Well I left for a quite a while.

Then I read issue 2.

Looks like I'm back, it's too late to go to sleep or play Shenmue.

Bah.

Heya! I'm Faithless. I hope to be able to add something valuable to the conversation. I just started posting at IC, so thought it was time to do the same here.

My name is Zach. I live in the bountiful land of "the plenty" - Tempe, Arizona. I am currently working on my English/lit degree, and someday when I have time to actually read books and watch movies for pleasure and personal growth rather than taking Spanish tests, I would like to teach Film and Lit classes. I came for the videogames, I stayed for the Toups.

I'm Zack. I'm an IC transplant, but I'm pretty new there too ("Mr. Stegosaurus"). I've been reading TGQ since issue zero, but I was only convinced to register in order to warn dhex against buy Crystalis GBC.

I'm 25. I was a linguistics major. I am a library assitant, and yesterday at work I had the strange and unexpected experience of processing a book which was previously owned by one Hitler, Adolf, and donated by the German Consulate. I don't know what that is. I do know I got a pretty bad case of secondhand Nazi cooties, and that was before I Google translated the book's title, Neuadel aus Blut und Boden.

New aristocracy from blood and soil.

yeah.

It's already been shipped back to the library it came from! Probably. It might still be there on Monday.

But even if it's gone, I can check it out myself. The book itself isn't marked with Hitler's name, although it is marked by a German Consulate sticker stamp thing. There were some faint pencil marks between the lines, but I couldn't read them. Still, my guess is that the Consulate didn't go doodling in the book...

What's even weirder is that the patron who requested it was a no show. I mean, that happens all the time, but this book touched evil! He checks it out and doesn't show? Way to go, buddy. You just ding dong ditched Hitler. You fucking rock.

Well I posted at FF Alpha starting in early 2000 .. . and I still post at FF Aura! You should come back Wink. Anyways, nice to see you posting here. It should be fun! And I didn't get kicked out of school. I just graduated from College this last December Razz. I'm over in Japan teaching English in Shizuoka prefecture near the city of Hamamatsu.

And while I'm on the subject, might as well introduce myself to everybody else. I went to Indiana University with Wes, one of the admins here, and I worked with him at Electronics Boutique for about a year/ year and a half? This is of course before EB went down the craphole . . . I was a huge RPG fan back then, but slowly my tastes have evolved, and I MIGHT be able to match Wes in gaming skills now. I was at one time known as "The Button Masher" at his house, but no more!

Wes, I'm coming to visit to clear my name!!! Want me to bring anything from Japan? Wink

Hello,

some of you might remember me from the IC forums.
But after the crash i didn't signed uop again because I dislike konami games ,no really I do. I personally don't understand why people like them so much .
I also dislike reading Gamer's quarter because it was in pdf but since I recieved my paper copy last week .I hope the new issues will also be avail. In print and I hope ShaperMC has already been able to go home after Katrina.

About me I'm a 22 year old university student who studied Japanese for two years failed the course (did the first year twice).Know I follow communication siences and two hours of korean each week. If I pass I'll continue studying Japanese I'm just a bit sick of it right know.

Gamewise I'm an scorewhore I LIKE STG the best.Right know I'm into Chaos Field Expanded.
My favorite alltime games
Tempest 2000
Space Harrier
RSII:Rogue Leader
Mr Driller series
All the 2D STG's mostly manics.I'm not fond of things like Gradius,R-type and Xevious

I'm a real believer of what Myamoto says : simple games are the best games.
My favorite system this gen has to be the NGC.It's the first Nintendo console I ever bought and I must say I'm very fond of it's cute design and the many lovely games I own for it (none made by nintendo except Jungle Beat).
Music wise I'm an eighties guy new wave and new beat.I also like modern house and techno and the more homegrown stuff like Anthony and the Johnsons ,Patrick Wolf and Joanna Newsom.I dislike R&B and Metal and stuff like that...
My favorite colour is Fluo orange.

A non to flattering photo of me

Hello, I'm Kinuko. I probably wouldn't have stumbled on TGQ had it not been for Persona, but now that I'm here, I'm finding that I enjoy it a lot. I'm an artist of sorts, I guess; I'm currently studying character animation but would like to get a job in video games. Persona and I did the comic for issue #4, and I hope to find myself doing some artwork for you guys in the future. Wheee.

My name is Sara and I am Shapers wife. I'm the nagging one that makes him get off line. (at least, that's what he says) I love video games but I never really got into the online stuff. I'm pretty well a gaming loner and I don't play too well with others. I think the Gamer's Quarter rocks and the staff is top notch. I know shaper is a pain sometimes (just kidding) but he has a great crew and couldn't do it with out you. I hope everyone reads issue 4 and enjoys it as much as I am. Happy Holiday's and Congrats on issue 4.

