Adult Swim's Five Minutes To Kill (Yourself). It's not exactly as creative as Suicide Salaryman, but it's something. _________________

fairy attackers is an homage to monster world iv that . . . emulates that game more or less exactly. i quit on reaching the water labyrinth, because that's where i'm up to right now in the actual game. _________________

So you've probably seen it already, but it bears repeating. Sumotori Dreams is not only extremely impressive, but has actually caused me laughter-based facial injury. |

death village is was developed by nigoro, who i believe are the remnants of gr3 project (creators of la-mulana). it's a puzzle game that's somewhat similiar to haunting on the genesis: the goal is to manipulate the environment (ghosts pop out of windows bleaahh) to scare this poor invesitgator to the exit door. think of it as an eets that's not vapid and boring? oh, and it's gorgeous. _________________

Fraxy may be the coolest freeware game I've played in a long time. Imagine chorensha 68k, warning forever, gradius and zugya dx (bosconian) having a child with a level editor, and you would not be far off. It's being constantly updated, but the most recent version is already ridiculously playable on concept alone. |

Yeah, they are.
independent Gaming wrote: | The group, the new home of the members of GR3PROJECT (La Mulana), is working on a new project called "Death Village", as noted earlier here. According to some of the posts by members Naramura and Samieru:
* The group is now going to try their hand at releasing games commercially.
* The goal: "Sure, there are lots of companies churning out franchise games for popular systems with expensive advertising campaigns... But, we suggest, why can't there also be a company of artisans trying out things to see if they work, one where the graphics and advertising might be disheartening but the games are consistently weird?"
* Death Village is not a sequel to La Mulana, and the public shouldn't expect a similar experience.
* The group actually has two projects in the works. Samieru is concentrating on the second, "more experimental" one.

I was going to pass it along to the thread I recently started, but since its related to this subject, I figure, what the hell....
So my company has just released 500+ games for cell phone, and for absolutely free. You can find more info right over here.
Now here's the thing... I know, and even my company knows that these aren't AAA titles. They ain't gonna blow the doors off of what's available on the DS or PSP. But hey, they're free. If you ain't doing much with your cell phone, there's no harm in downloading one and giving it a shot. And if you're bored with it, chuck it, and get another... again, there's like 500 to test out, and a few of them aren't totally bad. Some have the charm of the better free games you can find online.
Plus, you fine folks at TGQ can have a little fun by guessing which game such-and-such apes its gameplay from originally! |

So do any of these work with a Treo. _________________ “The average man has a secret desire to be a swaggering, drunken, fighting, raping swashbuckler.”

I think so? The weird thing is that sometimes you are limited to what games you can download by your model, yet most will work on every phone. So to open more up, you kinda need to mess with the profiles. Which I actually haven't done myself, only seen and heard the techies around me do it.
As was and still is the case when I'm covering "regular" games, in-between all the writing, I haven't had much of a chance to do much cell phone gaming, even the stuff from my own company. |

This is also based on carrier as well. I found that out with my last phone.
Also, my Treo runs PalmOS, so I doubt any will work. _________________ “The average man has a secret desire to be a swaggering, drunken, fighting, raping swashbuckler.”

chalk is pretty hot. it's a mouse-based shooter with a drawing mechanic. it's beautiful, and the level design is fantastic. nine out of nine stars.
now that i've managed to one-credit it: chalk is still hot, though its final stage is pretty lackluster. the game has a nights-style ranking system, and i've heard you can unlock some sort of "endurance" mode by earning all As. _________________

lucky coins is a pleasingly bouncey panchinkoish sort of game. it was developed by donut games, seemingly with the engine from their earlier game spikey's bounce around which is not terrible. bounce around is kind of a hard game to play skillfully and predictably, and i think lucky coins is more successful because it abandons the pretense of not being mostly a game of chance. _________________

Ok, seriously, I wasted over an hour at work messing with this. I found that it's really cool to build a column of sand, then a column of seet to the left of that, then a column of gunpowder to the left of that. You blow up the gunpowder with the fire and then it launches the seeds into the powder and creates this really freaky tree. Then you light a fire at the base of the tree and watch it burn up. You can also blow around some gunpowder into the brances for some neat fireworks. _________________ “The average man has a secret desire to be a swaggering, drunken, fighting, raping swashbuckler.”

