A previously unreleased beta of Prince of Persia 2: The Shadow and The Flame for the Genesis.

Other neat ROMs can be found on this site.

I would be interested to see what you guys can do with the flash sensation line rider. I made Line Rider's life story where he appears to come out from between a ladies' legs and then down a slope into a tomb waiting at the bottom. I would like to see someone top that. Record your best courses and put them on Youtube!

Man, you die like every two minutes in this game!

It's not really that well built. That's kind of the point, though!

It's neat how people run away from you screaming.

Yeah, i've played this about six times now, getting a bit further each go. I kind of wish your blood meter drained about 30% slower so you weren't penalized as much for exploring areas that look like dead ends. Also I've run straight into bottomless pits by accident because I was jetting around too fast.

I'm nearly certain from the readme that this game has secret charms (charming secrets), but it doesn't seem like you've got much time to look! There's a almost definitely linear progression, though (so far), so I'll have to see where it takes me.

so it's as awesome as it looks is what you're saying?

die die galaxy has a fantastic title screen. also it's a really good game. use the spacebar to fire missiles. try to chain the evil space cats vulgus-style. pixel was purportedly involved in its development?

Anyone tried out the Rock 24 mod for Half-Life 2? It was recommended by Adam Foster and I'm downloading it now.

ciel gris is kinda nifty. there are a bunch of different enemy attack patterns and in each stage you fight a random selection of them: first two at a time, then three, then four, then etcetera! it's a little on the easy side. but everyone's butterflies! and the music is from rockman.

bastard world is a tough game but a fair game. the stages are short and restart immediately on death, making it pretty smooth to replay each stage to completion. actually, because of this the last stages feel kind of cheap in a did you get hit at the beginning of the stage? better die and restart because there's no reason to try and clear the stage with one less hit sort of way.

(it's nice when developers realize there's no point to giving the player a set number of lives when there's no score and the only motivating factor is progression through the game, too. i wish more independent developers would understand this.)

I've been linked to that site a few times, but I always get a "Forbidden" error. Is it blocking me for some reason? I can't read Japanese, so I don't know if the webpage is all "American IP lol no" or not.

kenta cho released a new game. it's similiar to gaplus.

it's not all that interesting, though. and i say this as someone who likes gallery shooters a whole bunch. i'm sure there'll be plenty of revisions in aba games's usual idiom, though.

What did you think of this, Dracko? I was pretty underwhelmed, especially after Minerva. Good on them for actually having voice acting though, mediocre though it is.

I feel the same way. The map design was particularly dubious, from the very start. And yeah, I didn't buy the voice acting either.

so yeah, playing anna is weird when your name is anna, and a little figure looks at the screen and says "anna, you're depressing." "anna, you're too smart for your own good." anna's fatalistic, which i sure am. it felt a little odd manipulate "anna's settings".

request feedback from other forum anna.

the game itself has a couple good puzzles and a couple contrived ones (their space station runs on towers of hanoi technology!). half the playtime is spent watching a cutscene. the flash manual, which adapts the more your play, is clever though.

I never name the main character of an RPG Raphael or Raffy or anything I've ever been called unless I a)really like the game b)have completed it before. I also make sure to complete the game on that playthrough as well. I also don't kill random people.

Jim Gee would be proud.

QUAD POST

that puzzle is clever in that you don't need to fully solve it to progress! this game has some other kinda interesting things going on, like the manual, but i'm rolling my eyes a lot, too.

either way, i'm a computer in space. who knew?

what i like about the voice system one is that you don't need to find a perfect solution. (the manual says the voice system "should not be manipulated except by expert technicians", which you certainly aren't.) you can find a partial solution and then use context clues and the process of elimination to figure out the rest. i thought this was great.

but yeah, towers of hanoi technology!

