My dad went and asked me for a Tetrissy Windows puzzle game for Xmas, and I'm realizing that I'm not just behind the times on this genre. It's plainly a gaping, yawning emptiness in my selectively-comprehensive knowledge of games, and particularly so where PC titles are concerned. So I'm here. Tetrissy equals stuff scrolling one direction on the screen into a big pile, disappearing when certain arrangements of stuff happen, just for the record. Anything more specific is open for this purpose.

Any hot suggestions?

Baku Baku is more like Columns than Tetris, but that's going into specifics.

Thanks guys, that does look pretty rad, but my Dad isn't up to challenge like that. Any other ideas? The simpler the better, really. Examples of simple include Tetris, Snood, and the original Dr. Mario. .... Heck, maybe there's just no demand for something that pure and intuitive these days. People do like complications...

Maybe not? Still a fun read for everything Tetris.

The last Tetris I really got into was the New Tetris on N64 those gold and silver 4x4 boxes were hypnotizing.

Some good 4-player brawls were had on that one.

Tetris Elements seems to be a rather slick edition. It's got a classic mode, plus some interesting variants. (It's probably pretty cheap now, too!)

Also, it's not on the PC, but to the haberdashically-inclined it doesn't get much better than Hatris:

Ah, Hatris. I should really go back and play all those weird little Tetris offshoots. I recall a 3Dish one for the N64 that looked really impressive, and things like Blastris and Hatris and Wetris that just looked strange and fun.

Dad actually opened things up a bit tonight... talked about how he likes Bejeweled a lot. I hadn't thought that'd be his cuppa, but it looks like anything casual puzzle is going to be good. Perhaps he'd like Zuma-flavored fun..

Also, Sextris. I've not played it but it looks pretty good. You can do some impressive combos.

I visited the guys who made Wetrix when I was 14, doing work experience at Infogrammes/Ocean Software. They had big beards. Wetrix is OK.

Zookeeper looks perfect, but I can't seem to find a buyable, non-Flash, Windows version, much less one translated to English. Anybody know if such a thing exists?

I don't know about you guys, but I dig Sega Swirl. It comes in Windows, Flash, and Dreamcast flavors. The sound effects when you perform well are very good
