Indeed he does!
Right about after Twoson you can buy the "Hard Hat" from the Drug Stores. When I was at Happy Happy Village, I had equipped a Hard Hat, a Copper Bracelet, and Great Charm, and some sort of bat.

I mean, the sprite still stays the same. I just thought it would be nice to draw it out.

Also, in the last little box, Ness is equipping the "Holmes hat." I kind of assumed they were talking about Sherlock Holmes as opposed to... whatever it is a Holmes could be.[/u]

I'm planning on doing a lot more gaming fan art, since it pads my portfolio and will make good, cheap prints at conventions.

Here's an oldy from Silent Hill 3 (please pardon the rough edges).

My wife wearing an NES-themed skirt (no, she doesn't actually have one):

Sorry, all I have right now are these old images. I will be contributing a lot more, especially after beating Shadow of the Colossus.

Persona, we still need to jam or something.

A NES controller textile would be nice. Someone did something similar in my printmaking class but he just lined them all up like bricks which wasn't nearly as interesting. Although it does seem a little 80s bedspread'ish.

Hey Lestrade, just curious, but what sort of software/tools do you use for your work? I do all my art the old fashioned way, but I'm considering trying out a tablet and software combination. You do some great work (some of which I'm assuming is digital) and I was hoping to get your opinion. Or anybody else's who's willing to comment.

I see most vector art is done in either flash or illustrator. Some people do it in photoshop, too. most "painting" style stuff is done with either photoshop or Painter.

That's a very quick, generalized, probably inaccurate guide. For all of these programs, there's almost always a cheap/free alternative.

edit: photoshop and painter work great with a tablet. I prefer a mouse for vector and pixel art (not implying rasterized art in general), and a tablet for everything else. And if you're obsessing about trying to imitate real materials with a tablet, get a large intuos tablet with tilt sensitivity and Painter. Most everybody else does pretty well with a medium-size graphire tablet. I have the smallest graphire model, and it suits my purposes pretty well.

Cool! Thanks for the info. I think I'm not quite hardcore enough to drop $400 or so on a tablet, so I'll probably go with the smallest (or midsize) Graphire. As it is, Painter IX is like $400 itself. Ugh.

You can always yarrr painter if you want it hard enough. As it is, my tablet (bought over the website when the graphire 3 first came out) came with Painter Classic, which was dandy enough to work for me.

OR! Wacom offers an almost 50% off price break on Painter IX if you buy a tablet.

We should probably break this out into a topic over in the general board, since we're veering pretty far off topic-- that is if we're going to continue the discussion...

EDIT: Done!

B Coma: that's great. Sonic is walking a line of peril!

Here's my contribution to the thread:

oekaki + tablets = fun doodles without the gravity and feeling of "commitment" that comes with opening a program like painter or photoshop.

Sorry, I didn't even see this post! Two months later, I say:

I am very much old-fashioned when it comes to art, and I like to be on my computer as little as possible. Thus, all my pencils and inks are by hand, and when I have to apply colour, I simply do it in Photoshop. I'm looking to get away from doing colours in almost all cases, and get back to pure ink art for the next little while.

I use a Wacom tablet for colouring and touching-up, but that's the only specialty tool I use.

uh, do you that stuff much/anymore? I just did a search on desfunk's and my comment on your last one was something like "hey, you drew something!" I've moved over to persona's and ptoing's boards, though the latter is nearly dead.

Oh, and that reminds me.

That second one is like an all time favourite.

I don't really post at Desfunk's anymore, it was sort of unpopulated last time I did.

So I did a painting. You can click through to see the large size if you care to.

I'm sortof mystified at the apparent lack of lighting in the photo-- it looked much better on my home computer. Maybe it's my shit monitor here at work.

EDIT: Not sure why these have stopped working. I'll have to find and alternate place to host them.

Yet another painting I've done. It's titled "Stage 3", and I'm guessing I don't need to explain that like I had to with my wife.

Sorry the photo quality is kindof crappy--part of that is because the colors are a little dark to begin with.

So recently, I've been obsessing over NiGHTS. I think it's because Persona gave me the full soundtrack. I used to draw him all the time when I was 12 or so, but haven't drawn him since... until now.

I could not think of a background for the life of me, so it looks pretty plain.

I am tempted to buy myself another copy (and Christmas NiGHTS as well). I have both, but their conditions are questionable. eBay pretty much only has import copies of Christmas NiGHTS, which I could play if I could find my Pro Action Replay cartridge, but if I can't I'll have to buy another one of those too. Bah!

I know that it's totally worth going through all the trouble and money, but I don't know if I'll ever get around to it.

And thank you!

I need to draw some Sonic Team stuff too. Oh, did you know Nights is in Sonic Riders? We have to play that once films are done too.

One of the worst feelings is to find the box to something you're looking for, but not find anything or find the wrong disc inside. I just found the little slip package thing that Christmas NiGHTS came in, but nothing was in it (I found the NiGHTS demo disc and original box too, but again, with nothing in them). I hate my nine year old self for not taking care of things.

Hey, that's cool! If I manage to get a better photo of it I'll let you know. I'm still a little rusty on getting actual paintings into digital form.

I'm working on a huge (5 foot by 4 foot) Gradius-inspired item right now. I'll post some shots if and when it's done.