EDIT: that was a hot simu-post.

i discovered anna because of what linus bruckman sees when his eyes are closed.

what this is, and why it is so fascinating, is an adventure puzzle game that is split, literally, into two different stories/adventures. one takes up the top half of the screen, the other, the bottom. each has its own graphics, characters, dialogue, and puzzle. but they share the same mouse cursor, which moves identically on both halves of the screen.

but even better: each one has its own solution, different from the other's. and if you're paying attention, you can figure out how to manipulate both puzzles differently. i'm guessing the ultimate goal is to arrange the solution to both puzzles simultaneously.

it's best to focus on solving one at a time before solving both, i think. one's in english and one's in japanese, and solving one will unlock subtitles for the other (in the language of the one you solved). solving both - i don't know! i havn't done it yet, but i'm going to attempt it.

what you should keep in mind is that you will have to take notes. this is a data-heavy game. i have six pages of notes already, and i expect to have at least twice that amount by the time i reach the ideal solution. do not approach without notepad and pen, for really.

but do invest the time. it is a very intelligent project, and the results are worth seeing.

I used to name my NES and SNES era RPG heroes Cab after my initials. Over time, the traits of all those characters just sort of amalgamated into their own character. Cab or CAB isn't me, anymore. He's the guy with the turban and blue coat from Magic of Scheherazade.

I don't like killing random people. However, if I start to think that I'm Cab, and not me, I start to be a little more lenient towards killing. Cab's a good guy, but he doesn't want genuinely evil people walking around. If he doesn't think there's at least some hope for someone, then it's lightsaber time.

I disagreed with Cab's methods in Actraiser, however. He kind of took it too far in that game, at times.

depending on whether the game takes place in a contemporary or mythical setting, i name my avatars "enma daioh" or "fable" respectively.

though years ago i maintained the convention of naming my nethack characters "bivotar" or "juranda".

I usually just go with "anna" or "anja" when I'm forced to make a choice. If the game gives me a default name, I'll stick with that, becuase it's the character, not me!
I thought about doing a whole thread about naming choices. it's a topic that pops into my head every so often and for some reason i find it interesting the choices people make. (like who ever uses namingway in ff4 when you finally get to him?)

i have fifteen pages of notes.

I often use "Zartan".

Zartan was a doppleganging mercenary that worked for Cobra. (GI Joe universe)

So he could turn up anywhere, looking like anybody.

I don't actually try to play as that persona, though.

It's just a private joke.

I've been playing the shit out of Drain Storm. I'm treating it like a roguelike (which it almost is), and deleting my save upon death. It's hard!

i've always thought of drain storm as a kind of doom: the roguelike. this was long before someone actually made a "doom: the roguelike". drain storm has much more strategy than that game, though.

special agent is a freeware game based on an old apogee platformer i actually used to like, because of its clever level design and nice presentation. this version has the same solid level design and wacky social commentary-type mission objectives that do nothing for me. (apparently there's some type of gang war between click team and game maker?) i've taken to submitting sarcastic comments to the online high score boards.

riah is a charming little castlevania homage. the almost-msx* sprites have loads of character. and there's an editor too. it inexplicably crashes for me when the bgm loops, though.

* actually they remind me more than a bit of the neogeo pocket color.

lifted from tim's blog.

Wow, hey! Creator of Anna and What Linus Bruckman Sees When His Eyes Are Closed here. Sorry to be stalkerish, but I noticed a bunch of incoming links to my website from this thread and had to investigate.

Thanks for all the kind comments above. And dessgeega, congrats on making my Hall of Completion!! Very Happy

I just get really excited for any bit of feedback I can get, so I wanted to let you guys know that I appreciate it. And in defense of the Tower of Hanoi technology (I know, I know) I made Anna entirely in one week for a OROW (one room one week) competition. That includes conception and puzzle design, so, not a lot of time. So, I used a lights-out and a Towers of Hanoi puzzle instead! Hokey, I know, but I still liked it. I'm a sucker for logic puzzles (as should be obvious from the much more devious Linus Bruckman). Also, the ending was the last thing that I added in, I knew the story, but I didn't know that it was going to end up taking 15 minutes to tell!

I haven't fully decided yet, but I'm thinking that my next project will be a sequel to Anna since I had the story for three games in mind while making it (hints of the story to come can be found in the manual). So, hopefully the sequel won't have such hokey puzzles!

Anyways, thanks again! Glad you enjoyed them! And Anna, great name!