Oh yeah, I did that too. It's more interesting to attempt to create natural vortexes. Like line from the bottom left to the top right of solid fans and you'll create two vortex. I found a few other ones as well. _________________ “The average man has a secret desire to be a swaggering, drunken, fighting, raping swashbuckler.”

alex adventure is a pretty neat little platformer. you explore big, gradually-opening worlds (two, it looks like) which open into small, straightforward ones (containing quest items). i've gotten three artifacts out of world one so far. NOTE that the game doesn't save your position when you quit to the menu, only what artifacts you've found, so if you have to quit the game before you find one be prepared to start over. it's not especially long anyway. _________________

I've got five artefacts and I suspect the last one is behind a locked door in World 2. Problem being, this door is protected by a mushroom turret, acid droplets and one of those pendulum tongue devices, as well as having a big red block in the way. If I approach it, sure, I can unlock the door, but chances are I'll get stuck between the block and pop-up turret. What am I supposed to do here? _________________ "This is the most fun I've ever had without being drenched in the blood of my enemies!" |

I did, and as it turned out, the last artefact was somewhere completely different. But now I'm just curious if there's anything to that door. _________________ "This is the most fun I've ever had without being drenched in the blood of my enemies!" |

Via xii games:
La Croix Pan is the first adventure game experiment by a person going under TheJBurger. It's a very short piece, shouldn't take more than a quarter of an hour to beat, and is devoid of any puzzles as such. As a first step into development, though, it's nice to see someone start small, and try something a little new.
The plot takes place during the 7th of June 1944, in an eponymous French village. You take on the role of an American sniper, evidently separated from his squad, and who takes it upon himself to defend this now abandoned, but strategically significant, village from incoming Nazi forces, hoping for reinforcements to arrive. As far as plots go, it's not much different from a Commando comic or the like, but it manages to achieve a sense of looming suspense. Not a poor first effort in the slightest. _________________ "This is the most fun I've ever had without being drenched in the blood of my enemies!" |

so pixeljam (who are pretty cool cats) just released their newest game, a sequel to their first title, ratmaze (which i think can be played in ratmaze 2 with the right options). it's a cute revisit of the original - the secret speed-up key in ratmaze actually makes the rat in ratmaze 2 move slower. the new maze is bigger, with more actions to take and secrets. and the clock counts down rather than up - i havn't been able to collect all the cheese yet. _________________

i am impressed. squidlarkin, i commend you. i absolutely cannot reach B, but i think my solution to the conveyor stage is less than ideal.
hey, streambolt desero is pretty great, though only one level long. it's a run-and-gun shooter that, according to mr. graham goring, "beats gunstar heroes at its own game". and it has absolutely adorable sprites (watch the way the little baddies try and sneak up on you). it's a follow-up to streambolt, which i remember being unmemorable. _________________

polychromatic funk monkey (or "tedious stair builder") is a game that feels like an accident. it technically works, you can finish it (it took me an hour), but it's, um, really tedious. especially towards the end. i like process and building so i found it relaxing but i'm not planning on playing it again, despite the randomly-generated world. _________________

Remember that sadistic platform/puzzle/avoid-the-deathtrap game Your Life Is End? One of my friends has been working on something similar.
I Wanna Be The Guy isn't remotely finished yet, but you can download an alpha version here. (That's a forum link, and it's always wise to assume that forums are NSFW.) It's frustrating, but in an entertaining way--particularly if you have a masochistic desire to overcome arbitrarily difficult games.
I've seen a couple YouTube videos that demonstrate how to get around many of the obstacles. You'll have to look for them if you want to see them yourself, though. |
