A prequel is a work that sequentially came after but whose story takes place before a previous work. If you want to describe the game that simply came before the game in question, the word you're looking for is predecessor.
For example, Katamari Damacy is the predecessor of We ♥ Katamari. It cannot be a prequel because it came first. We ♥ Katamari is a prequel if its story takes place before the story of Katamari Damacy. (In fact, a good portion of it does. It's kind of a half-prequel, like The Godfather II.)
So remember: (predecessor ---> sequel & prequel), NOT (prequel ---> sequel). If people keep using prequel to mean predecessor, we're all going to have to start using the word "protosequel" to describe prequels instead, and we don't want that, do we?
And now you know.

psa: bagel is pronounced BAY-GEL not BAG-EL. some people don't know that.

did you know that some people theorize that the berzerkers of scandanavia were not only total badasses but may have been pee-drinking amanita muscaria scarfing sonofabitches? (the active chemicals recycle in your urine at least one go through, and maybe more. it's the gift that keeps on giving)
laput shamanic types also drink their own pee to recycle the tasty amantia goodness; it has been recorded that other population groups would drink the shaman's urine* after he ate the bulk of it because it removes the one chemical that causes the acute toxicity issues mostly tremors and sweaty dizziness.
you can still get some bad shit from pee drinking, so like with anything else, always know your dealer. _________________

Re: the Laplanders, supposedly they fed the amanita to their reindeer and then drank that piss, meaning that the toxic chemical was filtered out in the reindeer's liver and not your own.
Although urine itself is sterile, it goes through parts of your body that are not -- there are frequently bacteria in your urethra and around the opening of it, so if you are going to drink piss, let some of it go through first to clear out the bacteria. Drinking mid-stream is the only safe way to go.
Also: pee breath? Who wants to deal with that shit? |

When X "Composes" Y, that means Y is made up of X.
When X "Comprises" Y, that means X includes Y.
The statement "The Taito catalog is comprised of very joyful games" is totally wrong, but only on a grammatical basis.
According to a Savage Love column I read a while back, frequent consumption of urine can have deletirious effects, but it has to be quite the consumption. |

Interesting. I wouldn't think it would be grammatically wrong to say that "The Taito catalog includes very joyful games," since using the word catalog implies that something can be included.

You've forgotten that "is comprised of" is the passive voice, and the agent and the patient have switched places. It's correct to say, "The Taito catalog comprises very joyful games," and to say, "Wes threw the ball." But when you translate that into the passive voice, you get, "The Taito catalog is comprised of very joyful games," and, "Wes is thrown by the ball." You can see how the second sentences is very different from the first.
That said, the battle over "comprise" is really a losing one.
Merriam-Webster wrote: | Although it has been in use since the late 18th century, sense 3 [comprise = compose] is still attacked as wrong. Why it has been singled out is not clear, but until comparatively recent times it was found chiefly in scientific or technical writing rather than belles lettres. Our current evidence shows a slight shift in usage: sense 3 is somewhat more frequent in recent literary use than the earlier senses. You should be aware, however, that if you use sense 3 you may be subject to criticism for doing so, and you may want to choose a safer synonym such as compose or make up. |
I don't have the Dictionary of English Usage handy, but I'm fairly certain that it includes the fact that this usage is most common in the passive voice. How the idiomatic construction came to flourish is uncertain. _________________ It's the saw of the table! |

People always give me shit about how I pronounce 'bagel' (bægəl), which I always blamed on my mother's Wisconsin accent, but it's strange and interesting to learn that this pronunciation is shared by northern Ontario and towns on Canada's east coast! Who knew? |

I think, to a certain extent, the concept of a 100% correct pronunciations in the English language is a bit of a fallacy.
References to bubblers always confuse the people around me. That and my insistance on using 'Scotties' and not 'Kleenex' to identify facial tissue, although that may be more of a smaller regional thing and not necessarily a statewide mode of speech.
And on this note:
PSA: Regional accents and dialects found Wisconsin, Michigan, Illinois, and other central midwest states sound nothing like the movie Fargo. |

when in doubt, follow the yiddish. yiddish says bay-gel, and who am i to change 5000 years of history?
also bubbler? the only thing that comes to mind is one of those expensive stupid looking glass pipe deals that have a little pocket of water underneath and look like a seashell painted by a four year old.
or this shit (thank you google image search)

No shit, those things are called bubblers as well? I've never heard that, just 'bong' or when someone's trying to make stoner paraphernalia sound dignified, 'water pipe'.
Maybe that's why announcing that I'm going to go get a drink from the bubbler leads to so many weird looks. |
