It's also very blue.

But it's too wide for a 1024x768 screen with scroll bar. Could you turn the width down maybe 40 pixels somewhere?

You guys are silly. I just fixed it. I was in the middle of making it so that the banners work when you called.

Well that horizontal scroll bar is a bit jarring.

I understand!

Now I need someone to tell me if the logo looks too close to the banners.

Also tell me if the front page is scrollbareriffic.

No, and no.

You know, your monitor can most likely display at 1024x768 too.

has that weird outer border always been there?

cause it's really weird.

or maybe it's the blue. the darker blue is the weirdest, i've decided.

It's always been there, but we usually don't use such a bright main color. We're bright this time though!

I actually think it looks less professional than the orange/red. Then again in my mind "professional" means rounded corners and gradients.

I think it's an improvement!

But I think the banners should be centered and the logo shoved in the top left corner... maybe shrink it a bit?

or maybe just put the logo above the banners? but then the top of the screen would be too crowded...

If you did this, people at 1024x768 (read: me) would not be able to see anything other than those two and have to scroll on every page ;_;

I wouldn't mind seeing the orange one as an additional board skin.

Yes.

Also, I'm with toups on the idea of centering the banner and shrinking/cornering the logo. At 1920x1200 neither of them are quite centered above the board options, and the logo's overwhelming.

Agreeing with this. It could be helped if the logo were smaller and over to the left more, I think my major probably with it is that it's noticably wider than the banner.

Actually, making it so it's the same vertical height as the banner and then centering the Home | Back Issues etc. link under both the logo and the banner rather than just the banner would be the way I would do it.

I'm sorry, but this blue is seriously hurting my eyes. Especially when I'm writing a post like right here. It's uncomfortable for me to look at and if I stare at it any longer I'll probably get a headache.

Guys, ditch the background blue, I think. It clashes with the calming blue. Make it a more peaceful colour, or even black. And it also counts as the table header, so above me now where I'm typing it says "Post a reply" in really dark blue text on a dark grey background, which is impossible to read.

Like the top bit a lot, though!

The banners looked best centered, but overall the changes are nice.

The blue against dark grey at the top is pretty hard to read.

I'm guessing that because this style is listed as "OrangeHillZone" that you just overwrote the orange and didn't create a copy of the CSS file?

If you did, people can use something like stylish to skin the board any way they want. I'll set up something for it if you have the original CSS file.

The following post should very clearly be in the secret staff section of the website, but I'm doing it in public so that anyone can weigh in. So weigh in bitches!

Here's the bunkly written CSS file. The old color schemes are saved for all posterity in the comments section at the top, and switching over is as simple as changing all instances of the current color to whatever past color scheme you liked.

That said, I don't like the idea of letting people choose their color schemes. If we do that it's totally pointless to update every 3 months. It will no longer be jarringly frustrating for people whenever we have a new issue! I say we either choose a good color scheme and stick with it or we can do the update-with-issues thing. If we're going to choose a good color scheme and stick with it we'll go with the art-director approved light-green on white look of the waste-of-money 2005 E3 press kits, otherwise we're sticking with the issue-based single color scheme (unless I can be convinced otherwise).

Wes, I'm all for you just deciding whatever you want. That should come with the caveat that I have little interest in the layout of the site.

I'm more interested in: does the makeover mean that we're going to have a new issue soon?

Yup! The only reason I jumped the gun on the layout changin' is that I copied the new css file to the wrong place at the wrong time.

It's looking like it'll be up later today some time.

The worst part of this new layout is that the banner identifier no longer works :(

You know.... I think who ever said that the logo could be a little smaller was right. Perhaps the hight of the banner top to the text bottom. It seems a bit too large. This would possibly make it feel a little more centered too.

Also, just for the forums. I think the front page looks good.

I thought a minor blasphemy upon discovering what had happened.

At least, I think was minor. It was just taking a name in vain.

this banner doesn't work since the new design was put into effect. the banner was uploaded at the same time that the new design went online.
