceasedCrab's "Let's Play La-Mulana" videos, or any of his others, and I never get tired of playing DWVII, so why not?
Calling Dess to thread? Google isn't helping too much because most software is crap. _________________

Never mind, looks like I found a solution. For future reference, CamStudio with the lossless codec. Now I just need to adjust settings until I fix some framerate issues. Unfortunately I'll have to crank my speakers to capture both my commentary and the game's sound. I should have a couple videos up tonight. I'm going to record large segments and just divide them into parts. Also need to clear some hard drive space, these videos are gonna be mad huge to begin with. _________________

Woo!
Having some trouble with the recording. Video's not playing in anything but the recording program's player. Also, they are turning out at 1.6 GB for 5 minutes. I know videos are supposed to be all big uncompressed, but damn!
I'll try again tomorrow. Right now it's late and I can't be loud. _________________

Thought I had everything working out perfectly, but nooooo. Apparently videos that are too long are just outright discarded by the recorder. And it was just under 10 minutes! _________________

When I use to edit video on computers (mid/late 90's mind you!) I used Adobe Premiere. It was really easy to use honestly.
I don't know what Dess uses unfortunatly. _________________ “The average man has a secret desire to be a swaggering, drunken, fighting, raping swashbuckler.”

I've got the first video down now. It's gonna take forever to compress, even though it's already moderately compressed! Youtube just doesn't like 100 meg videos. This is ok for now but as time goes on I'm gonna have to find a better way to do this. I'll check out Adobe Premier. Maybe I should just lower the resolution of my emulator, but I think sound is the major thing. _________________

for recording from a computer, i use camtasia recorder or fraps (where applicable). for encoding i use virtualdub, or for serious editing i use camtasia studio.
i am looking forward to this, by the way. _________________

I have two monitors, one of which has an Xbox 360 hooked up to it. Even though I'm switching the signal over and am unable to do it on monitor 2 (360 one), is there a way to use monitor one, via a program (fraps didn't have the option) of taking screenshots of what's on monitor 2? I'm thinking no, and I've been looking around, but hopefully someone here knows. _________________ Come to me, Mordel. We shall depart. |

Try the CamStudio program I linked above. It's working well for me, but I don't know about another setup.
I had to split the first video into 2. No matter how much I recompressed it, I couldn't get it below 100 megs. So welcome to Let's Play Dragon Warrior VII! Intro and exploring Fishbel.

I'll try! That endgame leveling is just too brutal, because there are so few markers to look forward to.
I have one last video for today, but Youtube's not allowing uploads right now. In the mean time, there are 13 now. Tomorrow I'll work on getting them much smaller so they can be up to 10 minutes.
Also tomorrow: best/worst decision EVER! _________________

Really? I don't remember having to grind very much. Then again, I don't remember large chunks of DWVII, which is honestly kind of depressing considering how much time I spent with it.
This is probably one of the reasons I told myself I'd never play it again. (The other being that God chillin' in your village is pretty much the omega as far as jRPGs are concerned, so I figure I'm more or less done with those.) |

Hey Swimmy, Google Video lets you upload videos over 100mb and over 10 minutes long. They have a desktop uploading tool and everything. Right now it says they're not accepting new uploads, but they're lying. |

Major DW7 update. Dharma scenario is now finished and I have spent the last several hours gaining class levels. I have a problem
On the bright side, the rest of the series should go by much quicker as most battles won't take longer than a single turn now. _________________

Swimmy, I'm a quitter. A chronic incompleter. PLEASE DON'T BE LIKE ME. I want more DW7 videos. Please. You are a star. Don't give up on such a monumental undertaking. Go on. Finish it, like I know you have it in you to do. I have prepared(plagiarised) some inspirational material for you here:
Like a great tapestry, vertical and
horizontal threads have met and
become intertwined, creating a
huge, beautiful image.
You may have cursed this never-
ending journey. You have known
injury and defeat, but you have
struggled on to reach this place.
Your in-born intelligence and
courage have helped bring you
here. You have believed in your
friends, and as a group, you have
supported each other. Have you
ever stopped to consider how
much your video count has grown?
Now, you could edit videos in
Win98 and Dos with one
click. As you certainly know,
you cannot turn back. YouTube,
the arch fiend of the universe, is
growing frightened of you and
your power. He is searching for
ways to end your journey.
From here, the challenge grows
and your adventure will take you
beyond anything you ever
imagined. You are drawing near
to MY UTMOST RESPECT. Remember when you
are suffering hardships, your
enemy is also struggling.
When this cup of tea is finished,
your adventure will continue.
Your destiny pulls you in
the right direction. Believe in
yourself and press forward.

Hup hup! 21 new videos coming!
I even gave you a shoutout, captaincabinets, for the reminder.
I like my commentary on the newest ones (125 on I think? The whole Krage scenario) better than most. I rambled about country accents and the problems with modern RPGs. This takes forever but they should all be up by the end of the night. _________________

I avoided Transformers because I thought it would suck just like every other Michael Bay movie, but after enough people told me I should give it a chance I caved.
Remind me never to cave again.

i liked no country for old men, and i don't really care for movies.
ps nyc folk - the tribeca theatres down on the west side past the wtc are an excellent place to see movies - huge seats, lots of leg room (even for me) and generally empty.
though at the end of the aforementioned film some jerkoff screamed "noooooo" at, uh, well that point at the end where if you hadn't paid attention to the character you might think something else would have happened. _________________

I almost mentioned how everyone should go see No Country for Old Men instead. Now that's a movie that doesn't fuck around. And what great dialogue! I'm glad I managed to see at least one good recent movie, I need that just to remember why I keep watching the damn things. _________________

Eastern Promises and No Country are probably the best movies to come out this year with No Country being one of the best movies this decade.
That said, I really want to see There Will be Blood and Sweeny Todd this year.
Why in gods name did you see either Transformers or I am Legend. Those are movies you rent for a dollar in redbox and watch when you're drunk out of your mind. Like, I just grabbed Bloodrayne from my mother-in-law's house because she buys every hollywood movie that's less than $5 previously viewed. I intend to get drunk and watch it sometime soon because it will be god fucking awful. _________________ “The average man has a secret desire to be a swaggering, drunken, fighting, raping swashbuckler.”