Hey all,

I'm Stephan (pronounced STEF-in). I'm a 33 yr old PhD student in Musicology. I focus on Popular music and 20th Cent art music. I'm currently on a three week research trip in Germany looking into Weimar Cabaret. My department has a bunch of folks who are gamers like me and we are considering collecting our talents and writing a collection of academic articles on video games...in order to facilitate this project we are going to have a Silent Hill 1-4 marathon in the month of January. Woot!

I've been reading Gamer's Quarter since Issue 1. Excellent mag. I think I heard about it from Boing Boing. I don't tend to post on the message boards but maybe I should.

I play the banjo.

I have recently discovered World of Warcraft. I like it a bunch, but it doesn't help me get through all those Xbox games I've got waiting for me on my shelf.

I don't speak Japanese, but I do speak German.

Besides all the academic stuff, I have written a few articles for the online RPG (table-top) magazine Pyramid...and I still play RPGs (table-top).

Dangit, I'm always late to the party - and not the fashionable sort of late, either. My name's Chris St.Louis. I am not from St.Louis, but from a miserable little tourist town in western Oregon. I am majoring in English with an emphasis on the written word, and have been in college for a year longer than I should be, and will continue to rot within the confines of academia for another one to two years, depending if I get any love in the study abroad department. I'm on my third year of learning Japanese, and as a hobby (when inspiration strikes me) I practice slowly translating demos of Japanese PC games.

I found TGQ... um... a while ago, back when Issue 2 was new, I think. I used to frequent daily the ASSEMbler Forums, dedicated originally to the rare and obscure, but now drowning in an unrestricted influx of GameFAQS/IGN board types. Szczepaniak is a double agent there, and I almost want to say he made some announcement about TGQ. Either that or I just read about it on IC. So anyways, I downloaded Issue 2, read through it for a while, then deleted it because my ADD kicked in and I got tired of staring at the monitor. When Issue #3 came out, I ordered the physical copy on a whim, and gave a second chance to the PDFs. I then realized that I really, really enjoyed the articles and the philosophy in general behind TGQ as a magazine/journal/whatever it is technically called. I then registered for the forums and try to post only when I won't seem like a total idiot.

I love my DS. I do not like the Gamecube's D-pad.

Oh man, you are in for a treat. My wife was just telling me on the train earlier tonight how she wants to play The Room (sh4) over again. I recently found someone to give me a copy of Silent Hill PC (which is a fan port to the PC) and hope to play through SH1 again (3rd time). I have yet to play either SH3 or 4, but I have watched both of them through as my wife played through them. So I guess that says that it is also a good spectator game.

UCLA. And is our Musicology Department full of a bunch of geeks!

I have an Xbox only, so I've not played SH1 or SH3. I've finished SH2 and I've started but not finished SH4.

My pals and I argue over and over about the nature of Maria. Really, as the nuns say, how do you solve a problem like Maria?

Hello.

My name is PurpleChair and I spend more time playing videogames than is strictly neccessary. I'm currently in the final year of an Economics degree. I'd like to get a job in writing/designing games, but it goes without saying that I'll probably end up working as a suit in the city. My favourite game is Smash TV. My special power is being able to read people's minds.

I have been trapped in a destructive relationship with Peter Molyneux for around 11 years.

It isn't right that I just now run across a site like this, filled with people who care not just about games but the story and what games have meant to them. I'm glad it wasn't a day longer.

I ran across this...well, I can't remember, but I grabbed Issue #4 as soon as I could, tore through it, then tore through it again. These are writers who "get it". And now a forum filled with so much discussion that I'm going to have to play catch up while at work.

I cut my teeth on the 2600 as a kid, playing everything you can imagine, and moved up through all the logical ranks - NES, C64, SNES, PC, N64, GC, PS2... My favorite system had to have been the C64, just because of the time I invested in games like Ultima IV, which profoundly changed how I thought about games and gaming. Lord British owned me for many many years, until the dark of EA descended on them.

Anyway, thanks for this site. I can't wait to jump in and share ideas and stories.

Hey dhex, we've got another Ultima IV fan here!

Welcome to the site man, glad you liked Issue 4!

You should definitely take a look at issue 2 then, for it is our finest issue. And I'm not just saying that because my best work is contained therein.

And judging from your location, it seems that you have to get yourself to the reading thread pronto.

Just came from there. As a new poster, I didn't think it polite to start tossing out itemized list of my bookshelf, although the OCD part of me brain felt awfully compelled.

Thanks for the welcome everyone - this forum is addicting.
