Bonus tracklist released today. One of the tracks? Trogdor. TROGDOR.
Instant Purchase. Flawless Victory.
Some friends are going to purchase this and we want to jam together. Anyone else excited for the sequel to the best game to play while drunk?

I'm pretty fucking pissed that it's $50 for the game standalone. _________________ Wii #: 8749 9109 9732 3653

whoa, that is pretty awesome. I know some people who are going to go nuts over this news.
I finally beat Cowboys from Hell on expert difficulty in the original, but I can't seem to get further than 98% in Bark at the Moon. There isn't enough star power in the world to carry me through that last solo |

Trogdor? I am pleased. There better be some Final Countdown in there though.
I'm really curious as to how Institutionalized, a spoken word hardcore punk song, made it on there. It's a great song and all (I can see it being the most difficult song in the game actually), but it's going to be weird.
Also, I really wanted to see some Dead Kennedys or Joy Division on there, since there's going to be bass parts now. The 360 version's going to have downloadable songs though... |

Yeah, Joy Division songs might kill my strummin' hand. I'm going to get the PS2 version just because I don't want to wait, but I may trade up for the 360 version when it finally arrives. Pity it's coming so late! |

Oh man. This gets better and better.
It turns out that I am hosting a GUITAR HERO TWOURNAMENT for my radio station job. The station manager had mentioned the possibility of getting together the day before the event to unlock all the songs... I am definitely going to do this now. Championship round: Trogdor! |

This makes me really happy that I held out on getting the first one. I am nervous about microtransactions though. I wouldn't mind being able to play GH1+2 from the 360 without having to swap discs, but if the songs total out to more than the game would used on the PS2 you can bet I'll be pissed and very selective of what I buy.
Anyways, yeah, uh... Guitar Hero! _________________ The average man has a secret desire to be a swaggering, drunken, fighting, raping swashbuckler.

Thank God for that. If I still had a 360 it would take a lot less abuse than my PS2 did with Guitar Hero 1 and my jumping around antics (I have to hold the disc lid closed for it to read anything now). |

I think that's kind of the point!
I'm pretty sure Guitar Hero gave me an RSI. I can't go more than a song or two now without my right arm feeling like a lead weight. It's sad! |

yeah, I think I am capable of doing it, I was just pushing myself way too hard since I attempted it again right after finishing the Pantera song. That was last weekend and my strumming arm is still a bit raw/twitchy. |

hi bcoma.
no way! I played with anamanaguchi guitarist Pete and, even though I lost, I put on a hell of a show in the process. Playing with my teeth/crotch/face and making him lose points with said actions.

I just don't like people who hate the game because its part of the macho-fication of gaming. Because... that's really a sad notion to take seriously. |

What, don't you agree that all gamers should be introverted cowards who like RPGs because in real life, you can't talk to girls just by pressing "A" and that scares the sweaters off them?

anyway, uh, how is playing with a toy guitar macho? or machismo like human happiness, in that it is relative to the population around you? [insert nerd hierarchy gif here] _________________

Actually, I'd think that Guitar Hero is less macho than people think. I mean, sure, the game makes you feel like a TOTAL BADASS, but in the end you're playing with a Fisher-Price-esque toy guitar! You can't get chicks with that! |

My wife and I threw a party a few months ago in which a middle-aged woman from the theatre Angela volunteers at decided she needed a PS2 and Guitar Hero.
How macho is that? |

And then big guitars (well, I guess not techincally a guitar) - Stand-Up-Bass Hero!
For some reason I feel like playing Beatmania right now. I haven't played that game in ages. |

i think i could probably convince someone to smooch with me by playing guitar hero. i am pretty bad ass when i play guitar hero (the plastic guitar also makes my performance both cute and committed).[1]
someone i've made out with once told me that all that i needed was a guitar.

So I've spent all day playing this, um, in the future. I have a time machine, did I mention?
It's really good. Better than the first, I'd say. Lots of neat little touches added on (encores!). Also some rather long songs. None of these are edited for time. I approve.
Star power seems to run out somewhat faster. Hammer-ons and pull-offs actually seem a lot easier to do now, so they're actually useful.
Dracko wrote: | I heard there will be Buckethead tunes as well? |
A particularly nice Buckethead tune recorded specifically for the game! Which is pretty much how it'd have to be, 'cause really, who can cover Buckethead? Yeah, the bonus tracks in this one actually seem to be worth getting. A+++++ WOULD PLAY AGAIN and will as soon as I take a shower. |

The Buckethead song is really hard. It's a good thing they made hammer-ons and pull-offs so much more doable! |