I saw I Am Legend because my best friend Todd is a Batman fanatic, and since I rarely see him I've been trying to get as much time with him as possible. Yeah, we saw it in an IMAX, with the Batman teaser. Which was nothing special and I could have found it for him on the internet. I didn't know it would be that bad, though.
We made Todd's fiancé watch Santa's Slay, which is a modern classic if you haven't seen it. She was baffled that I could enjoy such a bad, low-budget movie but hate such a "good" movie like I Am Legend. It really is a stupid B-movie, and if I had known that going in I might have liked it.
As for Transformers, I'm inevitably going to watch it again when I download the RiffTrax. _________________

No! That looks awesome. There's a RiffTrax of the first Harry Potter, too.
Incidentally, I tried to watch the first Troll movie the other day. The sound on the old VHS was too bad to make it through, but I did notice that the dad, played by Michael Moriarty of Law and Order fame, was named Harry Potter. Which is funny, I guess. I had an ex who was real into those books. I only saw the first movie and thought it was shit. And I like fantastical kids movies.
So hey, is this gonna be my movie blog now? Why not?
Along with Troll, I picked up 5 other movies, $1 each: Street Warriors Part 2, Commando, Stargate, Quest for the Mighty Sword, and Eliminators. I've made it through half of them; I had to stop Street Warriors because it was too boring. Eliminators was amazing. It concerns a cyborg named "Mandroid" who has to stop an evil scientist from traveling back in time and becoming the emperor of Rome. Along the way he picks up a scientist lady, a jungle guide, and a ninja with magical powers that involve making fish pop out of water and jumping through speeding fans. This is why I watch bad movies. It's like it was trying to pick up on the Robocop and TMNT crazes, but forgot that there was no "losers boating up a river in Mexico" craze.
In good movie land, I watched The Prestige with my family. Todd told me to pick it up. He claimed it was amazing. Well. . . no. Twist endings don't do it for me. Didn't help that I saw it coming. But at least it didn't piss me off to watch it. The acting, setting, presentation are all solid, and it thankfully doesn't cop out in killing a lot of important characters, which is always a good quality in a movie. (I go into most movies wanting everyone to die. There are a few movies I like despite knowing they're not so great, just because they kill enough people to make me happy.) All the stuff with Tesla was silly and mischaracterized. There was no reason to introduce real magic into this movie, even if it was called "science." But the fact that David Bowie played Tesla, and played him well, gave me a good feeling about it overall.
On the other hand, I could have picked up The Transporter 2 instead.
My family got me the Die Hard box set for Christmas, which is awesome. Now I just need to pick up Live Free or Die Hard. They also got me. . . The Full Monty, which I've never seen and have in fact avoided. They tell me it's funny. Maybe it is. I guess I'll watch it? Economists like to dismiss gift-giving as inefficient, but maybe it's because we're hard to shop for. _________________

Oh, also. I have been learning how to play the banjo. Once I'm competent enough to rock your face, TGQ, I will. _________________

I watched Riki-Oh: The Story of Ricky yesterday. It was both dubbed and subbed, which made the dialogue interesting to interpret.
For those who aren't familiar with this movie, it's based on a manga (don't run away yet). It follows the adventures of a kung fu artist with superhuman strength after he's been locked in a privatized prison for commiting manslaughter. The story is unimportant. This is a movie about how awesome it is for kung fu dudes to punch through people and smash their heads and break their arms off by punching them and also punching. Punchingpunchingpunching, bloodbloodlbood. There's an I-Mockery review and some youtube videos so you can see what I mean. (In fact, seems like the whole thing is on youtube, in 9 parts.) Yes, the whole movie is like that. Wikipedia says, " In the live action movie, it was one of the first Hong Kong movie that used Category 3 film rating system (equalivent to X-rated) for non pornographic media."
Anyway, this is pretty much the most perfect movie ever made. The two things I love in movies are over-the-top action and gore. Combine the two, and I'm in heaven. But it doesn't just stop there. It's not like Pirates 3, where there's just one grand over-the-top and idiotic scene. The whole movie is filled with this stuff; Ricky just keeps punching through people. Punching through their stomachs, punching through their jaws, punching their fists so hard it makes them explode. This is the best movie ever. Bury me with it. _________________

Man, i was watching the Myth Busters marathon yesterday and they had the action movie myth about a shot out gas tank leaving a trail of fuel and then being lit and blowing up the car. All I kept thinking about was Die Hard 2, but you know what? It's impossible because planes use jet fuel which doesn't burn on contact Fuel also only burns at 7ft per second which is only about a brisk walking speed. I'm spoiled from DH2 for life now.
Also: Riki-o bored me for the most part. There's some more entertaining explotation films out there, honestly. That one's just more over-the-top than most. I recommend The Crippled Masters if you can find it.
Finally: I have this really old VHS tape I got at a random thift store in TN starring John Candy titled The Clown Murders. It's packed in storage right now, otherwise I'd be inspired to watch it. _________________ “The average man has a secret desire to be a swaggering, drunken, fighting, raping swashbuckler.”
