I saw a documentary a couple years ago about the Mass Games in North Korea that was extremely interesting, as the documentarians had virtually unlimited access to North Korean citizens. _________________ resetbutton.net: videogames for unattractive people |

This Faithless video features images from the documentary A State of Mind, about the North Korean mass gymnastics. _________________ "This is the most fun I've ever had without being drenched in the blood of my enemies!" |

This might be intentional. The documentarians were from England and were only allowed into the country because they were not Americans. Given the attitude North Korea has towards the US, I was surprised they didn't have some kind of restriction from footage officially being released in the US (I saw it at a film festival) but that there's only a PAL release seems to make sense. _________________ resetbutton.net: videogames for unattractive people |

I highly recommend everyone seeing this at least once (if not owning it) if only for the footage of the Mass Games which is some of the most amazing feats of human effort I have ever seen. I mean, take away all the anti-US propaganda, all the suffering of the people masked by this ridiculous ceremony of exuberance, and just watch it as a completely captivating beautiful act. _________________ resetbutton.net: videogames for unattractive people |

watch jesus camp in its entirety
it suffers from the sort of problems you find in certain kinds of documentaries (michael moore, for example) except it's a bit more subtle. though it certainly wears its heart on its sleeve. kind of disjointed, however, but worth watching. i'm a bit jaded, so i'm not terribly phased by teaching kids to parrot slogans and religious beliefs (i went to public school so i got FDR and earth day instead of the blood of christ). isn't that part of what being a parent is all about, meaning that serious beliefs should be transmitted?
i dunno. i live in a neighborhood where you can buy onesies for your three month old that have "george bush is not my president" or pictures of che on them. everyone's a fucking asshole in their own unique way. _________________

That was pretty decent dhex. A little too much agenda pushing at the end, but overall enough to remind me to get my voter registration shit ironed out soon.
Side note: not all of Missouri is like that. _________________ “The average man has a secret desire to be a swaggering, drunken, fighting, raping swashbuckler.”

I don't see how Jesus Camp is worth it unless you're already not convinced that supreme scary fucktards walk the same Earth as you.

sierra leone has enough problems.
short answer: we don't do jack squat.
on the other hand, pentacostals give to charity in far higher numbers than their secular counterparts, and are incredibly driven in many areas of poverty outreach and missonary work, so perhaps it's not such a bad thing after all.
dealing with ecstatic religions is difficult if one doesn't take religion very seriously, because that's the nature of revealed religious experiences. liberal catholics, for example, have a hard time with the ecstatic facets of catholicism because their own religious experience is not revealed, but thought out. similarly, in my own experience only a small thread of the vast array of new age/neopagan/occult religious moments in north america are oddly quite similar to the liberal catholics, despite being (ostensibly, not historically) tied to various ecstatic traditions from europe and elsewhere (but mostly europe). it's a social bonding exercise rather - even if it's just a subcultural sense of separation from "the herd" - than a relevatory faith.
i could go on about this for hours. new thread? _________________

1951's sci-fi classic The Day the Earth Stood Still.
And a demo of the Euphoria physics engine. Looks promising, but still needs work as far as I can tell. Specifically, the sound effects, the lack of animation in affected models and the use of R2-D2 figurines feel off (The latter because I picture them as plastic crap things, not heavy or powerful like, say, a bullet or bat, so I'm given no sense of weight to the breaking of physical objects).
This is bound to interest a few: Footage of a Half-Life 2 Wiimote mod, here demonstrated under the brilliant Minerva: Metastasis mod by Adam Foster. _________________ "This is the most fun I've ever had without being drenched in the blood of my enemies!" |

A look at Nintendo of America back when it had complete monopoly over the home console market. I don't know what's sadder- that those Nintendo helplines still exist, or that I actually rang one two years ago when I was stuck on Pokemon Ruby. |

That one guy isn't funny at all. In fact, he is trying so hard to be funny he just makes me feel bad because I know he thinks he's funny and trying very hard to get a part in a comedy TV show. It's sad really. _________________ “The average man has a secret desire to be a swaggering, drunken, fighting, raping swashbuckler.”

Neither of those two vids were particularly funny. The first one is great because of how prissy the journalists get. The second one, I only posted for the extra info.
It's the event itself, and the coverage ("ATHF? Never heard of!"), that's ludicrous.
I mean, two weeks. _________________ "This is the most fun I've ever had without being drenched in the blood of my enemies!" |

it's incredible how they're just talking about hair and it's making all the people around them totally unhinged.
the media are casting their lite-brites as "hoax bombs", and they're refusing to play along. the situation is a joke and they're treating it as such. _________________

what's really incredible is how well the boston pd has spun their utter fuck-up into someone else's fault.
i think a lot of good lessons will be learned here. and a bunch of not so good lessons, of course, as urban "guerrilla marketing" techniques become the tactic du jour for firms across the country. _________________

Actually there are no dogs in achewood. The cats walk that way though.
They make reference to dogs sometimes but as far as I know they aren't intelligent like the other animals. _________________ where were you when nana komatsu got a wii? |
