Wants it.

But will I ever be able to play it outside of a Japanese arcade? Doubtful.

It's a real cool concept for a game: a fighter crossed with a shooter.

What genres do you think should cross over?

Maybe a racing game crossed with a fighter?
A puzzle game crossed with A-life?
RPG with NO SAVES?!

Yes? How is the contemporary online FPS not like a fighter?

Multiplayer roguealike brawler. Not MMO. Just with friends.

FPS plus survival horror. Actual survival horror where you actually might not survive, none of this Resident Evil nonsense.

And sure, add in some pvp to-the-death brawling. Why not?

The contemporary online shooter doesn't deal with any issues involving real fighters. For example, there is no High/Low game. While we're at it, there's no blocking. There are no grappling moves, either. Close Quarters combat is all about the pistol and the knife, and the best the contemporary online shooter has gotten to that is the pistol by itself. Why? Because they're so obsessed with being shooters. Expand a bit, Christ.

You know, engaging players in Resident Evil 4 style QTE combat (altho, much faster, and with longer strings) would be pretty amazing, actually.

Also: F.E.A.R. tries to meld FPS and RE. So did DOOM 3, but that game sucks.

fear sorta works it. i am so far impressed, technical issues aside.

doom 3 would have been cool as hell if there were no enemies.

I've always wanted an RPG with Bushido Blade fights.

And no magical healing/resurrection.

Wasn't Tobal a little like that? Not enough, though..

As for crossover concepts, I'd like to see roguelike difficulty (and replayability, and randomness) make its way into numerous genres. Nearly (but not quite) impossible odds make me happyhappy, and there are so many common fantasies people have about similarly difficult situations, grand challenges with vague but numerous solutions. Personally, I just want a game where I get to subvert, take over, or overthrow the government any way I see fit.

Edit: It occurred to me in the shower that Overgod is very relevant to this post.
