yeah, tis that time of the week where i point out an escapist article.

this is interesting. it sort of reminds me of all the heady nonsense from doug rushkoff and gen and all the other process/future primitive/the internet will immanentize the eschaton/cyber-*.* about how the internet would change everything. in a very small way, stuff like this is a result of some of that thinking, however minor.

the virtual online wedding thing is far more remarkable to me than people meeting online and getting married at some point down the line.

edit: it goes without saying that there's a bit of the ye olden distrust of the body and its urges in the idea that you know someone better through their online interactions than you do meeting them in person; this makes sense, however, in the context of social interaction minus physical contact.

Well, I'll buy into the fact that using the internet as your means of social interaction feels the quota of needing some sort of contact with someone. I never knew how deep I was into the furry shtick until I "researched" over the interwebs.

After reading the article, I guess this “love-thingahmehjoggin’” can be found in whatever form of communication that you’re comfortable with. I'm mean, I could easily meet, and fall for, a guy that didn't wasn't on the same anthro-vibe as me; I'm not picky. But, if I were to meet a fellow that had the same admiration for it, then it might as well be through a party, or some function or congregation that was being thrown for the sake of furrydom. Either of these cases wouldn’t make the actually communication between us that less of an impact, and I think that's what the article is trying to hit at.

Well, just so you know, this type of thing scares the hell out of my wife. She knows about these "stories" even though they are rare. So when she sees me on Animal Crossing, standing on the beach fishing with a girl... she gets this weird feeling in her gut. She tells me that she does not feel comfortable and that I need to not do this regularly. So, I mean there is some fear there because I spend so much time online.

the internet is, more or less, genre-based interaction.

shapes: just tell the wife that 1) this "girl" could be anyone or anything and 2) animal crossing never got anyone laid.

however, if anyone did get laid because of animal crossing, they should write about it for tgq.

Certainly there are romantic relationships that don't end in marriage?

I'd like to know about other, non-romantic online relationships too, because...

This is true. There's no hard rules about social interaction, even if you're only dealing with one channel of information.

don't you actually play as a human in the animal crossing games? Just a tiny, highly deformed one.

there are certain rules, largely unwritten, about posting at this forum, for example. they're fairly easy to learn, if somewhat murky to people who won't take the time to read back into the archives or to lurk for a long period of time. a troll, for example, plays very much by the rules of a given community, but does so to violate them, not integrate into the social grouping.