I'm not going to be able to get it until this weekend (Thank God for pay day).
I didn't pre-order, so I hope I can get a copy. Then I can play it and wish they had put Holiday in Cambodia (preferably the darker, Give Me Convenience or Give Me Death version) in there. |

Yes, it comes out today (Tuesday) for the PS2. There's a one week wait on the 360 version, though.
Our Guitar Hero II event is this Thursday! I'm so stoked. The events director is working to get "metal wigs" for the contestants. Photo results should be good. |

so my sister and i made the mistake of starting on easy mode. we did this because we wanted to hear all the songs and i couldn't finish normal mode in the original game. aside from cheap trick, the kinks and nirvana (though the kurt cobain sound-alike does not really sound like kurt cobain), the soundtrack was a procession of lame songs. where were they hiding the good songs?
playing normal mode we realized: in the encores, which aren't available in easy mode. there is officially no reason to play this game in easy mode.
and we unlocked trogdor, which is based on the y-o-u version, and pretty nifty. we did spinal tap and our drummer imploded. _________________

I finished hard mode this morning, and it wasn't so bad, considering what I've heard about the higher difficulty (especially now that the input is more forgiving).
So just now I spent about 15 tries and finally got to the end of Misirlou on expert. Too bad I performed that feat in quick play mode.
also: I am way psyched about selectable co-op difficulty. I can finally play with my family since they tend to stay toward medium and anything below hard bores me to tears |

i unlocked sweet child 'o mine tonight and all was made well.
the ending was nice. i can't even remember what the last song in the original is.
the characters are a lot less ugly. a create-a-guitar-hero mode would have been ideal though. but i'm just a sucker for avatar capital. i spend hours with those things.
the multiplayer is much better this time. cooperative mode is mighty swell. _________________

I tried it for the first time at best buy and pretty much stunk up the joint, just muddling through the easiest levels of GH2.
How much harder is 2 than 1, at least on the easy/moderate levels? |

the difficulty on the beginning songs for the beginning levels is more or less the same, I'd wager. The talk about increased difficulty mostly has to do with the later songs on expert (the several minute long solo of Freebird, all of Misirlou, etc). I'm honestly afraid to try some of these songs on expert until I cut my teeth on hard for a while longer, and I play on almost nothing but expert in the orginal now (except for the last two songs). |

Another thing that sets GH 2 above the first is, partially the advance solo's, but mainly it's the easier means of hammering down and pulling off, making those advance songs a bit less.
I played it at a friend's house since I'm straped for cash to buy the second, and i second Player 2's remorse. in this respect, i really like the sequel, for namely fixing the buggy and too strict hammer downs and pull off's, which is a very savvy ploy that Harmonix used to get people into the sequel. Instead of making a series that'll be notorious for it's heavy learning curve on advances tactics, it nips the issue with the first to more easily rope in new comers, and give the frustrated players of the first a good reason to drop fifty more bones. Plus it's got Trogdor and a great track from a current day Adult Swim cartoon show, pulling in more of the 18 to 30 male demographic that are fans to both game and show already.
Well played. |

It's in the third tutorial lesson. If you see notes that have a white rim at their top instead of a black one (usually in streams of 16ths), you can play the first note normally and just press the buttons for the rest of the incoming white-rimmed ones without strumming at all. |

And there's something else, too.
Great.
Eh. maybe I'm reading too hard into it, or venting my distaste for not being able to own GH2 at the moment. I did have fun when i visted my friend's house, so that's what matters really. And not any point whoring.
Nice to have something to brag about though - and post on youtube.com.
Edit: Oh. The pull-off feature that JasonMoses talked about is in the first game, not just that second. If I'm going to ramble, I should at least stay on point, right?

So yes, after buying Guitar Hero II, I've honestly found this new appreciation for music. I also find myself wishing this song or that song was available to play in the game.
What songs would you like to see as future downloads (Xbox 360?) or on expansion discs? I can see a gleaming future wherein bands wanting to spread their influence would opt in for a GH version of their hit single.
Now for some of my picks:
"Beezelboss (The Final Showdown)" by Tenacious D (it has limitless versus potential)
"Just Like Heaven" by The Cure
"Love Will Tear Us Apart" by Joy Division
fucking "Purple Rain" by Prince
"Ratamahatta" by Sepultura
"Land of Sunshine" by Faith No More
"Radio/Video" by System of a Down (actually, fuck it; anything by System of a Down)
"Barroom Hero" by the Dropkick Murphys
"She Sells Sanctuary" by The Cult (yeah, fuck you)
"We're Not Gonna Take it" by Twisted Sister (fuck yeah!)
I could be here all day.

Not that I think a lot of people here care, but Best Buy had the original w/ guitar for 50% of, so I let that make the 1 vs 2 decision for me... |
