Is this based on Shiren 2 or is it a new game that expands on Shiren 1? I guess it doesn't really matter since I've never played the first one, I'm just curious is all.

It is based on the ancient 1996 GBC game, Shiren the Wnaderer: Magic Castle in the Desert (or something like that). Just like the first Shiren DS, however, I think a lot of the mechanics have been rebalanced and updated besides merely having a SIGNIFICANT graphical facelift. Having absolutely no experience with the GBC game I'm not really sure what aspects are new to the DS version but I'm liking many of the changes I'm hearing about it to the canon that is Shiren DS 1. From what I've heard the main story is a bit easier (but then again this may be according to Shiren DS 1 veterans who already have the mechanics down to a fine science), but the post story stuff is still brutally nasty. |

Sega never promised it and, by gum, they've delivered on their word!
Since there is a tenuous link between Shiren 3 Wii and Shiren DS 2 (your Shiren 3 rescue point total can earn you prizes in Shiren 2, even unlock a dungeon if enough) so I always thought maybe they were holding off to announce their releases here as a package deal...still possible but painfully unlikely at this point. |
