It figures things would have to get destroyed over Thanksgiving break. Requesting thread title change to something involving the Superdome, as the Rome reference is a little high-brow and pretentious. Also, seconding just about everything showka just posted.

Anyway, I seem to have already registered here but I don't remember it!

Yeah, see the weird thing of mine was that I have never done anything more strong than alcohol (prescription meds for when I had my elbow replaced in 8th grade aside). As for emo, that happened two weeks after the seizure, when I got dumped by my girlfriend of 7 years by a five sentence email. I wasn't even broke (compared to my usual state) as the student loans came in a few days before then.

So yeah, damn man, i got nothing.

This was a sad read.

IC, I love you. Please come back.

That is all.

Let's just agree to go with the board that Toups is making. If that doesn't work out, then let's... Well, let's agree to something that we'd do if it didn't, anyway.

Voted we all just chill a few days and get calm heads before anything gets motioned towards. Decide in haste, repent at leisure, etc.

Last time I checked this was still the major problem. I think one of the threads I read was "I'm getting kinda tired of Metroidish Castlevania games" vs. "I think they're still pretty good." (Which turned into "You Metroidvania haters are a bunch of elitist fuckwad posers" vs. "You Metroidvania lovers are what's wrong with videogames.") This seriously went on for pages and pages as if there were anything more to say about it than that.

you know, I honestly didn't think there was any hostility but maybe I was just overlooking stuff like this. I always got pissed with the "so and so is an elitist ass hole for having this opinion which is so contrary to my own and is clearly just having it for show" (like there was ever any way of knowing that) but just ignored it. I mean that kind of crap didn't take that much time to read past. Alas, I guess its still a valid critique.

No, there was hostility. For example, I once attempted to understand the reasons for the fundamental "lovemetroidvania / hate metroidvania" split. Like, to get to the detailed pieces that make that up, you know? Diplocephalus was my target. His reasoning struck me as so asinine and I became so frustrated that, yes, eventually I basically told him he was the antichrist in disguise, sent to earth to support the ruination of Castlevania.

So, yeah, this stuff happens.

Oh yeah, Diplocephalus was alright but I think he was a direct blood relative of IGA and felt compelled to defend him, and reply to every post in every single thread where anything negative was said about an IGA game until there was no way to sift through it all to find real discussion. I'd like to say I totally ignored him but I think a few times I probably offerred some snide remarks.

He runs a castlevania shrine, I think!

I like him and hope he comes back should the forums ever congeal back at an appropriate place some time.

This is the second time this has happened to me! It's kind of frustrating, but hey! I know last time it happened, I wandered around the internet and found insert credit (and then the gamer's quarter!) and all you lovely people instead. And from the looks of it, I'm not the only one.

Okay, 108, that all makes sense, and now I don't have to radically change my opinion of you anymore! I still like you now. ;_;

You know, all of those little ideas, and things, and slightly different propositions along the way would have been so much better than what happened. I mean, the decision that ended up being made was just ... god!

I mean making a clean break from the site, like that, "you're so beautiful, you need to find someone better!" quote would have probably worked out okay... instead it was more like "get out of my house bitch!".

I mean, it could have even been something simple and transitionary, like oh, changing the banner to "insert coins", and moving it offsite to someone who volunteered and the community agreed upon, and stuff like that. Then you could have kept it up for a while at forums.insertcredit.com, but with a notice that it was being moved to www.insertcoins.com or something, and then later changing it to a link to "insert coins -- bastard child of insert credit" and then adding new forums, etc. etc.

Dude, if need be it, I will resport to using oink.mpeg. But only in an absolute emergency, whatever that might be.

And the funny thing is, I actually found something that is WAY worse. But this isn't really the time or place for such a thing.

Thanks. And here's the funny thing....

Okay, this is going maybe sound... maybe weird, or even "creepy" as someone once described a similar practice on another message board, but over time, I've been collecting images posted, including various people's avatars that I thought was awesome. I would drop them off in a folder, and I guess that folder is now forever closed.... but its a great way to look back at what was the IC forums. Would... any one be interested in it? There's some fun stuff in it.

HSB, if we do end up spinning the forums off to a different site, the only name we could ever consider using is One Coin, or Project One Coin. God, I'm getting a boner just thinking about it.

Anyway. Brandon didn't like the forums. He didn't like the attitudes. He didn't like the in-jokes. He basically wanted the forums to serve the website. And the website was, let's face it, doing nothing. He's been planning to let the website actually do something from now on, and the way things stand, when someone says "insertcredit", people think "insertcredit forums" (or they think "tim rogers" and shake their fists). I guess Brandon wanted balance?

He was never too clear to me about what he wanted. One day about a month ago, he emailed me and said that he really liked icyclam's website. He remembered icyclam's warnings on the forums, about how we could have been making money with insertcredit.com, seeing as blogs like kotaku and joystiq make money. I remember chatting with Brandon the day icyclam was saying that. Brandon's attitude was, "Man, you know, he's kind of right."

At Tokyo Game Show time, me and Brandon discussed the idea of getting rid of the forums completely, after giving all users warning far in advance. We would then auction off the forum archive to a poster who, I don't know, won a contest or something, and send him all the files so he could relocate it to a dedicated server, with a new name. insertcredit.com would then take on a blog-based format, wherein readers would post comments on news stories, and we would simply delete, with extreme prejudice, any comments that approached the lowest of kotaku's standards (the "LOL" comments) or, god forbid, a 1up.com user review. The usual "insertcredit-style" long posts and thoughtful arguments would be welcome and encouraged. It would be grand.

Maybe he could have done all the changes he wanted to do in the website first, and then changed the forums! Sounds like a better idea to me!

And, unfortunately, I don't think there would be long posts in a comment-da-blogz kind of thing, even if that thing is insert credit. First, as I already said here, IC site is news and some reviews/articles. Not enough content to discuss. Also, there's the hierarchy issue between the staff and the readers, which kind of disencourage people from disagreeing. On forums, everyone is at the same level.

Well, I'm sure people know that.

I still think Tim is a cool dude, but I dislike aderack now that I've seen some posts about this issue on the LPN forums. A guy who is the top poster of some forums saying that those same forums suck hard loses a lot of credit, no matter how many great things he can say about the Phantasy Star series.

No need to resort to that level of violence, dogg. We cool, right?

She's not a porn star. She's a gravure idol. There's a fucking huge difference. In that she doesn't get naked and she's never shot with any men on camera.

So see, it's you who hates me to say such prodding and demeaning things ;_;

About the icy stuff...well, I don't know what you're talking about, to be honest. Icy came and was civil for a while, then he became a psychopath.

Yeah, I was talking about harboring this small belief that his plan might have been to not be a psychopath, and to just be a normal guy and post normal things, meanwhile enraging people at his name alone. Because if they'd got mad and fled just because of icyclam's name, even if his attitude was calm (ie, the way it is on his own forum), that would have just proven that those people were assholes.

That didn't happen, though.

Either way, what happened happened. I'm not taking sides. I feel empathy all around.

No. It wasn't your threads. Or, well, if it was your thread, it wasn't your posts. Let's just leave it at that!

Your being unmodded, and your agreeing to be unmodded, was a very noble decision.
