And I hate to admit it, but they're half-right.

Richard Dawkins reads extracts from his pornographic The God Delusion and anwsers questions at Randolph-Macon Woman's College in Lynchburg, Virginia.

Many seem to think he's a dick of some kind, but the man's genuinely brilliant, and here, whenever he's tackled by questions from predictable religiously outraged sources, he handles them quite calmly and revealingly.

I don't know what to think of that link, dhex, other than both parties are at fault and the band's music sucks anyway, like something a high-schooler would come up with.

explaining the story behind the thief and the cobbler is a little beyond me, but there is a wonderful fan edit that attempts to preserve the intended vision of richard williams et al.

People say that's not such a great film and there's no character or engaging story to speak of, but it passed the My Mum test (where I show a film to my mum and if she falls asleep, it's not a great film). In fact, she liked it a lot and was engaged totally by the story and characters throughout. Huh. Since then I've given TTATC away on DVD as a birthday present a few times this year, and people seem to be peased with it.

A documentary about Richard Williams in 1982 is here. It's clever really, how it's been edited so you firstly see his brilliance and then towards the latter end of the program you see just how wayward and troubled he is. Suffice to say the words 'work-life ratio' don't make an appearance in this programme.

Watching it either makes me wish I was a proper animator or glad I'm not one, I can't decide.

P.S. Garrett Gilchrist's secret stash of Thief stuff is here. He's got scans of all Richard Williams' illustrations for the book of Mulla Nasruddin, which are beautiful.

A tight song gets a tighter video. (Actually kind of old, still worth bringing back up. And this is the one version of it on YouTube that I've found that isn't desynched, which is highly important!)
