I should get a tripod. I'd love to get more night shots and try out some of that high dynamic range trickery, but my hands are generally too shaky to hold a camera straight most of the time. |

wonderful. mysterious machinery in the mist is so awesome... I wish I had taken some pictures of the power station in the snow, but I couldn't get it without flash. And flash pictures that are both in the dark and taken while snowing suck. |

Hm, those pictures really reflect my understanding of the North American landscape. Maybe it's just my experience of it, but I find gray rectangles to be characteristic. _________________ | Little bird fighting against a bat sect game | |

the inside of this book is full of comic sans. |

but that shit i posted is from a real children's book. scary.

i hate the new cover for this book. the original showed heather with her mothers, whereas in this edition they're relegated to the back cover. _________________

heather also has a dog that dances incredibly well. she is thrice blessed.

the amazon reviews for liberals under my bed are probably far more entertaining than the book itself.
apparently the children's book market is going through some interesting times.

So was the stuff I posted!
Every time I see that Liberality for All comic my blood pressure goes a bit higher. And actually, that's pretty much the response for all of the political stuff in this thread. |

squirrel trivia: the little bastards are actually quite violent towards each other. and birds. and bugs. and the occasional child.
they are truly god's creatures.
agit-prop is almost always juvenille. you just notice it more when you disagree with the props being agitated. that said, i can't quite bring myself to buy the liberality thing.
and while yes, it is just a plant, i don't really know if that's appropriate for children.
edit: i was not buying the whole squirrel thing above being real until i saw the links to the actual book's site. it seems too much like some sort of badly-drawn plant, you know? a hoax. no one could be that paternalistic. manichean farce made flesh. _________________

even if liberality for all's creator is playing a joke (he probably is), chances are nobody will take it as such. Sean Hannity approves of it, and anyone that listens to him will take the book's message at face value.
My first attempt at sewing a panorama together (real picture is much higher-res): |

Mind explaining? As far as I understand what wikipedia tells me this is about a dual perception of good and evil.
Also, Mosquito Hill, near my hometown: Hortonville, WI. It's perhaps the least impressive of all of the nature centers/trails/preserves in the area, but it's still good for a nice, long walk. |

one of the key components of manicheanism (which gets misused by a lot of secular literary critics trying to, for example, analyze the internal religious strife of "wise blood" by flannery o'connor [no relation]) is that not only is the world a black and white moral field, but all actions taken by one side are backed by the force of that side. in other words, not only am i doing god's work, but my enemies are slaves to the devil. every action is a part of this grand battle between good and evil, which makes for some shallow characterizations, to say the least.
now, i speak of manicheanism as a rhetorical analysis, and it's largely not applicable to most modern religious folk, even really crazy ones. it's unlikely that an imam who sees the hand of satan behind the actions of america, india, china and the various wickednesses of the world afflicting his community would see the entire world as completely fallen and only the soul as a small light in a sea of wickedness. nor could they separate the notion of the person who sins from said influences. too much reliance on the body politic, ya know?
anyway:
Quote: | Sean Hannity approves of it, and anyone that listens to him will take the book's message at face value. |
you're assuming that people who listen to him are crass, stupid, humorless and incapable of textual analysis because they move with the hand of satan.

Oh. You're right. I'm aware of the fallacy involved in that. I meant "listen" in a sort of "taking orders" sense, rather than "hear on the radio" sense. However, I think that the majority of people that would take Hannity's word as the word of truth most likely fit one of several types, and you described one of them. And I see far too many people who fit that type.
I think "Manichean tendencies" become a self-fulfilling prophecy in the midwest.
unrelated: hah, is this still a thread about photos?
The surrounding marshland (where I was standing when I took the photo) is full of mosquitos during the summer. The hill itself, not so much.

Here's a pciture of me after my haircut. Before the haircut, it was down past my jawline, and growing out of control.
A dynamic lighting pose included with mafioso style shades. Too bad I didn't take it in some beaten down alley in night or something. _________________

Persona -Sama, that's one of the greatest compliments I have ever recieved. I feel honored. I must tell you that I am a male however. But I was in a Thrash Metal band! However, no one was into any sort of Japanese Music except myself, so when I pitched the idea and played some old school Dir En Grey, it didn't go so well.
None the less, we can all dream. _________________

I suggest wearing lip gloss and wearing make up that accentuates your cheek bones if you ever consider a career in the visual kei.
Also, it might help if you looked good in a dress. And were a 300 year old vampire or something. _________________

Well the 300 year old vampire thing is hard to pull off. A dress might be easier! Didn't Gackt state that he was a 500 year old vampire in his Malice Mizer days? Or am I getting confused. Either way, he still wants people to believe he's over 500 years old. Looks pretty good for that age. Must be all the Wu Xia training for Bujingai that helped him stay fit for 500. _________________

Heheheh. That's a new one but I see what you mean,
I also look like:
* A Campbell's Soup Kid
* The canibal from "Con Air"
* Singer of "Barenaked Ladies"
but most of all...

Unfortunately no-one knows his name (Major Toht, I just checked IMDB) and his most menacing stand alone line is "We are -- hehheh -- not thirsty..."
"You Americans, you're all the same. Always overdressing for the wrong occasions." ain't too bad though |
