Oh. Huh. I wonder why "system of a down" gets the credit for it so often online?

My friend once tried to tell me that the title theme - as in the flowing, moving melody that plays softly while the logo fades in - from Ocarina of Time was performed by Nine Inch Nails.

Yes, really.

It sounds like Serj from System of a Down but it isn't them, like Dess said.

I'll rip it for you and upload the files. You'll have to keep reminding me to do it though, since my CDs and the computer I use to go online are at opposite ends of town. It will require great effort on my part!

Did anyone see the Donkey Kong cartoon? It was an atrocity. Donkey Kong sounded like Luke Skywalker. 'Gee Cranky Kong, I can't help you with the watermelon festival, I've got a date with Candy this evening!' A date?? He's supposed to be a stupid angry monkey who kidnaps women and takes them to the top of building sites, not Kevin Arnold helping Winnie Cooper bone up for the spelling bee.

I do what I can. Wink

(I think I have the soundtrack, or the web location of it, for every Rare N64 game ever produced, plus a few others. 95% of my mp3 collection is game music.)

While we're talking about Rare soundtracks: Jet Force Gemini's makes the excuse that the N64 had too little ROM space for a high-quality soundtrack a total lie.

I can still hear Battlecruiser Sekhmet's theme. And Cerulean. And the asteroid base (which is one of the coolest stages ever, really)...now that I think of it, it seems Vela's path had the coolest music, for some reason.

I remember saying at the time that if they had called Jet Force Gemini a Metroid game, then it would have been rated 100% in every game magazine ever. Well, maybe not; the way the camera and controls work take about two hours until they feel natural. And the first stage is pretty atrocius, even as far as Rare levels go. After that, it's ectasy.

The final boss fight in Jet Force Gemini is also horribly intense. Two hours of jumping and swerving my body out of my chair, drenching myself in sweat while shouting YOU FUCKING BASTARD HOW THE FUCKING HELL CAN YOU HAVE A SECOND PART TO YOUR BATTLE AFTER IT TOOK ME 10 TRIES TO BEAT THE FIRST PART.

I also liked finding all the Tribals. I swore I would never do that shit, but it's actually fun. You really get to see the beauty of the way the stages were designed; they're rather linear when you first go through them, but on a replay you see how huge they were. Some levels (such as the asteroid base and the formerly ass first level) turn into wholly different monsters while you're looking for the Tribals. Hell, some planets you don't even visit on the regular playthrough. You really are supposed to get the Tribals; it's not a sidequest in the traditional sense, because a) you need to do it to beat the game, but more importantly b) there's a HUGE amount of extra content to be seen while doing it. The people who never got the Tribals probably only saw half the game.

The game also had a dog with a laser on his back.

The character designs were pretty awful, though. He looks like Marty Feldman with those bug-eyes.

GROSS, DON'T REMIND ME.

Also, Perfect Dark came out after Jet Force Gemini and it was really good too.

I really like Super Smash Bros., and I don't think I'm insulting the game by saying that the best thing about itis when the announcer says "SUPER SMASH BROTHERS, MAYLAAAAAAY" at the title screen. As long as the new game embraces this same sense of ridiculous grandeur, it will be awesome for sure. The new music is little more "life and death" as Isfet put it, but it's still more or less on track I think. I like it.

Masahiro Sakurai, the director of the game, says this on the website:

Quote:
It's of a slightly different disposition than previous Smash Bros. games, wouldn't you say?

I also want to change the atmosphere of the game itself a little, too. But you'll just have to look forward to how I'll be doing that.

So uh... yeah!

I'm not sure if the redesign of the characters they did was good or not. Originally the twins were younger more kid like, but a few months before the game came out they were changed to a more mature, older look.

And that says a lot about the old character designs. I remember looking at magazines when I was in elementary school and thinking "wow, these things are creepy".

Speaking of the Melee Announcer...
Something I'm trying to get some kind of confirmation on:
here's a YouTube of Ice Climbers going to town on the heavy bag
but listen to the count down--am I the only person who thinks that "FIVE" is pronounced very oddly? I hear a definate "r" sound in there, and it sounds a lot more like "THREE" than "FIVE" does it. ("THREE" itself sounds normal, as do the other numbers, though "TWO" is hard to hear.)
