So this is crazy: http://www.pandora.com/
I think I am going to mess with this more at work. I mean, it is really cool. _________________ “The average man has a secret desire to be a swaggering, drunken, fighting, raping swashbuckler.”

hehe. So I get a specific Current 93 song (Whilst the Night Rejoices Sound and Still) because it "features a prominent rhythm piano part, acoustic sonority, minor key tonality, a prominent rhythm piano and many other similarities identified in the music genome project."
It's interesting, and totally bizarre to me, to have qualities and similarities defined and visible by an algorithm like that.
Though I must say, it segues from the above to Richard Swift, who's just all straight singer/songwriter ballad. I give him the thumbs down. Swift stops and it goes on to... another Current 93 song. The most obvious links here in terms of membership and collaboration are Coil and Nurse With Wound; we'll see if it hits on those or plays the algorithms straight. |

Current 93 is great stuff. I use to use it as background music for Call of Cthulhu games (tabletop). _________________ “The average man has a secret desire to be a swaggering, drunken, fighting, raping swashbuckler.”

Uh oh. So far it's gone through solo stuff by Chris Martin (Coldplay) and J. Mascis. Thumbs down! Thumbs down! And back to Current 93 again. This may take some coaxing. |

The interface is fantastic, ridiculous music licensing restrictions aside.
Putting in Boards of Canada gets good results surprisingly quickly, given their tendency to use the same five warm fuzzy synths over and over again.
Putting in the books, however, switches me from folk to drone to a sort of old-timey breakbeat thing. I'm surprised Tunng hasn't come up yet
Arrgh it's limiting the number of songs I can skip per hour. |

If you rate one thumbs down, it skips to the next track. Does it restrict that too?
I gave up after half an hour. I probably spend too much time reading about music for that to be useful to me, but if I was listening to Chris Martin, I can see how it might be neat. |
